If too many around now than wait and see what happens when the pads are cheaper towards the end of the event.
An effective counter that works on iOS is swiping up :-)

Remember when the Leech was meta? And everyone kept shooting it while it was in its ability? This went on for weeks and weeks after its release.
Well, this is similar. Stop shooting it while its in the ability. That will help.
