Hi all
Have been playing for a couple of months. Currently somewhere in silver I think, win ratio varies between 50 and 75%.
My current hanger is 4 2/7 mediums (3 boas thunders 2 Tarans 1 orkan, 1 vityaz thunder CRV PINs) and one 3/7 Cossack taran. Only just got the 5th slot.
I am enjoying the level I am on, tried heavies for a bit and have returned to mediums. I am usually in the top 3 damage and often the highest beacon count.
I don't know for sure if upgrading the bots level will put me in a higher tier and I really don't want to tempt fate by doing that.
I am trying to figure out what direction to go from here. I don't want to upgrade my current hanger any more. I enjoy where it is. I have a set of mediums on level 5 and am considering getting a collection of weapons upgraded to 9 or 10 in the background so that I can eventually play a 6/9 or 7/10 hanger.
Opinions.

You can take your Cossack to 4/9 or 7/8 and your Mediums to 4/7 to sit solidly in low silver. You'll also want to swap the Pins for Pinatas on the Vityaz, or Magnums if you havee them.
From there you will be in a good spot to gather Ag and Au for awhile.
You'll want 2-4 Orkans, 4 Magnums, and 4 Tarans, 2-3 tridents before moving on to purchasing bots.
Wsp bots that are worth their salt are Carnage, Fujin, and Rhino.
Au bots that are popular higher up are Galahald, Lancelot and Fury. Get a Galahad as a definite, as its the Fastest, hardiest medium bot. Lance depends on your preference, and fury should be one of the last purchases you make as it's a mid range bot(Tridents).

Tinthefiend, the Cossack can go all the way up to 4/12 right?
My suggestion - plan out what you'd like your gold hangar to be, what bots you want to run. Then create a silver hangar that uses much of the same weapons as that. For example, you want to have a Lance and a Rhino. So, you'd like to have your silver hangar to also have at least one heavy and some medium and light hardpoints. This is so the weapons you're using in your silver hangar (and consequently, making it more powerful as you upgrade it) transfer easily to your gold hangar. I don't think you can have too many Magnums, Orkans and Tarans. Would also be good to have a couple of Thunders available.
I'd also like to invite you to at least check our silver clan. You can learn a bit more about it here:

That is a lot of Boa's is my first impression. 1 heavy and 1 medium slot on each. I would increase the number of hard points to increase the amount of damage and get more first places. 2nd I would switch the thunder with a Trident on the Vityaz. They have the same range and reload time. It will round out the role of the bot more.mid range support. I think you can upgrade your Cossack more and stay at the same level.

For rocket training use Pinatas, they are a lot less forgiving than pins if you miss, and a lot greater reward at 300M meters or less. Pinatas are also a staple for upper tiers,so dont be afraid to upgrade a few.

The boa's I am very comfortable with - I have considered a fourth. My current style of play often has them absorbing a fair amount of damage and I like that I can keep them in the front lines or defending beacons longer than other bots. (often go head to head with leo's and come out in front). If I replaced them with a golum and played the same way I would be killed a lot quicker and spend more of my time walking back to the front lines. While the boa is out there it is taking a lot of toll both on itself and the enemy. Almost every game I lead with the cossack then go to the boa.

That's good DB practice. It's even less forgiving than the typical DB setup of Orkans and Pinatas, since you can stop shooting Orkans if you make a mistake in aiming, and it reloads faster. With a Pinata Patton, you better get it right, else you're most likely dead since it can't run and the reload is so long.

We have very similar hangers. I run two Boa, both Thunder/Taran. I think the Vit runs best with Thunder/Magnums but I have tried Trident/Pins and it is an ok combo. I roll with a Patton and a Rogatka (nerfed) rather than a 3rd Boa and Cossack but rarely need to pull out the fifth bot.
If I were you I'd run the mediums @ 4/7 and pick up a set of magums for the Vit. Personally, I'm working on a Lancelot as it seems similar to the Boa in play style yet bigger and tougher.

Kinetic1, I swap Orkans and Tarans between my Boas and the Rog. I'm playing the game again after a --long-- hiatus (quit playing before workshop existed) and am enjoying the novelty of plasma but Orkans are what I'm used to.
Like Moody, the OP, I'm enjoying my mid tier hanger while I get my feet wet again and upgrading some other stuff in the background.

