So over the last several days I got everything up to 3/7. Stopped using the Cossack and played with the Patton with a variety of weaponry. I can't get the Patton to hold it's own with any weapon mix. It is just too fragile I felt that way for quite a while. Then I thought I'd give a pinata Patton a try. It really teaches you how to be patient and wait for an opportunity. Sometimes I feel like the Boas give us false confidence because of the HP.

Now background upgrading some weapons to 8 looking towards the next step. Looking at getting a 4th taren and second orkan and leveling them. Then arming up 3 griffins. (Will need to practice with them) Then figure out gold/wsp for two other bots for low gold. 4th boa, 3 griffins... How many bots do you have?? Also, what was your Patton loadout? You mentioned "weapon mix", which leads me to think you had more than one weapon type on it. I find the patton strongest when it has 4 of the same weapon, playing a specific role - 4 Mags, 4 Pinatas (mini-PDB and -DB), 4 PINs (midrange) 4 Spirals (different levels of annoying, and also a pretty good anti-gep).

Current hanger is mostly level 3 boas. Griffins are for future heavy 6/8 or 6/9 hanger. I only have one at this point. Easy to get two more when I need them. I also have a level 2 light hanger and a level 5 light/medium set of bots (original hanger from before I learnt not to over level) that I am really not using at the moment. Weapon mix is all the same. I have tried the four options you listed above, the only one I have really liked is spirals - but it isn't high damage even with decent kill rates. pinatas I have been able to use but being patient in this game can lose it for you. It has been really useful a couple of times in dead city but that is about it.

To add to what Muhlakai said... In regards to your statement about being patient losing matches:
Since the reload time is so long on Pinatas, I found that they worked best for me, when using a Patton, shadowing other Blues and flanking whoever they engaged. That way the reload times can be mitigated somewhat since there are other Blues to both keep the Reds occupied, and to keep pouring damage on them(hopefully!).
Or, say you are heading to a beacon solo, or tactical choke point to act as an ambusher, and you encounter a Red along the way... keep cover between you until you are ready to fire, then unload on them (hopefully when they are coming around a corner) then get back into cover and keep going to where you need to go, keeping cover between you and the Red if possible. Shenzen is a great place for this (stay out of the courtyard, but peeking around the corner at a bot in range and then ducking back is a viable tactic), as is Dead City and Power Plant. On the city side of the map it works on Springfield and a little in the other areas, but not nearly as well... Canyon is a bit more difficult, but it can be done.
The point is, have a goal and use it to get to that goal. Don't use it as a brawler, use it as a mission oriented bot. It's a mindset really... the pinata Patton is, for me, a great one shot damage dealer, sure, but only if used while getting something achieved. Yes it's slow so not the best at beacon grabbing, but its potential damage is too strong for you to be ignored most times, so if you can tie up, damage, or kill a few Reds along the way to the beacon... playing it smart and utilizing cover, it can do a lot of good. Others probably use it differently, but for me, that works. You will get good with one shotting as you practice, it's tough to get spot on at first but it'll come.

I find at the level I am at however that I can rarely trust team mates to go after and defend beacons. Hence stalking enemy to unload with a mini death button isn't my primary goal. ps. I am usually in the top 3 of my level, usually at least equal the most beacons and have a 60% win rate. I am not dead weight in a team.

Okay. I have 2 Boas and 2 Griffins. I only regularly use 1 Griffin at the moment.
Anyhow, I really never used Pinata Pattons to support others. I charged with them. What it teaches is timing, and when to hide and when to show (sometimes, showing your loadout to the red bot works to your advantage). Up in gold, you'll find most battles to be a chess game - the long reload of the Pinata teaches you to make the most of your turn.
About the Patton being not good with beacons, I agree. Which is why the Pinata Patton was one of my middle bots, when the initial beacon-capping is done and both teams are kind of settling in.

Have done a bit more with a piñata Patton. Killed of a flanking Cossack in yamauto before managing to finish off a red at centre beacon and another at the far end. Then got lost in the wilderness behind reds base until we won the game (no ramps at the back of that base - I'll remember that from now on. One of a very few games ever that I have not gotten killed.
Also had a one on one brawl with a boa in dead city (around a silo) and managed to give him two volleys without much damage myself.
Still all stuff I think I could have done as well with a boa, though maybe taking a few more hits in the meantime. The boa seems to keep its weaponry to the very end, the Patton loses them left right and centre.

