After verifying that I should replace my Magnums with Quarkers, I wondered if it might make sense to replace my Avengers with Nucleons. I run 2 Mk2 Avengers on an Ao Jun, which is a swiss army knife really. Used late in the game I go after Arthurs and Mings, but might also chase down T-Falcons and Lokis.
So I ran two tests. Level 1 Nucleon/Avenger vs. Falcon from 300m and 450m, and vs. Kid from 450m. Avengers were used with sharpshooter skill. Result: Somewhat inconclusive. I don't think I'll spend the 500mil to bring the Nucleons to similar levels (Avengers are 12.2 and 4.2).
Numbers. DPS were adjusted for DR. Falcon being a mid sized target, they will be higher against larger targets and drop against small targets. According to the Wiki, Avenger does 5,1k initial DPS and 7,6k with burst from point blank range. So this is also an Avenger accuracy test.
- Falcon: Avenger did 2,1k DPS from 450m, and 2,8k with burst. Nucleons did 6,3k/3,1k/0,3k (seconds 0-3, 4-10, 11+).
- Falcon: Avenger did 4,0k DPS from 300m, and 5,8k with burst. Nucleons did 6,5k/4,2k/1,1k (seconds 0-3, 4-10, 11+).
- Kid: Avenger did 5,1k DPS from 450m, and 6,8k with burst. Nucleons did 6,5k/4,5k/0,9k (seconds 0-3, 4-10, 11+).
So. Nucleons dominate in the first 3 seconds, especially from large distances. The next 7 seconds, Avengers win (pretty equal from 450m and better from 300m). And Nucleons are useless in overheat. So Nucleons are clearly better against normal robots, where we usually have a limited firing window until they get in transcendence, stealth or cover. 6,5k at level 1.1 translate into 22k at 12.2, a pair of Nucleons can deliver 132k damage in 3 seconds. Which is impressive and deadly. And Nucleons don't tie up a pilot skill.
But against titans, where I usually fire consistently for a longer time (at least with my Ao Jun), Avengers did a lot better after 3 seconds. And of course Avengers do double damage against Arthur shields. And since I value my Ao Jun as anti-titan weapon, I guess I'll stick with the Avengers.
Notes. Avengers didn't reach 50% additional damage in burst mode from 450m, damage increased by 33% (almost exactly) after 3 seconds. Not sure what the deal is here, do they lose accuracy? A silent nerf? Burst was close to the predicted 50% from 300m. Ah well.

Avengers have had a long run at the top and they still do alright but..... The 10 second reload is the kicker here.
All the new guns coincide very well against Ravanas transcendence and have pinpoint accuracy from 500m away in early fire against fast moving bots.
Nothing new here with Pixo prompting us in the direction of the new crap.... again!
Next to hit the nerf hammer will have to be Scourge/Spark as they have never had a nerfing and they still dominate higher level play.

I mentioned this before, but against non arthur targets, my 1.9 nucleons are better than 2.6 avengers

I guess it will be much easier to manage the cooldown, and you're not a sitting duck when you're reloading. If I didn't have my Avengers, I would upgrade my Nucleons, no question. But as I do have them, I'll continue to focus on other changes that will improve my hangar more. Another consideration is my titan. If it was stronger, I might rely less on my AJs to fight enemy titans.
Maybe I'll work in one Nucleon as replacement for my l4.2 Avenger at some point. But not before I got my hangar to mk2, and replaced the Mags on my Blitz with Quarkers.

I mentioned this before, but against non arthur targets, my 1.9 nucleons are better than 2.6 avengers From a DPS standpoint, they shouldn't be. Maybe due to the Avenger bug, that still seems to rob us of some damage?

Next to hit the nerf hammer will have to be Scourge/Spark as they have never had a nerfing and they still dominate higher level play. I’m hoping the recent increase in upgrade (Ag) costs to the scourge and spark means that both are fairly safe from a nerf. We,never, know from Pix though.

Scourge did have a minor nerf in the 4.2 update, -6% damage. I also agree that the scourge is likely safe from a nerf but the spark may be due.
