Ok, so is the upcoming Trident nerf getting anybody down? I admit, I was bummed out about it. I didn't realize how much I'd come to rely on my TT Fury for being one of my biggest damage dealers and kill stealers. So...what's a guy to do? Well, I had a few OE Tempests lying around, and sped them up to L9. Yeah, this is NOT my Fury, but heck, it was faster and easier than taking a snapshot of my own boring Fury! Even at L9, 3 Tempests can really put on the hurt. Maybe not as much or as fast as Tridents, but heck that extra range really helps, and gawd help anyone you catch out in the open!

In the thread on silver payouts I posted my recent damage and I've made some of my highest damage matches since the nerf running my lvl12 Mk1 Tridents. I've noticed they don't splash through walls as well on Castle and I have to be a little more accurate, but still devastating, awesome(cheap) weapons. I envy your Tempests though. I gotta hide from them, and so cool looking.

Yuck. Tempests are crap, sadly. Respectfully, I disagree. TTemp Fury is quite a beast and I very much enjoy them on a my ember falcon. I find them well matched to the falcon fangs out cooldown and excellent at suppressing various 600m bots on long maps. In a pinch they work for brawling support, especially when you opponent is reloading, lol. That said, I do admit that I don’t run them on a fury. Too boring to dedicate full time on a bot. That’s why I like them on falcon. There when I need em, but w ember as one of my few mk2 weapons, I don’t need the fangs out for decent brawling.

Watch out for my Nashorn Fury. She's a beast at kill steeling. There's something incredibly fun with the one shot blam style of play every now and again.

With the meta shifting to HP/stealth/purple shields the tempests just got left behind. If they were marginal to OK at release than they would have to be sub par today. I put them on the falcon (ember in the middle) because that was my best available heavy option. They are sort of OK for area suppression (fury way better), annoyance from distance and also taking pop shots from the distance when there isn’t much time left and cant get close enough to engage the target. Still new to the falcon but in a brawl if it goes fangs out with tempests it dies really fast. I’d rather have something that unloads as fast as possible when he brawls. Tempests need a buff. That would supress the tridents. But then mid and longish range would dominate.

Nothing has been implemented yet. Pix proposed changes, then went back on some of them but nothing made it beyond test server. And in the latest iteration tridents keep the power but lose splash range.
My preference would be to nerf the heck out of anything with range of 600m and more because the game is becoming too stagnant with some people camping in the same spot game after game. But of course nothing in Pixo land is so simple anymore; now that you have ares and magic Chinese bots you need long range in some leagues to balance those.

IIRC, the nerf to the Trident is only a splash radius nerf. Pretty sure the damage is being left alone. Just make sure your aim is good, and Tridents should be good as they are now.

This game should shift into brawling side by nerfing most of its 600+ range weapons, or I wouldn't say nerf, but modify, lower the continuous damage and maintain or even increase the burst damage, but vastly decrease aiming precision which makes the long range bot users truely skilled snipers instead of campers.
And on the brawling side they should vastly increase the bots HP in general, supplement every single bot with equal level of ability(ies), instead just a few to make meta op bot sales. Weapon wise the brawling weapons should stay continous damage like instead of high burst, even if it has high burst it should stay below the long range weapons, thus to maintain balance between brawlers and long range snipers damage role wise in general.

Eventually, I’ll have a couple of Exo in the fangs, but too much to upgrade first. Until then, tempest will occasionally be available for annoyance and suppression. Also fun to launch at center Yaman beacon, tempests a-blazing just in time to fangs in on landing and ember lights up. And the graphics of jumping tempest fire is almost worth the price of admission all by itself.

Pix is nerfing the Trident because its cheap and they want people to spend money on the Avalanche when it comes out. Part of the Trident's strength wasn't the damage, but the splash and it's ability to chase people out of shallow cover. We all know how annoying yet effective the tactic of corner shooting. Someone with a MkII maxed something on one arm can stick that arm out with impunity. Rockets prevent that from happening. I remember one Champ game where EVERYONE did that. It was so boring. TDM is full of people doing that too. I can't fault it because I do it on occasion myself, but you need an effective counter for it. Sure, after the nerf, Tridents will still be able to do that, but it won't be able to hit people hiding just around the corner and it likely won't be able to hit people behind walls anymore. I think I'm ok with that, except that I bet the Avalanche WON'T have that problem at all.
I think I'll run the Tempests for a while and see how it goes. I do wish I had another Falcon (and might grind for one in the future) because it's such a fun bot and I can see how the Tempest fire time and reload synchs well with the Falcon's ability. I can even see someone being tricked by the centre Tempest firing, waiting for it to run out, and then run out of cover only to be hit with 2 more Tempests - I do that all the time with my Dragoon Falcon BTW and it's always hilarious.

I might be in the minority, but cheap to get or not tridents were borderline cheating, dragoon like damage plus splash? 20m was too much, tulumbas splash is actually very good and usable so tridents will still be good with that splash radius, you just have to aim now instead of firing backwards and still splashing them "its an exageration I know" On tempests I think avengers in general are more useful but tempests have their perks, theres few weapons with over 600m range that are even remotely viable.