I've had a few games with the vityez trident (at level 4, still leveling). Already some interesting experiences.
I am definitely not getting the sheer damage levels as with the knife fighters.
On canyon in cossack. Got 3 beacons and jumped for the fourth (in the village at the far corner). Realised on the first shot from the taran that the one red approaching that beacon was a rhino (rarely seen at my level). Went for the vityaz rather than a boa for the second bot and got him in two salvos of the trident.
Had been taking long range pot shots while at centre beacon of yamautau. Got caught in the hole at the edge of the centre beacon (between the ramps - can't climb out whatever direction you run). Red Griffin walked up to centre and changed the beacon. I hit it at point blank range and took out about half his health, then got pumbled with molots or punishers until I reloaded and managed to wipe him out - then had to eject because I couldn't change the beacon back to blue from where I was.

Buy a golem for that trident. I like the trident/tulu/pin combo. Just keep a good distance and you can do some serious damage.
I've seen trident/tulu on a boa, but haven't had much inclination to try it, as by the time my golem dies I'm ready to move on. Boa might live forever if you keep your distance.
The DB Patton is actually a lot of fun and teaches patience. I was running one in silver for a while. You've gotta be sneaky, even more so than with the Thunder shutze.

^reload times vary more and less health than CRV/Trident Vityaz bad set up suggestion for Boa I agree, from what little use I have had - the crv and trident all firing together is very useful. I am not getting as good overall results compared to my all knife fighting combination, but I am definitely getting the hang of it. I can't seem to keep in the back lines though - if I do no one seems to go and get any beacons. Probably better with the pinata patton for the style I have ended up using. (I don't know how many times I've ended the battle with a loss because of no beacons and I've capped 5 or 6 myself). PS, leveling pinatas now. I've had a bit of fun with them but while they are still down at level 5 and everything else is level 7 they just aren't quite up to scratch.

Patton or thunder/pinata Leo. All level 8. Not overly competitive in gold but still useful. But loads of fun.

If you're playing with randoms more often than not, yes, it's better to have 4 or 5 knifers because the game's legwork is there. If you have 1 midrange, use it only when the situation calls for it - like a heavy or britbot occupying a certain beacon you need to take. Also, it gets easier to stay out of range in a Trident Carnage or Trident Fury - that extra 100m really makes a difference. But Trident PIN Vityaz is good practice for midrange support. It's more about learning the technique than dealing the damage at that point.

I have since had a game where both the patton (not yet fully leveled) and the Vityaz did some significant damage before pulling out a boa right at the end. I think I can get used to this.

I am going to have a full 3/7 medium hanger running in the next few days. I'm thinking of dropping the Cossack completely.
After that I am going to start arming up a high silver (I think) hanger. 3 heavies at 6/9 and a couple of medium at 7/9. Aim of the high silver hanger is to have the weapons up armed for an eventual gold hanger (while saving for appropriate bots).

I am doing the same thing, but would advise caution with regard to heavies at 6/9, which should put you solidly in low gold, which will be tough for your mediums to keep up with (unless you have Galahads of course). My experience with an all 6/7 to 6/8 heavy hangar is mixed and I see a lot of low gold hangars, but it's still mostly high silver.

The only way to run heavies without workshop bots is at least 6. So in order to experience heavies I need to get to some level of around 6/8 (weapons two levels above bots). At the level I am at (medium 3/7) I often see Leo's, Natasha's and Griffins. I assume they have pretty poor weapons for their level. I know my boa's tend to make pretty short work of them. If 6/8 puts me in low gold then so be it. I will struggle on as best I can and upgrade evenly so I at least have everything balanced at approximately the same level. I can always go back and play my current silver hanger or my 1/3 cossack/destrier hanger.

The problem with starting/staying with your midrange, especially if it's a strong one for the tier, is that you might fall into the trap of staying in it too long because you're dishing out so much damage. I've seen so many pilots, myself included back then, stay in their Trident Fury or Trident Carnage or Spiral Patton or whatever, only to lose on beacons because they didn't shift to their knifers early enough. I've seen a Trident Fury bail into a Rhino, a Sniper Tasha bail into a PDB Griffin, a Spiral Patton bail into a Mag Gep too late to win the battle. And in the case of the Mag Gep, what a waste! I was meched out and all my team had left were 2 Nats and a half-dead Leo, all sporting mostly artillery weapons. This is why I recommend pulling out the mid-range only when the situation calls for it, and change bots when the situation is resolved. Trident Fury easily racks up 600k damage, but without teammates to run the beacons, it will never win. And with randoms, all too often you get teammates who don't run beacons.

