I was doing the Dev Derby this morning and thinking about what I wanted to upgrade when I noticed I had a lot of RG16 blueprints. I got it to level 5 and it will take 3 to bring it to level 6, and I have 8 blueprints, so I think I have enough to bring it to level 7 and then it's a matter of saving enough A-coins to clone it.
But, the question is, should I?
I have 3 24EN mechs: 1 x Guardian and 2 x Panther. I like the Panther enough to clone it and I'm running CB12 and SB12 and like them both that way. The Guardian is running Thanos and I think I have enough blueprints to clone it too. But, do I want to? It's cheaper to clone it and run two Thanos builds than to get the Redox, which is similar in speed, lower HP, and the ability does damage while slowing down reds, so a Thanos build would work on it too. Plus, it'll give me a bit of variety instead of running two Guardians exactly the same. The two Panthers run similar but with notable differences due to their different weapons.
Another thing to consider is that I'll have to shelve either my Killshot (which I recently R5'd) or my Shadow which is my best JR6 platform and most fun mech. I would shelve my KS before I shelve my Shadow, but then I'd be kissing all those Smooth Operator achievements away and lower my chances of getting on the MVP podium.
On the pro side, if I get another Thanos mech (either Guardian or Redox), I no longer have to plan for the CB8 or CB10.
So, my options:
2nd Guardian - cheapest path to another 24EN mech just have to duplicate the Guardian and RG16, don't know exactly but approx 5k or a bit more in A-coins.
Redox - about 8k A-coins right now, or an early Father's Day present to myself plus under 3k A-coins for the RG16 and some variety in game play - plus Redox might get another buff.
Carbines - about 15k A-coins to get both Carbines and keep my KS in my hangar.
Thoughts?
Edit: another quick thought, does the Redox's ability damage Ares and Jugg's shield or both shield and mech if the shields are up?

Cause, if I get another 24EN mech, then I have to shelve either my Shadow or Killshot, and I like the Shadow more.
IDK, I think right now, I'm kinda leaning towards the Redox just because I want a little bit of variety, and Thanos Guardian and Thanos Redox will play similar but have some differences.

I think you can make Redox work for you... but the point is, to me, that you have to make it work for you. It's just not worth the cost for what you get. If the cost is not an issue, however, then the only factor is whether or not you like it, in my book.
Not sure about the ability either... I would imagine it would deplete the shield first on a Juggy since it surrounds it... but that's just a guess. The counter to that idea is that I know the Stasis effect from SBs will go though the Juggy shield, so if the corrosion is similar it would too... I will ask the clan if punishing didn't already.

I'm still thinking about it and trying not to do an impulse buy. Good thing I'm happy with my hangar the way it is!
The thing that bothers me about the Redox is it's slow speed coupled with it's low HP. It's basically got HP like the Panther (or less) and speed of the Guardian, and doesn't have either's ability to negate incoming damage. On the flip side, it can damage and slow things through walls or around corners, and the Thanos build is ideal for it cause you'll want to kill your target as fast as possible, and nothing kills mechs as fast as the Thanos build.
That's the thing about this game. I really truly appreciate the balanced nature of the new gear, but at the same time, the ONLY reason someone will get them is to try something new. It makes me worried about the future because the Devs may wake up one day and realize they can make quicker money by selling power.

Well I totally derailed my upgrade plans again. Ares challenge - my Ares was still sitting at R3.7. In the past I’d just load it up with jabs and run it solo in my hangar, and then grind out each challenge with a 245 power mech. But I’d been toying with the idea of ranking it up so I could outfit it with MR8’s, and possibly use it on some tourney maps as well. And so I did. Banged out all the event challenges in under an hour, even got a few MVP’s. It probably won’t see regular duty, but at least I have a usable alternative whenever I so desire. Unfortunately that means I’m starting all over again amassing credits and a-coins, which I think now will first go towards cloning the Panther, and then cloning the SB12 for it until I decide if/when I want a railgun. I really, really don’t want to drop 50 clams on one friggin gun, so that’s going to be a long, slow slog. I’m really thinking the stuff I have will be good enough as it gets leveled - so that’s 5 mechs and 4 weapons I want to get up to R6 before the railgun hits the radar.

My upgrade plans change way to often. Currently looking at R6ing my CB12. Have the Credits and A Coins just need 3 more blueprints. It’ll replace the dual SB12s I run on Panther now. But once I do that I’ll need to rank 6 my Panther to clone him and run the dual SB12s on the second copy.

I was running them on the Guardian, but I do much better with them on Panther, and SB16/CB8 on the Guardian. Guardian will probably get the Thanos build … if I live long enough to see a railgun in my shed. The SB16/CB8 combo works well enough for now.

Speaking of diversions from the path... I did this yesterday... completely on a whim:
It was R4 Lvl 1... lol... damnit.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Also, gonna run this hangar a few times to see if it's as much fun as I want it to be:
I think CPC would be a blast with this... hoping so!

I'd suggest swapping the MR and RPGs between Shadow and MD. Shadow shines as a persistent midrange/flanking nuisance. MD wants to take as little damage as possible so it can keep itself tip top. 10 seconds of reload, 10 seconds of healing where nothing can shoot you lol

I will be trying RPGs on a lot of builds to decide if I want to 6 star them or not... will defintely try that build next! Had to fight in some comm squad battles for my first time this weekend so the hangar went back to it's better power rating for now, so will just start out with RPGs on the Shadow next time I load it up.
Speaking of... it was fun running the little killers. I kept the KS in for high level solo players... but only dropped it if needed. I may end up using Lancer Javs more regularly, too... there are a LOT of places to jump on top of and rain down Javs from. I am still too noob with it to make up my mind for sure, but I am leaning that way. And that damn MD keeps impressing me. I had the best games, lately, when running the Arc 10 + TL2 on it, of all things. *shrug

Serious bummer. Not only do I need 125k more credits to rank up and copy my Panther, I need 123 more blueprints, too. Credits I can rack up on a few days, but 123 blueprints? That’s gonna take awhile. Guess it’s be a race between Panther and SB12 to see who gets cloned first.

