Sure, we keep saying that Pix should throw a sale or two, but I can't be the only one who thinks that this latest "special" is more than a little stupid. It also shows just how overpriced the cash items are.

Totally correct. What are they thinking? And a Griffin sale? c'mon.... They would make money hand over fist if they did $7.99 orkan, $24.99 Lance, $4.99 Aphids. 25% off gold, even.
Hand. over. fist, I says. This sale? Who care?

I personally think their lack of business savvy makes this game great

I think they're hoping some level 10 noob pays $24 for a taran because they haven't unlocked it yet.

$24 for a taran is just plain idiotic, considering that the fury sold for 28 dollars in a previous sale. There's no way a taran is worth nearly as much as a fury, and a 59.99 "original price" isn't going to trick anybody. Sometimes I think Pixonic seriously needs to get an economist on their War Robots team, because their lack of business savvy is seriously making them miss some fantastic monetization opportunities.

I wonder how they got to the $59.99 original price for the taran. Wsp takes some silver and time (To get enough wsp to buy a taran at max lab lvl will take 11 days and 3 million silver) but it doesn't feel as hard as grinding out gold....$60 of gold is 7700....in those same 11 days, you'd have to make over 700 gold a day...that is a lot of matches. Just some weird valuations on Pixonics part.

I also saw that and laughed, but then I thought, the smart thing to do from Pixonic's point of view is to charge/offer different prices to different players (i.e., price discrimination). If they get any takers at $24, that was a good price to charge them. Later on, they can still offer discounted prices just to the players who didn't take the offer. Keep making the discounts bigger and bigger until the player bites.
This way, they will have charged the maximum possible price they could have to every individual player. The downside to this tactic is if word gets around, angering those who took the $24 price and creating an uproar.
But I wouldn't have offered $24 to everybody, just the players who had showed a willingness to pay money. For players who haven't paid anything, the $24 price is practically an insult to their intelligence.

I think the 'original price' is gotten from how much gold it would take to "buy" enough WSP to get it. Not an actual relative value to, say, something like a Fury. I don't know the progression of Au cost for buying the WSP with gold, so I can't calculate it and confirm.
Discounts on items that people normally pay for would make more sense... like Au. Even 25% off would entice many players who normally don't buy it, to do so. If they do offer WSP items for real money, it should be affordable... or what's the point? They priced themselves out of the market this way, as we can already get it for 'free', in terms of real money.
One thing that they could do that would possibly be an indirect way to get people to buy gold is to have an in game cost sale... make things cost a little less gold for a 24 hour period. If they had a "sale" that cut the Au cost of upgrade speedups, for example, I know I would prolly throw down on at least the 10$ gold option, and farm the crap out of some silver. Do that, say, quarterly, and it could potentially impact the gold sales substantially.
@pgi, no way that price discriminating would work in a mobile game like this. Word would absolutely get around, and the unhappiness of the community would be great. Plus, and I am guessing here, but I think coding in something that took note of who bought what and continually offering them sales until they bought am item would be too much. Especially when there are things like firearm buffs that have not happened yet... they don't need another distraction from the important stuff!
