I get the phrase. Its very picturesque. When I started the game a few short weeks ago (if that), my coworker friend warned me about well-geared out players farming battles for gold. I guess that he was trying to prepare me for not getting discouraged (and quitting) if I ran into some opponents that ran me over. Now, I've had my share of being clubbed and I've learned a lot since starting. For instance, a big thing I learned was to pay attention to capturing beacons, especially after I lost my share of games that I thought were 'in the bag' for my side due to beacon control (or lack thereof). There's a learning curve to the game and w/ anything new, but its really not very steep, kinda standard, really -- not compared to a lot of games. Try learning how to play Eve Online. There's still much more that I don't know about how to play that game after years of leaving the game and returning than what I do know about the game.
So, my point: do you consider 'seal clubbing' an appropriate phrase into Bronze level? I get how unequal it is to fight a player's hangar of 2+ Gepards armed w/ EP Magnums as a level 10 or below player but where is the cut-off? I mean, adversity and loss is what pushes players to get better and play better, no?
And, as a funny side story, my coworker had asked me how I was liking the game a few days after I had told him that I would try playing it when I got home after work. I told him that I had uninstalled it because the AI was stupid and it was too easy. There are SO many damn fun games out there to be wasting time on easy and/or boring games -- mobile or on PC. My friend looked at me funny and said, 'what AI are you talking about?' I said, 'Those other robots. Its low AI and too easy.' He told me, 'Dude, there's no AI opponents. Those are other players.' I didn't believe him. I argued that he was wrong. Other players can't play that bad. In fact, the reason I re-installed the game was to prove him wrong. How could he be recommending a game that he doesn't even know that there's an AI side to it? I was gonna show him that the game he liked so much and was playing against 'other players' was just low AI. But guess what? -- he was right. There's no AI, even for brand new players on training/tutorial mode. I dug the game after that... even when I got stomped by other players... but I absolutely got better. There are tactics to use in the game; so many players just charge right in.
I just think the phrase 'seal clubbing' is a bit overused. So much ranting about it. There are so many players playing this game 24/7 that you rarely even run into the same player again.

okay I know y'all are as bursting to rant about clubbers as I am, but this guy clearly hasn't had his fill yet. Let's just make a pact to not roast him before he realises how bad the issue is eh?

Most players naturally progress upwards as the start to level their bots and weapons. This is going to increase the difficulty naturally. Personally, I draw a line that many would scoff at. If you intentionally lower (or limit) the levels of your hangar to face competition that you know is inferior then, at a minimum, you're farming. If you do it in a way that takes advantage of quirks in the MM to leave yourself grossly overpowered (or over-resourced) as well, then that's clubbing.

Can I see your hangar? You maybe hanging out at too low of a tier. Just spent over 40 mins typing up a reply, and when I went to upload my hangar image, the image uploader froze on it. A 'Program Non-Responsive -- close?' window came up, and I was really hoping that it would just be the image loader window, but no, everything closed down. Grrrrrrrrr! I don't feel like trying to remember and re-write all that right now. Maybe later.

Would you post a screen shot of your hanger in my thread, war-robots-forum.freeforums.net/thread/37/help-figuring-out-hangerI would love to do a workup sheet on you and give you all your numbers.

Ok, so I've been thinking about how to cure the Gep menace. The best thing is this.....reduce the Damage it can take but increase the curve of how many points it gets per level.
So this is the Normal Chart Level Cost Health Speed Time 1 1200 Au 54,000 58 NA 2 10k 56,000 58 5 minutes 3 20k 59,000 58 2 hours 4 70k 61,000 58 4 hours 5 140k 64,000 58 10 hours 6 160k 67,000 58 14 hours 7 320k 70,000 58 1 day 8 hours 8 680k 73,000 58 1 day 16 hours 9 1360k 76,000 58 2 days 6 hours 10 1640k 80,000 58 2 days 18 hours 11 3280k 83,000 58 4 days 14 hours 12 5720k 87,000 58 5 days 10 hours
Take this and change it to something like this to help prevent this mess.
Level Cost Health Speed Time 1 1200 Au 42,000 58 NA 2 10k 45,000 58 5 minutes 3 20k 49,000 58 2 hours 4 70k 54,000 58 4 hours 5 140k 60,000 58 10 hours 6 160k 66,000 58 14 hours 7 320k 70,000 58 1 day 8 hours 8 680k 73,000 58 1 day 16 hours 9 1360k 76,000 58 2 days 6 hours 10 1640k 80,000 58 2 days 18 hours 11 3280k 83,000 58 4 days 14 hours 12 5720k 87,000 58 5 days 10 hours

This makes them easier to kill at low levels and forces them to level up a bit. Not a perfect solution but one that will help alleviate the problems.

Everyone has the same opportunity to buy the GEPs - So why all the complaining.
I could understand if it was a Bot that was a one time purchase but it isn't.
Also any Bot brought with gold shouldn't be nerfed as its meant to be a Premium Bot.

