(Mech Arena) Rants

if you haven't found it yet, there are a few set configurations for controls you can switch to, i think one is for tablets, and there is also a wide screen one. 

biggest complaint is how dumb some of the daily tasks are. Some of the worst ones are "Kill X number of bots from behind w/ Y", or "win MVP twice on X map", or "jump 30 times w/ Lancer, or "Get MVP X times with Thermal Lance", or "Take X damage".

second biggest complaint are the in-your-face deals everytime you open the app. Why the 「fluffernutter」 would I pay $15 for a skin that's purely aesthetic?

You know it's time to quit for the day when the AI constantly sends 2 or 3 2k reds and I am 1,4k with a bunch of 300's. FFS. No chance of topping my card today. Top guy on my card is only 500 rank and seems to make 300+ points per battle, I'm lucky to scrape 150 each today. Grrrrr. Its. Only. A. Game.

And another thing. I’?m getting really, really, really sick of getting skewered by 6 thermal lances on me all at once from out of nowhere. Friggin AI must have these things leveled to the gills, because they fry me in no time, and the ?gosh darn ? things seem to follow me around corners. I tried them once, and I never cooked an enemy with them like the reds cook me. Like chewing right through Jug’s armor like it doesn’t have any, burning up Killshot before I’?m even in weapon range, never mind dash range. Godforsaken things remind me of the early days of gekkos that would light you up from across any battlefield, only worse.

Yeah, I’?m in the middle of the receiving end of another one of those murder-fests. How can you tell. Between that and the near constant hang ups trying to start a game, I’m about ready to give this ‘game’ a little rest.

That was brutal. Some seriously heavy hitters in that game pretty much 1-shotted my whole hangar. At least we made up for it the next round.


I’m glad somebody else witnessed the carnage. That one was even worse than usual, though ... I though it was you that dragged those hoodlums in there.

Danny Linguini I feel you. I was being matched with real players who were much higher leveled than me this evening. Super frustrating.

I’ve had this happen a few times. Not cool to realize it’s a tourney game AFTER you’re in it. I try to flip it before I start inviting players, so they can know before accepting. Kind of a crappy thing to do changing it after you’ve assembled the team. 

Ya happened to me a couple of times during tourney, i just spent the match taking down health and shields, let blues get the kills

The AI is determined by match history, and total matches played. Progressing a hangar in this game is much of the same as fighting AI 2 ranks higher than you: Suboptimal play leads to a world of pain.

I've become fairly ambivalent towards the game, and the last two bricktext essays I posted really showed me how little fire it's carrying for me.

There's only casually playing,as in, extremely casual, paying into, or hardcore no-lifing this game.
Anything in between can lead to sorely punishing experiences. Any deviation from the absolute most effectient route is punished unless actions are taken to game the game outside of just playing it.


Playing more than the bare minimum only expedites the MM's progression. Playing with more than 3 mechs before having a playset near max exacerbates that due to oppurtunity cost.

Monetization sits at death by a thousand cuts and buy a deluxe edition complete game price points, with the handful of rank 3 items being the only thing in between. Even then, those item's resource cost makes up for their price point on the grander scale of things.

Resources are limited to a single game mode, in what basically amounts to attrition. The person going full potato on a mobile game for 10 hours a day always wins, which destroys progression for moderate or traditionally competetive gamers.

Better presentation than Pixo's skinner box, but more of the same song and dance.
I remember when I considered the absolute cost ceiling Y1/2 War Robots had for a max level hangar(about $300 iirc) obscenely expensive.

ᥣᵃᵛᵃʲᵃᵛᵃ I'm actually on a breather from my main account. Every "next step" for progress is $20+ of coins. Because I spent so much time getting ~literally everything~ resource acquisition doesn't keep up with the demand unless I no-life tournament. I played that way to say, definitively, what the pitfalls are and where the gatcha the game(and developers) would never admit to is, so peeps know what to expect and treat the pastime accordingly for where they stand.

My suggestion would be, stick to your favorite 3 mechs. The only reason the inditubers aren't constantly roflstompped by AI, lies in the dumb crap they do in their videos (and how many games they actually play like that for footage).
KSO and Omniverse average 2-3 bots a hangar unless they're showing off that day, and their videos depict AI that's weaker than what I normally run into on my main account.

I officially hate today’s tourney map. There’s crap everywhere blocking shots, but no good place to retreat to for cover. At least I can’t find one. I always seem to have the wrong mech/weapon combination. I just cannot figure this map out. Doesn’t help that it’s one if those days I’m outmatched every game and my teammates are morons. And I can’t field a team to save my life. So I’m generally placing 1 or 2 on my team, and earning 「dookie」 for it. And I even punted yesterday’s tournament, so I’m only in Expert today. I don’t get it. Days like this are just utter frustration - I need tourney match wins to earn some resources to either rank up or acquire gear, but I can’t because MM is 「fluffernutter」ing me up the 「bum-bum」 every game. GGGGRRRRRRRHHHHHH!!!!!!

Hey, don’t feel bad - besides doing that very same thing myself many times, I can’t figure out what combos work, either. On this game here, I think I put javs back on the Killshot, MRs on Juggy, and pulse cannons on Panther, because nothing else was working. I can’t hit crap with LA’s, so they’re back on the shelf. Ares is still R3, so that’s like shooting spitballs at battleships. Juggy with MR8’s was the most effective - hits hard long or close range, and can stand up the longest to the incoming fire from all directions, which is my biggest problem on this map that I can’t figure out how to deal with. Pulse cannons are good for maybe one kill before whatever is toting them gets wasted. Javs are next to useless, and Killshot, no matter what I arm it with, has been nothing more than another kill for the enemy. Reds just flank the crap out of me in every game, and forget about teammates playing like anything remotely resembling a team. 

I’ve had it with this crap today. Wherever I am now is where I’ll end up in this bracket (2nd now, but I know that won’t last the night), and we’ll see if I have any better luck tomorrow. I’m not counting on it, because my tournament games have been mostly garbage all week. My plan to earn the a-coins I need to purchase a set of carbines is not working out very well so far. In fact it’s not working at all. And I’m sure as crap not laying out the $$$ for them. Got a feeling I’m gonna be stagnating right where I am for a very long time, which is not exactly much of a motivator.
