Rule of thumb: if you hit a wall, you get the beam. If you hit a mech, either blue or red, you get a sticky bomb. Yeah, that much I figured out. I just haven’t figured out where the beam goes on the other side of the wall - does it continue in the same direction as where the shot came from? Or does it point at a red you may have been targeting? I do know that it follows your targeting, and not necessarily the direction you’re looking. I happened to have one red locked waiting for the DO’s to reload, but was looking at another to hit with the pod, but the pod went in the direction of the red I was locked on. At least I’m pretty sure it did.

I finally broke down and opened my 5th slot. I had an epiphany. My Killshot with Helix racks is my top mech - most lethal, and fastest for grabbing beacons. But the HR’s limit it’s usefulness in tight areas with overhead cover, and what if I want to save it for later in the game but still want to grab a beacon or two? Answer: Slingshot. Cheap = a little mitre expendable, though that unfortunately makes it an easy kill for the reds. I had a crapload of bp’s for it since it has been shelved for awhile, so I blew a lot of credits and a few a-coins and kicked it up to 4.5, so it can carry two MR8’s. Two problems solved - I have another beacon runner, with enough fire power to take at least one red out with me. And I’ve got some medium-long range back in the lineup. Let’s see how that works out. Early results for a couple of games are promising, especially when the reds send a whole brigade in to center beacon - spray-and-pray.

I've thought about the Slingshot and the Puma. I almost pulled the trigger on the Puma as a EMR mech (assuming it's max EN is 32). Then, I saw how low the wall HP was and I thought...hmmm, at max still not too bad as it might let me pull off a shot or too...then, I slapped my EMR16s on my Panther again just to test my theory and I couldn't hit jack. So, experiment averted... lol.
Slingshot as a first beacon capper is not bad. Personally, I'd put the HR on the Slingshot as that will let you hit from cover. I've thought about Slingshot too and if it had a max of 24EN, then I might have used it as a RM12 mech. But, I'm one level away from maxing my Stalker for this role, and I'd take the extra damage over speed. I might also play around with NL12 on the Stalker now that I've got it cloned.

It definitely pays to have two strong beacon runners so you don't have to sweat your first one dying. With maxed mechs my favorite combo is Surge AT12 & Killshot DL16+8 (I use my DL12s on other mechs). It depends on the map which I drop first, but both are great later game for cruising around, picking off mechs and grabbing beacons when you can.
Redeemer DL12s is also a real good beacon runner but I prefer EMR12s on it. It has a lot more health than a Killy, so it is better IMO in the sniper role. Surge is actually the best EMR platform of the three but nothing else can really use AT12s well. That should change when I get an Eclipse, which will ultimately replace my Killy. That's good with all three weapons, has higher HP, and won't get frozen by enemy Surges going for center.
I'm trying to figure out whether I should just go all out on maxing the Eclipse right after I buy it, ignoring everything else and basically buying almost the bps with A-Coins or not. I feel cautious since the Redeemer and EMR nerfs. Those happened fast and I don't want to go full bore and then see Eclipse get nerfed right as I max it. But I really want that extra HP...

Well here’s the thing … I like the HR’s on the Killshot, but I don’t want to become too reliant on guided weapons. I do have a bunch of Javs, but that would severely limit me on certain maps. There’s also the pilot issue - I’ve got another guided pilot on Gatecrasher with DL’s, so I’d have to buy a very expensive one to outfit three guided weapon mechs. For some reason, I never did well with MR’s on the Killshot, but on the Slingshot I’m not relying on it for a long-term engagement - just to grab one or two quick beacons, put some dents in a few reds, then get on with some more serious killing. I figured the MR’s on the Slingshot are a quick unload, so it won’t be exposed for too long. Of course, all it takes is one shot of just about anything to obliterate it. What I might try next in that slot is the Panther with MR’s, but I gotta get a MR12 first to satisfy its big appetite. Another thing I’m finding is that shooting the Slingshot straight towards the center beacon seems to distract the reds enough away from rushing my home beacon(s) right away, like some aggressive bots like to do. I don’t know if it’s coincidence, but I’ve won a lot more games than usual today with this hangar. I’m sure that will catch up with me and even out at some point.

I have been having some better luck going right for center in CPC too. Still early in the experiment. But I hadn't considered the factor of where you're drawing enemy AI to on a map as much. I have been trying to suss out what is going on with CPC when I get a human opponent as we've been talking about in another thread. I feel sure there are some ultra-weird AI v AI now, but I hadn't been thinking about this angle as much. Thanks for pointing this out. I am going to keep an eye on this.

Yeah - that brief winning streak was total coincidence. Back to normal tonight - multiple games now of very aggressive red AI, overpowering red human hangars, brain-dead AI teammates, and many losses. I can’t figure this $#!@ out. Although I’ve been playing more my normal game of grabbing close beacons first instead of beelining it to center. We’ll see later on when I do the daily challenge stuff. But I’m quickly finding myself back in that spot where I want to like this game, but sometimes they make it very hard to like.

This game might find its way back to the trash can today. First I get a monster game going, then lose the connection. Now we have a challenge for Surge, and I can’t win a single f’n game. Looks like they’ve totally cranked up AI again - I can’t move without begetting blasted, they go EVERYWHERE in gangs of at least three, meanwhile my idiot teammates are running around in circles. Now there’s server maintenance again for the umteenth time this week. Going past just frustrating to downright infuriating. Again.

Hmm...maybe the "maintenance" is to reset the self-learning AI?

On another uplifting note, I deleted all of my friends. They’re all useless, except for maybe two. 61 of ‘em flushed down the toilet. Either no games played, never send invites, never accept invites, all losses with them, or more losses than wins. Likewise with clans - I’m done accepting offers, unless it’s from someone I recall being a great teammate. Nobody at this level has the slightest concept of teamwork. I’ve left three clans so far because most of the few of them I actually squadded with were just awful teammates. I don’t do comms, I loathe everything about discord, so what’s the point. Maybe I’m just antisocial, because my experiences with clans the last time also sucked. Not much has changed since I quit over a year ago other than longer losing streaks and needing to spend more money on more stuff to keep up.

And just like that … done. Had enough. Again. Game still pisses me off way more than any enjoyment I get out of it. So … thanks for all the help in trying to get back into it, but see ya, guys. Good luck.

I don't let the game piss me off anymore,I just play when I have spare time,I don't have a burning desire to have the latest bots or weapons nor am I prepared to pay ridiculous amounts to get them.
I known when AI is steering the game to a predictable win/loss and go with the flow, when MM puts me against obvious OP opponents I have no issue with just leaving that game and starting another,my time is too valuable to play an unwinnable game.
I have to say I am running two accounts at the moment,my old retro and a newer F2P and have to say my retro is more fun to play as I can put up more of a fight even against the latest and greatest items, the F2P account is at the point where I am seeing a hell of a lot of people spending on the game, Plarium may have moved Panther and Killshot further down the progress path but everyone is buying them,at my level Killshot is a joke as players just use it as a battering ram to one zoom kill opponents, then add to that list other top level bots and weapons money can buy and F2P is a real dumpster fire to try and play.
Maybe try and get your old mature account back up and running you may find like me there is a little more fun to be had rather than in the lower leagues where players a fresh faced and happy to buy lots of deals rather than us that have travelled the Plarium road long enough to know where it will end.

I don't have time to grind either, so I don't mind shelling out for the cheap A-coins deals and let those slowly build up until I have enough for ranking something up.
