My dream car is a reliable car with minimal electronics as possible. That way, nothing would break. Like a miata? Bwhahahahaha Exactly, regarding the first generation Miata (or MX-5 globally). Only electronics is like fuel injection, ecu and OBD-II. Which is a minimum in the environmentally militant state of California. I'd include the radio, but hell, it's starting to have problems. Volume control is outta whack. Anyone know how to fix this? |

WE034, that engine... my jaw drops every time I check this thread. ?? yeah man! I don't take it out as much as I should. My neighbor down the water from us has a classic Ferrari Testarossa and we tried them out on a straight away. I beat him off the line by a good bit but the top end on that thing is outta sight! And handles A LOT better. But then again, I can drive really fast on the beach?! |

Or just get a Hilux. Those things can cop a beating. I'm jealous ! I sooooo wishing we could get the Hilux in the US. In a previous life, we had them for work and they were awesome! Go over anything, through anything, and run on just about anything. |

Noreceipts, Oh hell yeah. Mid 90's was my entry into revheadland as a young teen, so I missed all the good years with the skylines and cosworths. Bathurst seems to have a 'State of Origin' (rugby event for those outside Aus) effect on the motorsport fans I've encountered. V8 Supercar championship? Who cares, Bathurst's where it's at. By the time I started driving Jap imports were splitting the revhead generations, so there was a LOT of rivalry and traffic light duels. My owning a Torana had a arrow and target effect, I couldn't cruise up to the cornerstore for smokes and milk without having some cannon hanging doofdoof blasting hot hatch trying to go me. Hehe... laters... sortof. I'm too young to of seen Bathurst during the 90's but I have an idea of what it was like |

Does anyone here still subscribe/read car magazines here? which one(s)? I get Car&Driver and Road&Track, prefer the former. I had about 6 years of C&D & R&T piled up in my office. My girlfriend talked me into letting them go... Thinking about picking it back up. |

So fave cars for me? Kinda too many to choose, but If I could have anything regardless of cost I'd say F12 tdf.
For my next car, I'm thinking RX8. Never had a rotary and they are getting affordable if you can find a good one. Or a later model E36 M3. Or if I find a good manual V70R...

Man, I was walking down the street in Barcelona off the plaza del sol one night about this time last year. Sitting on those narrow streets, what did I see? A real life, honest to goodness, in the flesh McLaren F1... seriously, just sitting there on the street. I tried to find the owner to see if I could beg a pic with it and maybe sitin it, but no joy.
Man it was beautiful. That's a dream car for me.
and I promis, no more threadjacking about jeepz??

Lewis Hamilton fan here (and a Juan Pablo Montoya fan before that). I hated Alonso because I hate Ferrari, and then when he whined so much at McLaren when Hamilton had such a great rookie season.... but then, in his last years at Ferrari, Alonso became my 5-year-old son's favorite driver (he was 2 at the time, and it was so cute having the "run around the bed" game where we'd pretend to be different F1 drivers). And then he left, and it was going to be so rich watching him as a backmarker at McLaren, but I just couldn't root against him anymore. Argh! Plus he and Hamilton patched up with this weird mutual admiration thing. ARGH! Ah well, I guess I still have Vettel to hate. stoopid ferrari. I would actually love to see Hamilton and Alonso as teammates again. Rosberg had such an inferiority complex, needing a mechanical DNF from Hamilton to snatch his WDC, and probably knew he didn't have the mental toughness to defend a title. Plus Hamilton's reputation never stood much to gain from beating him. Alonso would be very different, of course. My wife was the Montoya fan. I liked Kimi back in those days - that guy cracks me up. Agreed that Hamilton and Alonso at Mercedes would be a hell of a good thing to watch. Plus we would get to see that mutual admiration society crumble into dust by about race 5 I'd say. |

I used to dislike Kimi, but mostly because he made Montoya look bad at McLaren. I think he's hilarious nowadays (his radio transmissions at Singapore with Lotus, of course). And I so would like to see him beat Vettel. <sigh>

I like the hilux too. I see a ZPU-4 on the back of the one to the left. Quite a sight at night to see 4 barrels of 14.5 heading at you in green tracers... about like the Gekko; let you know juuuust where to call the 9line for the JDAM?  |

What do you off-road guys call those axle/diff kits with the off-centre hubs that raise your diff centre? I've always been fascinated by them (and as a street guy trying to lower things instead), but know nothing about them. Are they chain driven or something?

Don't know if this is what you're looking for, but the attached pic is for what they call a Rockwell or top loader axle. You can see they're gear driven. They come in 2.5 and 5 ton.   |
