Nice! Talk to me about Ember! How does it perform and is it better than Arc Torrents? I The other benefit of the EG’s is the short reload time after you get zapped by a Guardian - I’ve surprised a few of them when I’m ready to light up again so shortly after being crashed. . I really, really want to try this against Guardians. I'm using cqc weapons more anyway these days. To pull a sneaky move on a sneaky Guardian? Yes!

Maxed the Onyx last night! I actually won this in a playoff event long ago at just 1-Star. Then they announced that heavy mech upgrade costs were going up with Gear Hub, and I used a lot of A-Coins to march it up to R6. Really disrupted my upgrade plans at the time. Anyway, once I hit R6, I waited for bps to naturally accumulate and then finally was able to do the last 550k upgrade while I could also get tokens for the PG10 gacha. Apparently the reward will only be 20 AC and 5k credits per token, which is meh, but still for 5 tokens I'll have 100 more AC than I would have otherwise. Ran into a couple players who really did well with Onyx RG16 in the FFA map Red Shift this weekend. That shoulder cannon can be nasty for dealing with reds holding higher ground. I'll be interested to try it next time around, which is almost heresy for me, since I'll have to ditch my Panther RG16. But I ran Onyx EMR12+16 for a while on Red Shift until I maxed my Gatecrasher, and I liked it, so it seems worthwhile.

Nice! So what weapons are you gonna run on it? I've always liked how the Onyx looked. It reminds me of the Warhammer mech from Battetech or Destroid from Macross. There are no "PPC" type of weapons in the game to complete the look but I love how the MG16 looks on the mech. You could almost visualize it as a Clan Warhammer with Ultra AC 20 on each arm.

Onyx definitely is one of the coolest looking mechs. My pre-War Robots mech exposure was a lot more limited I'm afraid (a bit of Mech Warrior and Robot Jox 😄) but yeah, that's the classic bad boy look! Tangentially, does anyone got any tips for figuring out if they're facing a Gatecrasher or a Bastion when the shield is down? I can rarely tell them apart. For now I am really only planning on running RG16 and HR16s on it, although I want to try MG16s as well, post-buff. I still need to get & level a Heavy Duty legendary pilot so my current setup is a bit too low on damage for my MGs. RG16s seem like the best direct fire weapon, and Onyx definitely seems like the popular and effective choice for HR16s. I only recently got my first HRs levelled (the 16s), so I'll finally really start practicing with those in CPC. But mainly I see Onyx as really for only a limited set of tourney and 2v2 maps. Between Panther, Gatecrasher and Guardian, I feel like I've already got the best CPC options for 16EN mechs.

I get bamboozled all the time between Gatecrasher and Bastion. Those two definitely have similar profiles and if you guess wrong, you're gonna be in a world of hurt.

Finally got Orion over the threshold. Should be useful to have it in the mix. Definitely gotten lit up by Orion snipers in FFA quite effectively.
With A-Coin earnings having slowed down, I doubt I'll be maxing another mech for a while. Nomad would be next but I have only half of the bps I need so far. For Hemlock it is only a third. 😕 I have enough to max Cheetah and Tengu, but neither is particularly strong and both would need to be ranked up several times.
Instead I am focusing again on weapons and pilots. Storm Rack 12 is my next priority. It looks like one of the strongest weapons in the game damage-wise, so I am interested to see how well it actually works. Helix Rack 12 and probably Nade 12 are the others, although once Pod Gun 12 is available for cheap, I'll be psyched to try it.

Nice! I would prioritize HR over NL. The recent buff to NL has increased it's effectiveness but HR's range and lock on still make it the better choice for open air maps. Where the NL excels over the HR is point blank engagements, so if that is your plan for it, then maybe prioritize it over the HR.
I don't rush weapon upgrades after I've cloned them so I tend to prioritize mechs over weapons.

With new weapons coming out, who knows if I'll even get to the Nades, but I have Impulse ready to go up to R5, the gold damage implant, and all the bps I need. And it seems like they might not be a bad replacement for Discs on some of the small 5v5 maps. I rarely rush weapon upgrades, but occasionally I do. Since you only need to get the up to R6 to double them, I usually have accumulated enough bps naturally by the time I get to them. But with a few standout weapons, like the EMRs, RG12s, Ember12s, it was worth it speeding them up a little.

Been a while since I maxed a mech. I feel like I've seen less folks playing Nomad since mods hit, but not sure why. Maybe I'm wrong - it's always seemed like a real pain to go up against.
Got lucky and got a slew of bps right at the end, so the final upgrade ended up being a lot cheaper than expected. Going to invest the savings into doubling my Nade 12s. I've been underwhelmed with Pod Gun 12s and I think it might make more sense to switch my Nade implants from Impulse (purple) to Lodestar (gold). PG12s only have 2 implants, while NL12s have 3, but I want to test it while we have free implant swaps. I haven't really played Nades and I know they are difficult to aim well. After that, I'll double my SR16s (already got a 2nd maxed SR pilot ready) and then I should be really cooking with gas! 🔥

Nice! I've always wished I'd picked up the Nomad. It's a mean beast. Instead, I went Vortex and it's just not the same. Oh well.
NLs take A LOT of learning. Here's a couple of tips:
- don't try for pin hole type shots....you will never hit - anything from 40m and under will need straight on hits - 50-65 is a bit weird and can go over low cover - 65m and up will go up and should not be tried for indoor maps - on maps with elevated ramps and such, try to get up high - not only can you see your targets better and get better hits, it's an absolute hoot! - for mechs on the move, aim in front of them but also spray a few shots to the other way in case they stop or run back the way they came - mechs that are sprinting towards you are hard to hit so wait til they get closer or start lateral moving - ditto with mech running away from you
As for implants, I use all three on Impulse but I just picked up Lodestar and on the next "upgrade pilot rank" task, I'll throw some acoins at him to raise him to at least my Impulse's current level.
NLs reload pretty fast so don't be afraid to go for the long shots. These days, it's a good way to strip away the multi layer shields and canopy shields. Up close, they tend to block your vision which is why I prefer to use them on Eclipse instead of Seeker or Surge.
As for mods on the Nomad, I don't have one so take this with a grain of salt...
I'm thinking the Hull implants and the single layer perimeter shield or the frontal shield would be best. Nomads are fast so are harder to hit with snipers so try to beef it up as much as possible against sustained damage weapons. As for choosing between multi layer and frontal shield, that's up to you...do you take most damage head on or from the sides and back from other blues? Personally, I think I would go with frontal and then also focus on the Hull and Galvanized Hull mods to help against the side and rear hits.

Sweet tips! Thanks Koalabear!! I just doubled my Nades and I actually stuck them on the Nomad, although I went with Eclipse for my 2nd "team match" hangar. I'm psyched to figure this weapon out. I'd like to play something with a little complication to it. I miss that since the DL nerf got rid back and side damage. That little extra issue of trying to avoid locking on while figuring out a good splash damage shot really added something to gameplay. Storm Racks have the splash but their weird spray aiming isn't something you can really control. Hopefully NLs will fill the void. I'm still not bothering with mods yet. I am planning to hold off for at least another month if not more. If we could switch them around and I could stick them on my older mechs like Paragon or Tengu, I would be really excited by them, but otherwise, my hangar SP is good enough for now.