Also any Bot brought with gold shouldn't be nerfed as its meant to be a Premium Bot. Because if everyone has to buy the Gepard to succeed at low level, it becomes pay-to-win. And when everyone is running the Gepard with three mags, this game will be sa enjoyable as pulling teeth. Gold bots should provide an advantage, yes, but they shouldn't be d**n near invincible. It's a bad model to follow - the game will lose the players who refuse to pony up the cash for the OP bot, and eventually the players who paid for it will get bored of playing each other and quit as well. It's a fine recipe for killing a game. Seen it happen. Most mobile games are popular for 1-2 years at most - War Robots is well past that already. It could get even bigger, and the best way for Pixonic to ensure it stays that way is to make the game balanced and interesting. I play in low gold where Gepards are a bit pathetic when encountered, but as I worked my way there was a very painful war of attrition against the clubbing clans in silver tier. Who exclusively run low-level Geps with maxed or nearly so weapons. When you encounter one of those clans for the first time, you will understand the helpless rage experienced by a newer player trying to learn the game and standing absolutely no chance against their superior bots and weapons.

So,I'm trying to figure out this thread... I think it is a rant about people ranting about TriMaggies. All I can say, is that unless you have played as a noob in the tier(s) that full clan farming happens, or even 2 or 3 hangers full of Rog/Geps, you can't see what it is like. Coming up through the tiers when I did, the epidemic was in full swing... and it was a frustrating experience. Buying a hanger full of premiums just to compete with the exact same hanger in that low of a tier, when that particular bot is next to useless in higher tiers, is NOT a solution. I agree with some sort of hard and fast rule to keep that particular exploit out of the Noob tiers... but I don't know where the line should be drawn.
As far as nerfing, I don't think they should, and I think they need to give the full speed back to the Rog, most people who bought them, did so because of that speed. Let the Mag/Rogs be awesome, but just keep the level 1/9 combos out of the noob tiers.
Either way, not an easy fix for Pix, as they definitely make $ off of it... and the folks who roll with it will not be very pleased if it is nerfed... yet, the young babybots may not decide to stay playing if they get squashed too often in the early levels.
Maybe make it so that level 20s (access to WS) never mix with levels under 20? That would be a good start, at least. Or, no WSP based weapons or bots in matches that include level 19 and below players? IDK, again, not an easy fix.

These folks find they need to drop back down and essentially start over. This would make a lv 20 hard-line impractical. I recommended a slight MM penalty per level, so if a lv 30 HAD to drop back they could, but they'd have to let themselves be slightly outgunned. This would probably be a good compensation for their experience, though, even if they didn't play spectacularly well.

I do not abide by the saying "go along to get along"
when I first started this game I really liked the Gep and I wanted one too.....
Now....because I've seen the abuse and have been abused by them, I really hate them and I will NEVER get one... right now, I'm working on a hanger purposely to kill them.

But what about stripping the use of WSP weapons and bots if you are in a tier that has people below 20 in it? Basically, you will never get to the lower tiers without dropping those over leveled mags if you are above level 20? IDK... just a thought.

Again, it would probably just be better to put a very small MM penalty for *each* equipped WSP weapon in the active hangar. Between the level penalty and the weapon penalties you'd never see a maggep farming clan in low bronze again. Someone *might* make it down with one Gep, but not five Geps and fifteen mags.

New players in the lower tiers physically cannot get WS weps.

The problem with adding penalties instead of just BALANCING THE ONE OP BOT, would be that penalties are calculated after everything else in MM, and are only permanently On/Off. It'd be a pain to hard code a mild penalty into every single WSP weapon, whereas just starting the gep off at a lower speed (like every other bot in the game now) takes only a little copy paste and a few number edits.
The way the MM was setup, they'd have to make a completely new one to have temporary penalties, because penalties are added to the score of the HIGHEST weighted bot, not the individual items/bots. 1-5% MM penalty does very little, 10% MM penalty is why people run into slaughterfests after a winning streak, and 20% penalty is why Gareth/Galahad/ Lance and WSP bots don't see the light of day below mid-high silver.
If you impose a penalty on WSP items, they won't be seen until Mid-high silver.
Gep has the most firepower of any light bot, Pix has already changed their official info stating will get a speed nerf soon.
MM is already tempermental, unless you want it to get worse, leave it be lol