You may laugh at tridents but it was the only weapon for F2P players having hard-point bots. Thunder is obselete and all the component weapons cost 50-90mil to make. We don't even have enough silver to upgrade buts let alone craft weapons.
Before anyone here smart enough to answer like " i make 10mil per hour" get a life and play only 3-5 game per day and then brag about your silver stash.
It's unfortunate that its getting nerfed but as a rule of life- every good thing comes to an end.

Tridents at 32m to 12 were severely outperforming Dragoons which cost 170m to get to 12. A simple nerf to the splash makes the weapon just as deadly in a skilled pilot hands and less noob-friendly.

I leveled them to 11 and put them on a Fury. They were never what we thought they would be. I have a Falcon that is midway leveled(lvl 8 I think). I never finished the bot because I never could think of a really good "fangs out" setup. I may try a couple of the Tempests. Fangs out in a brawl is a dead Falcon, but I could use them until I get to the brawl.

In retrospect they were both terrible by todays standards, but were fine then. But the problem in todays meta is you need to do SERIOUS damage QUICKLY or else it's just a waste of time, and sadly that's where tempests sit now
I do love my 1x Avenger/2x Exodus Falcon.

I remember getting 1 salvo killed without ever seeing where the fire came from cause it was so far away! Anyway, a lot of back and forth in this thread. I don't mean to disparage the Trident. It is, and will continue to be, a very good weapon. But, guys like me, well, I didn't get to run a TT Fury until very recently, so I feel bummed out about the upcoming nerf and the soon to come Avalanche. I started this because I realized that I still hadn't run the Tempest Fury yet, despite getting chewed up by plenty in my time. I'm really liking this build, despite my lateness to it. Heck, I even had a silly Bulwark try to challenge me. I guess he got tired of me chewing away at him and his buddies on Yam. He walked right up to me and my Tempests riddled him. Silly boy! There's also comparison to Avengers, but there's one thing that Tempests have over Avengers other than range or damage per shot, and that's time. Yes, reload is the same, but if you play a Tempest build right, you should have plenty of time to reload behind cover. Whereas, whenever I play my Leadhose builds, either Lance or Nat, that 10s reload feels like an eternity because I'm in brawling range of tons of high DPS weapons. Don't sell the Tempests short. They're still viable, and remember the old War Robots axiom. 1 weapon = meh. 2 weapons = good. 3 weapons = very good. 4 weapons = uber powerful. 8 weapons = well you get the idea.

Yeah they were quite irritating. I remember when 5 of them would spawn at the same time on Canyon and just lock everything down. The fix for the double damage that splash items were making to Anciles and the resulting rise of the Ancilots helped that, a lot... but yeah it was a pretty ridiculous time.

I treat the Tridents like tank cannon (in fact, I've got one on my Leo because it looks really tanky) and aim for direct hits as much as possible. Splash damage is one of those nebulous things that I don't tend to count on but it's a nice side effect. I guess that's why I'm less bugged about a splash nerf.

But half of what makes the Trident what it is is the fact that you can hit someone 620m out, or around corners, or can lead a moving target and don't have to hit them dead on to hurt them.
Personally, I'd rather them put the old firing mechanic back on it and leave splash where it is. No one expected a Heavy Tulu and applauded the Trident change because it made it closer to the Tulu in behavior. No one expected them to then change the splash... That 20m splash was the main reason to use the Trident over the Tulu... that and the extra 110m of range (Tulus/Avalanche - 500m + 10m Splash vs 600m + 20m). The range alone isn't going to make most folk choose the Trident if they can use the Avalanche and get more bang for the shot. Which is why this change happened now.
IMO. YMMV

Trust me, when i started playing 3 years ago, TT Furies ruled the roast. They had 30m splash, and there was nothing to counter them. No dash, no stealth, and Anciles were busted. Also, all bots were super slow. Only way pros killed one was to go in with a well timed slow-poke Tulumbas Griffin, and jump in. Try that on a large map like Canyon with no good cover, and red team has 2-3 TT Furies with good cross fire. Tridents are cheap, and super fast to upgrade. They are the weapon of choice for krill. Dragoons are for the hoity toity, and those weapons hit like a truck. Nerfing it would leave the underclass without a good midrange option, as there's no way I'm gonna spend 3 months to level 3 Dragoons, and 6 for MK2. All the other component options are in the same tier, meaning all the upgrade times are TOO DAM HIGH! (like viper) There's so many options to counter it, i can't believe people are still complaining about it like it's 2016. Anciles, dash, stealth, etc. Also, Tank bots, Bulwark, invincible shields, etc.

I've gotten better with the TT Fury, learning new tricks and spots on maps to use it. Even after the silent nerf (which no one still knows about), I could use it just as well if not better. The Tulumbas splash is 20m, not 10m. Tridents had a silent nerf from 30m to 20m. I think shortly after Dragoons came out to juice the sales. Some proof of the 30m radius and people still getting it wrong recently. war-robots-forum.freeforums.net/thread/31022/sufficient-level-tridentswar-robots-forum.freeforums.net/thread/29656/trident-dragoon-fury-metaYes, that means the Tulumbas and Tridents have the same splash radius for a year now. (yeah for silent nerfs and misinformation!)
