Hey guys, what's the best RAR file extractor? I've recently acquired a RAR file of Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries through some google-fu(I did not get it from myabandonware.com, don't ever trust third party download sites) and am looking to play it. What are the best options currently available? Please, no linking to badware infested download links. If you want to check your link for viruses, use Virustotal.

So you downloaded a discontinued game from an official server in RAR format? Something smells fishy here... If you're just looking to extract the files, any program should work equally well. I use winRAR. By the way is this where you got it?  |

+1 for WinRAR.. wow I haven't heard RAR in years! Nice find! I still have a cd of that. What's so cool is playing the Mechwarrior2 soundtrack while playing war robots.

I'm sure it's the digital backup a friend legally created from their own copy and is the only copy in use at this time. Sheesh. Give him some credit! ?
...but yeah, if you're on Windows, then WinRAR.

Basically winRAR have no real contestant out there. xD no reason not to use it. It costs though.

I once heard a joke that nobody pays for winRAR. Apparently no features are locked even after the trial version has ended? Also, can you provide a download link? I want to make sure I don't download from a virus infested site.

Decided to use 7 zip because winrar kept testing positive on my virus scanner.

winrar itself is clean and has been for years. However most of the "free" sites that mirror their downloads are not. Who knows what they are throwing in. If it is giving you a false positive from their site itself I'd question your virus scanner. At any rate 7zip is a better product.