I have read two very good view points, so let me play the devils advocate here..
1. Adding penalties on Weapons: There already is... you can't get certain weapons until you reach certain levels, that was put in place for a reason, a reason I can't really figure out myself but a reason no less. Simply put... If you have to wait until you reach level 11 to purchase/equip/use a Thunder, then you should not be allowed to use it to beat up a level 2 player that can't fight back effectively or have a bot to take that sustained firepower.
2. Adding penalties on Bots: Exactly the same... no fuss, no muss... If you have to wait until you reach level 5 to purchase/equip/use a Golem, then you should not be allowed to use it to beat up a level 4 player that can't fight back effectively or have a bot that can do enough firepower to kill it.
3. Nurfing/buffing: I agree to the point that the AU Bots should be better than the normal AG Bots. I do not agree that nurfing is the solution to the abuse we have all experienced, Leveling and caps are the way to go. a Level 3 Gepard w/3 SURA at level 5 would never be seen by players under level 7. A Carnage is a WSP bot so no one under level 20 should EVER see it..
Now I know the argument about not having enough players to fill the void, but come on now....the matchmaker can't find 11, level 3 players in the entire world??? it seems to find every freaking level 30 player to throw at us.. Maybe they should create the A.I.Bots to fill in the gaps (only when needed)....
4. Clans: Clans should only fight Clans.. period.... What are they for? What do they do? Why should I join one? I can start my own, why? In every game I have ever played, they always offer some type of group membership... so groups should fight groups, not harvest from the beginners because there easy kills and can do nothing for them but to aid in the padding of their pockets and scores. Beginners are good enough to be used a source for gold, silver, XP and win%.. but not good enough for the clans to let them join, not to mention you can't make a Clan until your level 15 anyway... So why should a level 15 Clanner be fighting a level 10 player in the first place?
Oh, and please don't reply with the "because we can" answer, that solves nothing... level capping, weapon capping, bot capping, there already in use PIX just needs to tighten it up a tad bit and it will improve.
Changing anything will piss older players off because they played through a ton of BS to get where they are and they might quit. Changing anything will please new players because they can survive lone enough to enjoy this game and bring an influx of new cash to this game.

Level requirements are not equivalent with MM penalties, nor do levels actually equate to skill.
Also, no one would ever join a clan if it worked the way you said. Any actual affiliation would be done outside the game to avoid the penalty.

This seems a major part of your argument and I think it is a bad way to think. You say change is bad to the stats of a unit but then say we should change the way the units are used/scored in the system........ If there is anything constant with the game it is tweaking things. Updates are always making tweaks to damages of weapons and the stats of units. Remeber the recent speed changes on many units? So under your logic Pixonic should NEVER adjust the damage of weapons like the Molots and Punishers because it could piss off people who spent all the time leveling up Mags or Tarans?

Also...
(So under your logic Pixonic should NEVER adjust the damage of weapons like the Molots and Punishers because it could piss off people who spent all the time leveling up Mags or Tarans?)
Why would they need to mess with the Molots & Punishers again?
If I spent god knows how long to get a mag/taran to 12, then nurf the damage to like a level 10....uh..yea I would be pissed.. The bots I've already bumped up to level 7.. which is maxed speed for them that got nurfed to "a more realistic speed increase across the board" pissed me off to no end... and I'm positive it bothered other players too....I read something about the carnage or Rog........
I purchased certain weapons for a certain amount of damage...no to go back and to change there value could make them useless/valuable.. I'm saying change how they are used...come on now your not that dense a lvl 2 punisher vs a level 20 magnum at level 2 really... why in the world do I need to wait to get to level 20 to purchase a level 1 weapon?? there is no good reason.

Weapon types are not penalized in MM, every weapon is weighted the same, the only difference in MM calculations comes from the number of weapons a bot can equip. Bots are only penalized through battle rating in the MM. If you see a carnage actually worth it's salt before lv 20, you're doing something wrong(Like using heavies, wasting Au on upgrades, upgrading one bot+weapon way higher than the rest) Player level is not taken into account for MM except for a suspected MM score modifier at level 30. It's not about MM finding 12 players at the same level, it would be about finding 12 players at the same player level at the exact same time. Start going to battle through your platoon menu screen, it will tell you how many players are queued into matchmaker while you are waiting to be placed. The chances of players at micro brackets of player levels at lower levels all joining MM within 10-30 seconds is nil. Imposing any of these things will change average wait time from 10-15 seconds to 30 sec. to 5 minutes. 3. Au Bots are better than their Ag counterparts, even after the rog's nerf and the upcoming Gep nerf, They are STILL better than ther Ag counterparts. Gep has the highest power of any light bot, and the highest base HP, Rog is the only medium with Jump, and the only medium that outpaces it in a foot race is Galahad. Their nerf has been a long time coming. Since test server only uses Max levels, it leaves much to be desired when trying to balance bots and abilities, sometimes adjustments are NECESSARY. Otherwise the game falls into a power creep cycle where every new item has to outclass the last broken update, which leads to the point of basic items being COMPLETELY useless. 4. Clans are the social side of any game. Their point is to make friends after learning the basics of the game and expand your knowledge and skills. Player level means diddly squat. If levels werent capped at 30, you'd see some level 40's and some level 140's, focusing too much on that number, when it takes a week of casual play to reach lv 20, you're just going to give yourself(and everyone you mention it to) a headache. There are no 'caps' in place, the only hard restrictions are when you're able to buy equipment, and that time is short lived if you play 3-6 games a day. You're asking for something that will make the game, and every system it works on currently, tore up from the floor up.

Level requirements are not equivalent with MM penalties, nor do levels actually equate to skill. Also, no one would ever join a clan if it worked the way you said. Any actual affiliation would be done outside the game to avoid the penalty. I know that, but they should.... and I don't really believe that...you can't have a Lvl30 noob....or a Lvl 20 beginner I don't know why the clan won't work.. it works for most other games. why do you say no one would join? why DO they join? There are so many things wrong, account sharing, clubbing, clan gangbangs, over powered bots, under powered bots, not enough armor, to much armor..... on and on and on.....