I'm tending to agree with this. The trident is only coming out on occasion (when needed to snipe centre beacon on yamatau for example). I am having issues with the patton pinyata. Yes it is impressive when it takes something out in one shot, but it is more dependent on clear shots over terrain than a thunder / taran. It is disheartening to see a full clip exploding meters in front of the enemy due to a small obstacle. A Boa taran can take something out in about 20 seconds and still have more health than a full patton - and then have something in reserve when something surprises you from behind or whatever. The patton does work well on a couple of maps (dead city) with a LOT of cover and some raised sniping areas to more too and from.

I understand the desire to use tridents for that middle beacon, but I would argue that it's a perfect example of when a study knife fighter (even a Boa) would serve your team better. Sure, the tridents cause damage, but until you walk a bot frame down to that beacon it's still counting against you. Heading down there isn't easy, but it will also improve your skills. Also, it may take a good bit of saving, but a quadmag Patton should never be underestimated for ANY map. It's crazy versatile and the mags will serve you well the entire game.

Not all level 7 yet. PS. The trident sniping is not staying still. It's getting a few shots in while on the way towards the beacon and then sniping campers from there. If there were no other knife fighters getting down and dirty I wouldn't do it.

Sometimes that bot on the middle beacon is just too powerful for you, so the midrange has its benefit. If what's up there is a Stalker or a Vityaz, then go ahead and beat that thing. But if it's a Rhino or a Lancelot, then you need a different strategy. So it's really a matter of what the situation is.

So over the last several days I got everything up to 3/7. Stopped using the Cossack and played with the Patton with a variety of weaponry. I can't get the Patton to hold it's own with any weapon mix. It is just too fragile. Mid range vityaz has it's place. Looking at a 4th boa for the moment. They just work for me. Need to upgrade a fourth thunder.
Now background upgrading some weapons to 8 looking towards the next step.
Looking at getting a 4th taren and second orkan and leveling them. Then arming up 3 griffins. (Will need to practice with them) Then figure out gold/wsp for two other bots for low gold.

Moody, I'm loving the game play at 6/8 My hanger for reference: 8 Gareth 7/8 Tar/Mag (Tar upgrading as of 20 mins ago) 6 Lance 8/7/7 Thun/Tar/Ork 6 Gala 8/8/7 Ork/Aph/Aph 6 Gala 8/8/8 Tar/Mag/Mag 7 Golum 8/8/8 Tri/CRV/Tul I will get the weapons for the Light bot and mediums up more once everything has crested at 8... but even where I am my percentage and kill average have climbed almost non-stop. Either the MM has gotten better since the last few updates or I just found a sweet spot. Many of the matches have ended with me at 1st or 2nd. Now, I am fully aware of the advantages of the Brit Bots and I'm OK with it... I do switch out a (all level 6) Boa for the Lance and either another golem, a Vit, or a Patton for the Galas when I feel the urge, and still get matched appropriately. The top spot is a bit harder to grab, but not by much. I say all this to enforce the idea that this is a great spot to land at in the realm of upgrades... and, frankly, a good place to get gold. Not as quick as the all TriMaggie hangers but still pretty regularly... without the feeling that I am just overpowering anyone. Most of my competition is very close to my level... I'd say 30 to 40% are higher leveled than me. Just not always in weapons... or the right weapons, anyway (level 10 Norcs and Zens are common... and they do occasionally make things difficult at that damage level... flushing me out of cover if I am in a damaged bot, but nothing crazy...) But if I put a level 9 heavy weapon on that Lance... it all goes to crap. That one change pits me against rather difficult 10-12 hangers... and while I don't go the way of cannon fodder... I do finish 4th or 5th quite often. Just can't do as much damage with level 7-8 weapons, and level 6 bots die quickly against level 10-12 weapons. I did not notice any difference after getting the Gareth to 8 and the golem to 7... so far all that above advice in the other posts is holding true. Think I'll stay here a bit The fights are usually challenging, and you will make enough Ag and Au to keep the upgrades going in the background. Forgive my rambling as I just wanted to give ya a different perspective... that is essentially saying the same thing! Good Luck!
