Not much love for the Golem?

I enjoyed my Golem a lot. It's a great bot, but the Golem is seen as versatile whereas at higher levels you tend to have more specialised bots.

Enjoy your Golem before you feel the pressure to replace it. :-)

Yes, you may be able to sneakily shoot the Gareth's medium and light around a corner, but it's tougher than in the Golem where the hardpoint is a long way from the body. People talk about corner-shooting with a Galahad too, so that may be an upgrade from your Golem... but it's 2,500 Gold. As you progress, there will be more splash damage and pilots get better at using it, as well as at spotting you, so corner shooting may not be as effective as at lower levels.

The Golem used to be tougher and faster. Its a great setup, it just needs to be able to handle what the Boston can. We call the Boa "the toaster", of "toaster of death" Tough bot, but that extra hard point on the golem, makes it more versatile - well in theory. Now it just gets blown to bits. Best keep em. MM could always change,........again

Shahmatt , Dude you really got to settle down. How your upgrading and equipping your bots. 3 weeks and you have a lvl10 golem with an ancile? You are a little out of step. Back up and take a breath. Rethink, where your at. This is a long term game, with a time investment involved.

Slow your roll. You will enjoy the game much more, be evenly matched with opponents.

The Trident Pin Tulumbas Golem is a really nice midranger. Have a leveled one in my hangar.

Listen to Old Man dude.. And not just because he's older than Methusala, either... Heh heh. When i first started playin War Robots i had no clue on how to upgrade and maintain a balanced hangar. Or how the process and end results affected the MM. I juiced my Golem, Mr. Herb McNasty up to level 11.. While the rest of my crew were all in the 5, 6 and 7s. Threw ery'thing sideways. Landed me in the shark tank with the great whites. And i wasnt much more than a goldfish. So listen to Old Man. I mean.. Yea, he smells like prunes, mumbles incessantly about the great depression, and how awful it was to witness first hand the Hindenberg crash. But he is wise in the ways of the Robots...

The Golem is quite unique in that it is the only bot I know that upgrades in 4.5 days all the way to level 12. You can get it to 10 in less than 3 days, that's less time than it takes another robot to get to level 7. I didn't check all bots, but I think Vityaz came in second with 9 days, and all other bots were 15 days and more. So yes, it is feasible to upgrade the Golem to a very high level early.

As for the OPs question, the thing is just that other robots are better and the Golem has no special thing going for it. I run a pet account where I decided a few days ago that I will run an old style medium hangar there, and I do run it with 2 Golems (Rocket Golem and Thunder Taran Magnum Golem), along with 2 Boas (Thunder Taran, Thunder Orkan) and a Plasma Gary. But if you look more closely, there are just better options for everything a Golem can do  (I'll stick mostly to silver and WSP stuff here):

• Brick fighting: Even the Boa is better for that, Leo has more firepower and more HP than a Golem.
• Plasma/close range or DB setup: Plasma Griff and DB Griff are better than Golem.
  
• Mid range setup: RDB Griff and Trident Pin Natasha are both better than rocket Golem
• Sniping: Natasha has more firepower and more health.
• Corner shooting (since you mention it): Galahad is way better at that, plus it's faster and has the physical shield.
  Yes, it's a gold robot, but it's way up on the gold purchase list.
  

The extra speed of the Golem doesn't make up for all that. Griffin and Leo get to 35, and Natasha is a long range bot anyway.

frunobulax I was as nice as I could be with the OP, I read his entire post, looked at all facts presented in that post, then disseminated all of that to my response. Somebody had to say it. 

No one else up to that time had said anything about the entire post, only golem. I saw an opportunity to perhaps help him and enhance his game experience.

Yes, there are better bots. 

BUT, at the same time... if you like the damn thing and want to run it... then do so. The basic setups are still really good (TOP, Rocket, TTM,)... and as a bubble popper build... Thunder, Punisher, Punisher Mk 2, it might just have a niche. Sure, you could do that with a Leo... but if you have a Golem already leveled high, or, if, again, you just like the damn thing, try it! Would have to stick with a team mate that has an ancile too, prolly, but even a Fujin's regen wouldn't be able to fight that onslaught of bullets enough to regen.

I may be a bit off the beaten path with my approach to War Robots now that the leagues and ELO are here, *ahem, see the Natty Zeus Punisher in my hanger now*, but I am still finishing top or close to top in the matches I am in. If all you want is High Damage... look elsewhere. But, if you like to run setups that seem, God forbid, fun, then Hell yeah, do it! I do! If I had to only run DBs and TT Furies to play, I'd quit, personally. The variety is keeping me playing in the small time I have left in the day to play, since RL got more hectic. And, for some reason, MM seems to work better for me this way. Maybe it's because I don't do as much damage as I could that I am staying matched with folks that have very similar league ranks and weapon levels... IDK. Either way... fun is what makes the damn game a game. If it's a chore, then it's not a game. IMO.

As to the premise of a Golem being played like a Boa?  Not me.  I use the Boa as a tough little brick-fighter or as a beacon assistant... either pinning down the defender of a contested beacon or taking it outright, sacrificing it if need be to turn that thing blue.  The HP begs you to use it.  Maybe I'd say the Boa is like a battle axe and Plate armor.  Golem is more of a Spearman in Leather armor.  Good damage but needs that front line of shield warriors to hold position.  Weird analogy I guess... but I think it gets the point across.  After recently playing a lot of non-meta builds I have to admit to not trying the Golem.  I will do so now after reading this, and if I get anything good from it, I will post here!  I have to say, that Phoenix skin is one of the best in the game... My silly self will prolly use one just for the skin lol! 

To close, most don't use it because it isn't a bot you will likely use to get max damage nor will it be very viable up in TT.  If either of those are your goal, then you need to look past the Golem.  BUT, if you like variety, this is a bot that is still able to be utilized according to its strengths and net you a good result if also played with an awareness of its weaknesses.

Thanks for the advice. I assure you I'm not rushing through the upgrades. When I joined 3 weeks ago it was the Chinese New Year celebrations over here and there was a lucky dip thing going on. At the time I only had the Destrier I think. I got lucky and WON a Golem. Since it was the best bot I had at the time I stuck to it and just kept upgrading. As Andunedhel has first said it didn't take much to upgrade and I didn't feel like it was a burden on my resources.

I don't think I spent any gold until I got the Ancile. For some reason this upgrade doesn't seem to get much love either, but I guess at the levels I'm playing at it's been pretty useful, in particular against Hydras.

My built was inspired by another forum post where a player described an Ancile-Taran-Magnum Golem that had somehow managed 16 kills. I don't even know if that's possible, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I then bought the Leo and just a few days ago a Gareth. The Leo does as well as my Golem in damage delivery, but I find its slow speed and unsubtle attack tiresome, and so for the larger maps I tend to just go with the Golem. My Leo setup is mainly for heavy impact ambusg and it does pretty decently though does not last long. The Golem is still a bit weak in open maps and this is why I bought the Gareth - I thought speed would be helpful.

You are probably right about the fourth slot. The next bit of gold goes there.

Indeed it does appear as though the Golem is at a disadvantage. However, on the corner reach, it seems to me that it is wider than all the other bots. Wider than even the Galahad, for whatever that's worth, though it is a futile comparison.

Firetrucking TT furies and to some extent firetrucking Trident Carnages. Even when you are not corner peeking the splash is so bad it still gets you.