I had enough A Coins to get the BPs for mine... I am stuck collecting BPs for the Arc 10 though... holy crap they are rare.

So, I think I've made up my mind. I was thinking of saving my resources for when the new mech comes out, but you know what? You only live once and when the new stuff drops, if it catches my whimsy, I'm sure I'll get it eventually.
I'm gonna clone my Guardian and my RG and run 4 24EN mechs. They're going to be:
Thanos Guardian LA8/RG16 Leadhose Guardian dual CB12 Elsa Panther dual SB12 (maybe need a better nickname) Panther with MR8/RG16 (definitely need a nickname for this)
I could do this today, but will wait til next Monday to take advantage of the Dev Derby. I'll likely shelve my KS but bring it back whenever I feel the need for speed on CPC games.

Ok, I finally pulled the trigger: For the record, I did try the RG16 with the MR8 on the Panther for a while yesterday and while I like it, I think I still prefer my Panthers with CB12 or SB12 and my Guardians with Thanos. This last upgrade pushed my hangar past 3k SP, and my first match out of the gate in TDM was horrifyingly brutal. Don't know if that was because of my SP or because it's the first day of the Tournament. And honestly, now that I have it after hmming and hawing about it for weeks, I'm not sure I like it. I miss having my KS for those first couple of beacons in CPC, but at the same time, I do appreciate the extra firepower and can play my Thanos more aggressively because, hey, I've got a spare!

Although, yeah, I, personally, would def still have a KS or two in for CPC and switch out as needed for TDM... (but I have too much crap already and want to use it all lol)
Also, I have had an over 3k SP hangar for a while and still have to play a while before the competition creeps up to what I get when running Squads. AI, at least. I still don't get what they are doing there. I like having consistent, or close to it, enemies so that I am not lulled into complacency with 3 - 5 matches and then, bam, everything has Carbines and Zeps and Surges, etc. And being put into games where the other real player, on the Red side, is 1200 - 2000 SP is just not cool. Hopefully they really are working on MM and the right changes will happen before release.
Anyway, back to your hangar: man, that is looking solid. You are going to be, if not already, a force to be reckoned with... Nice work! (Grumbles under my breath while I still haven't gotten passed 160K XP, much less the 170+K needed for the RG.)
Do you feel like you have the RG figured out yet? Is there anything you wish you would have understood about it before getting it in order to use it correctly, or better?

Haha, I've faced your Shadow in the game and it's like fighting against myself! I would be tempted to clone my Shadow if I thought there was another build that is just as good as JR6 for it. For me, the next best build would be RPG6, but that just doesn't cut it in today's world.

I've got a handle on the RG16 now. The trick to it is to use it with a level head and steady hand. The first part works only about half the time for me, and as for the steady hand...well, that's why i prefer the Guardian for it over the Panther. Being slower make it easier to use the RG. If/when you get it, try to use it like LAs but at mid long range. Don't try for those uber far shots that maxmize the LA's damage. In my experience, you'll miss with the RG for those super long shots. Also, you want to NOT be moving when you fire - unless you're really good at leading your target. I know it's a bad idea, but I tend to be standing still and just aiming my torso when I'm shooting. I'll make the shot(s) kill my target and then move to cover while I reload. In a brawl, you can shoot while moving to a certain extent because your target is right in front of you. But, it's possible to miss even that close, especially if you're being pressed or kited. Another reason why I like Guardian is that I can stop a KS in it's tracks mid dash. You can't do that with a Panther.

Another reason why I like Guardian is that I can stop a KS in it's tracks mid dash. You can't do that with a Panther. I’m about the same with RG - very hot and cold. When it’s on, it piles up kills faster than I can count them. But when I’m off, I’m REALLY off and can’t hit squat. As far as aiming, I have a hard time rotating just the torso and hitting the fire button quick enough to make the shot. What I’ve had more success with is getting the sight lined up close to the target, and then fine-tune with side to side movement if the target is standing still, or wait for it to move into the target area. That’s probably why I’m still only getting about half the kills as many other players I’ve seen with it, and why that build is far from my top killer. I still tend to prefer the Thanos build on a Panther, mostly because I need that time behind the stasis barrier to line up my targets, which would leave the Guardian out in the open way too long. I’m finding the dual CB12s to be pretty effective on the Guardian, because of its fast reload, and I can be firing on an enemy while retreating to cover or getting it in range of the crash ability. Still working on the timing for stopping killshot dashes, though - goddamm AIs always manage to be just outside of its range, yet can still dash me from about 50m out.

That's the other part of why it's called the Thanos build... When I see that dot line up, my thumb SNAPs to the fire button in a move that is very similar to snapping fingers. Plus, my heart tends to skip a beat too.

Rule of thumb for Long arms and Railgun when at range, the space between the horizontal lines of the four corners of the lock box are guaranteed hits. Line up the angle for the lane you're going to peek and use movement to fine tune. Time the shots for when the vertical line on the center crosshair is in the break between the horizontal lines of the red lock box. Most of my sniper play has been using Paragon so I've gotten really accustomed to popping heads on the fly.