I spent a good few hours playing last night in an attempt to build silver. I am on holidays for 5 days without wifi and wanted to have weapons upgrading from 7 to 8 for that entire time. I already got a spare thunder and taren done earlier this week. I think i'll have a 3/8 medium hanger in about 2 weeks. Then i will have weapons that could be used eigher there or in a 6/8 heavy hanger (at least for experiments).

Just for fun I jumped teirs yesterday. Took all my level 7and 8 weapons and put them on level 6 silver heavy bots. Few slight mismatches but I am getting the gang of it.
My win rate has gone from 75 to 50 percent. It is something of a different game, I am averaging 3 or 4 place instead of 1 or 2. Having real trouble getting beacons. Rarely manage more than one gold.
PDB griffin is good. DB griffin with one orkan and one taren not quite so good. Top performer however is a dual thunder pin Natasha. Will have to get a second trident and try it out. I am also thinking of getting a russian db griffin as I think it will suit my style.
Need to jump into gold or wsp bots I think to be properly competitive. Or just up my weapons slightly again.

I think 6/7 or 6/8 bots get you mixed with higher levels, like 7/10 or 8/10, maybe the occasional 11/11 and 11/12's also. So first thing is that your weapons aren't on par. Second, it looks like not all your bots are matching - you mention a Griffin with one Orkan and one Taran.
But yes, it's a veryy different game from silver to gold. Generally, I need to be much more careful and discerning in gold, because one mistake, you walk into the path of a DB Griffin or Rhino, you're dead.

And better survability. Anyways kudos for taking that bold step. It took some courage for me to jump straight to high silver/low gold after being so comfortable in low silver/high bronze.

Clawing my way into better results. Got over 750000 damage in one game, and got a 10 gold for another. (I can get 10 gold any time I want with my destrier / cossack hanger, but this is more fun). Liking the griffins. Not liking the leos but I'm about to put a trident / CRV setup on one of them. Still seem to go really well with the natasha but I'll see once it has pinatas on it.

PS. Short term plan. Retire one Leo, make the other mid support. Get one more griffin and have one each DB RDB PDB. Probably get one Galahad to replace the Natasha.

Sun Tzu wrote the Art of War. Now I shall write the Art of War Robots :
The following guide presumes you have overriding control over your entire team's strategy :
Team configurations should be balanced, with different bots doing different tasks, ultimately contributing towards victory. In a standard 6-bot team, the following battle configs and plans are reccommended :
1-2 Long Range Support(sniper or artillery) Eg. Natasha, Fury The support crew will chip away at enemy bots' health from afar and/or deliver the killing blow with high-damage rounds. When played correctly, support can at least sap the enemy's morale and at worst cripple them.
1-2 Beacon Cappers/Liberators Eg. Stalker, Cossack Useful not only at the start of the match, for light bots can quickly overrun undefended enemy beacons. They can then retreat and repeat this process.
2-4 Combat Specialists Eg. Griffin, Leo Arguably the backbone of any War Robots team, their sole aim is to destroy as many enemy bots as they can. Dying to achieve this purpose is acceptable.
1-2 Defense Specialists Eg. Raijin, Fujin They will hold and defend beacons that teammates have captured/liberated. With their vast quantities of health and entrenchment abilities, they can successfully repel waves of attackers.

How can you have up to 4 combat specialists and still have 1 of all three other things. I think you need some 0-2's in there. Trust me. I have no overall control of my teams strategy. I have had one game of Yamatau that everyone seemed to work perfectly. Two good snipers, 3 close combat and a beacon capper - who changed to close combat when his job was done. Cleaned up the opposing side in about 5 minutes - perfectly aligned and supported charge through the centre. (and probably one too many campers on the opposing side).

The point is to fill in the blanks when you see pieces missing from your team. The role of us wiki players is to, quote, "kill [them] with knowledge", so being selfless could mean the difference between victory and defeat.

