Continuing on a discussion in another thread...
A contention was made that many of us are "too old" to play the game... much disagreement ensued. Started a thread to continue the conversation since it was offtopic where it was.

Have no idea what the context of the original discussion was, but I'm 35. If some people consider that "too old" (whatever that even means), they're welcome to. I don't give two shuffling pickle「dookie」s what others think of my age. :-)

I'm 49. As noted in the other thread, people of my generation were born and raised on arcade games, early cart consoles, Apple/C64/TRS80 gaming and so on. Proposing that we are "too old" is one of the most deadliest and naive statements one can make and honestly will mark you as an idiot.

I don't know the original context either (may want to include a link so more people can partake).
But based on your summary of the argument, that's completely unfounded. From what I've experienced, the amount of "older" players in this game is far more than any other mobile game I've played. It's a rather sophisticated and complex game. And I think that, along with the need for strategy, appeals to older gamers. I know we are entering a weird time, where gamers from the 80-90s are now in their 30s and 40s now. The reason you didn't see a lot of adults playing video games 20 years ago is because they didn't have them when they were kids. Adults nowadays all had video games when they were kids.
Not even fitting into that scenario, I have a clanmates that's in his 70s and he's awesome and great to play with. The only reason I can see a young whippersnapper getting mad at old people playing is that some clans won't allow kids to join.

Well, I ain't no Spring Chicken, but I ain't ancient yet, either, and I would like to think I do OK at this game. I'm sure plenty of younger folk do better, and plenty do worse, but I would say that the generation gap that used to be there between gamers and non gamers is mostly gone. Our generation grew up on games... so it's not just a "kiddy" thing anymore. It's part of the entertainment that we do to unwind from RL. Let the Yungins say what they will, I'll let my widdle ole wobots do my talking.
- Hell, when I was a young boy and early in my Teens, I had to fight with my Pop over PC time. He loved Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe (a cool campaign based combat flight sim set in WW2 dealing with the air war over Europe... I miss that game!) was another one we both loved. He was in his 40's then, and he played Doom 2 well into his latter years whenever he'd get bored lol.

They'll figure it out when they mature a bit. Until then, youth learns best by the pain experience delivers. I wish it weren't so, but nobody asked me.

I've been killing people online since 1988 and I was out of college then.
If 'they' think I am too old for War Robots, they are welcome to take me on ingame whenever they like. After all... I should be an easy kill, no?

I'm 41 and still kicking 「bum-bum」. In those 41 years I've learned two things. 1. being as I get older I realize I didn't know half what I thought I did in prior years. 2. what life throws at me hasn't killed me, just made me stronger. Another thing is this game is like chess. It's not physical. Just tactics and strategy.

A minor riff on the whole to-old-to-play thing. One of the great things about video games is that I can actually play them with my dad and my son. I've been able to out sports my dad since I was a teenager, and I'm just starting to be on the receiving end with my son, but we can all play video games together competitively. You're too old is only slightly less stupid than girls can't play video games.

When I was a kid I remember my mom telling me that playing too much video games will ruin my eyesight. I've played 16 hours straight of counter strike when I was in college and to this day at 40 I still have better than 20/20 vision. So I don't think 40's is too old to play. On the other hand my thumbs are starting to have some arthritis in them so that might actually hinder me more

SNIP.... Proposing that we are "too old" is one of the most deadliest and naive statements one can make and honestly will mark you as an idiot. Well, I am fairly certain that being a male within the age of 11-19 marks most an idiot for a lot of things. Not all, but a lot. Teenagers are usually just NOT going to get it. They know all. I sure did This vid was great... I was reminded of it by this thread... And yes, that second guy is Dwight from "The Office"

Adults have a significant advantage in this game since they have jobs and paychecks.
Dropping an occasional $10 on entertainment hardly affects an employed adult.
Do you know how many couch cushions an unemployed tweenager has to search under to find ten whole dollars?
And that's why daddy has so many Orkans. EAT IT JUNIOR, HAHAHAHA!

Old man holds his own just fine here. Played just about every game made since we got "pong" in the 70s, and still love baiting over aggressive kids into facemeltings

Well from what I have seen from the time I was on clans is that the majority of the players are 30> of age. So this is a game that more mature people like, maybe because of some nostalgic nature(mechwarrior?). Well that's at least what I heard from my older clanmates which were really great guys, all of them! But I've seen discrimination against much younger players too or maybe it was just crude humour? Hmm, well some of the younglings left because of such cases but they were a minority really. I like testing myself against more experienced players of life

You will never know the true joy that is SCSI termination, you plug things in and they generally work. Buy yourself a stack of raspberry pi's and start doing some projects, you will quickly surpass your dads knowledge and a lot of your peers. Honestly the skills you gain will serve you for the rest of your life!