The role of us wiki players is to, quote, "kill [them] with knowledge", so being selfless could mean the difference between victory and defeat. Of course. Given this, I have to choose the job that I think will most help lead to victory. 9 out of 10 times this is a knife fighter. I have a mid-range but I am not good with it. I use it like a knife fighter, get too close and get wiped out by close range weapons. I really need to learn to stay back when I reach 480 or so meters. I haven't yet purchased anything suitable to make a long range support setup. I do have a level 5 zenit in my inventory, but I don't intend to use it. Will probably get one or two kang daes to try out at some point. Now opinions? On a Natasha? Is there any (non gold) light weapon that would be suitable to go alongside a sniper setup? I am thinking that regardless of the matched range rules it may be better to equip with something like magnums as nothing else is going to do any real good supporting the sniper shots and in an emergency situation the magnum is not going to be out of juice and could be useful for defence or delivering coup-de-grace.

I retired my Leos as well in favor for Griffins. Well i retired a leo and added a rdb griffin. Levelling weapons now. BUT. One of the first games with this setup i started with the leftover leo (thunder magnum 6/8) and just had an incredible run. Yamatau. Set up at centre beacon killing one red on the way. Racked up a further 8 kills and 422000 damage with that one bot from the left sniper position. Don't know why but the opposition was horrible. Mostly griffins and other leos and I still had half health and three out of four guns at the end. A shield bot would have wiped the floor with me. Also the kills weren't from near dead either, mostly half to full health.

Seeking advice on gold purchase: Currently have around 2k au originally with goal to buy fury or lance - just because all the top guys seem to have them. Meanwhile, saving up to 5k takes SO LONG! And lately seeing a lot of chatter about aphids and zeus, son wonder if I should focus on shorter term spoils. I am interested in the aphids but how do i know if i'd like them? I don't care for using spirals or hydras - are they similar to use? Also, zeus used to be a big deal a few months back, but now with all the physical shields, are they losing their attraction?
I prefer close-combat knifing and power capping, but interested to mix in a little mid-range into the action. My main hanger (below) is currently 6/8, slowly transitioning to 7/9. Advice welcome! ==== 6/9.9 TT boa 6/9.9.8 plasma galahad 6/9.8.8.8 DB griff (one ork is 9 - have a 3rd ork upgrading in the back) 6/8.8.8.8 RDB griff 6/8.8 thunder carnage
Swap options: boa -> 6/8 plasma rhino carnage -> 6/8 pinata stalker thunder carnage -> trident carnage (in progress - got the tridents but haven't had time to level them)

The best way to try something without buying it is to joint the test server sessions. I like ur hangar and your proposed changes aside from the piñata Stalker. Since you already have some support with RDB Griffin, I would do the Boa to plasma Rhino swap if I were u. Your trident carnage isn't a bad idea either tho. Just like you, I have one too that hasn't been lvl'd.

1. No, Aphid is nothing like Spiral or Hydra. Aphid does far more damage, so it's far more fun. Downside is the much shorter range, but it hardly matters. It's fun. Hydras and Spirals these days are mainly a counter to Trident Fury. 2. I'd enjoy that Stalker now if I were you. At 7/9 that will become much less useful. And even less as you level up. It's also probably the most annoying bot to have 2 Aphids on. 3. Zeus is great when there are lots of Griffins flying around. It would just suck if you bring it out and it so happens there are a lot of shield bots. In that case, it's more of a situational weapon, which limits its usefulness overall. Trident is better in my opinion, but after using a Trident Fury, I'm never going back to Trident Carnage. Thing with Trident vs. Zeus, you don't really need to flank with a Trident. Damage is the same whichever side you attack from, plus you have splash. So having 3 on a Fury is much better than 2 on a Zeus. With Zeus, flanking is important, so it's better to have them on a Carnage. 4. Since you're moving up to gold and you already have a replacement, I suggest you park that Boa already. The longer you hold on to it, the longer you'll be tempted to spend silver upgrading it. Hope this helps!

Make it 4, it's essential in high tier. Many bots use it in pairs. About Aphids, some mentioned that it has been silently nerfed recently. And Pix replied to a comment on FB, that it might go thru another round of silent nerf, nobody knows.

Thanks all for the useful advice! Reading DogTrail comment, now i really want a fury! And you are right about my boa. Has sentimental value being 2nd or 3rd bot i bough and definitely has highest mileage in my lineup, so hard to let it go... Also doesn't help that rhino is so darn difficult to pilot! Guess the responsible thing would indeed be to get another ork ( Zhøu™). Is it possible to be competitive in top tier without having fury or lance? Kinetic1 i'll give it a shot to apply for test server but think i dont have enough street cred for it lol. Heard there's a minimum requirement for it.
