I won a Boa a few days ago from the bronze box. It's still mothballed. I thought it was just too ugly but you guys' nostalgia is giving me new appreciation for the 'toaster'. I want to try it out. What's the best setup?
I still run my Boas every now and again... it's fast enough and agile enough to be able to out maneuver bigger bots (like its big brother, Lance, or its uncle, Leo).
The "best" setup is dependent upon the person you ask.
In the past it was the
TT (Thunder Taran) people vs the
TO (Thunder Ork) group. I tend to think either is fine depending on how you play him:
If you like to get close and to surprise and kill, o.w.k.a. ambush tactics... TO is better.
IF you like to sit at 350 and peck at folk outside of their Ork range with the Taran, try to run as a pack and move
with some teammates to engage it is a great Anchor or Flanker... either one, and you want to try to help perforate Anciles with the Thunder from a distance, TT is better.
Now, there are even more options.
ThunderStorm -- For when 100m away is too far away.
Thunder Pun-T -- Early League will see a few of these... it's not too bad of an option, would be a good one to use to test out whether or not you wanted to put Griff's Ork on it.
Thunder Scourge -- Would mostly be relying on the close-in damage of the scourge and Thunder. Would be lacking at any other range, much like the ThunderStorm.
I haven't ran an Ember setup yet so no thoughts on it but here are the options I would expect folk to use:
Ember Storm Ember TaranEmber OrkEmber PunEmber ScourgeMaybe even the Tempest could get in on it...
Tempest Molot-T -- to be used as a mobile, high HP, Sniper harasser. Not amazing damage output but not bad, either. Would be very situational, however.
Tempest Scourge -- not a fan of mixing damage types if it is Energy and Balistic, but both are really good at 350m - 450m. And the Tempest will stay that good if you have to get close while the Scourge will just do even more damage. However, I don't expect many folk to like this as it takes camper and rush tactics and marries them. Prolly not gonna be all that effective.
Tempest Tulumbus -- This may be a pretty good harassment MR build if you have everything leveled enough and play a very sneaky game.
Tempest Punisher-T -- I don't know if it would do as well as the Lance of the same build but it would play similarly to the Scourge build... and will be pretty damn decent against Anciles.
But, I don't think many would try the Tempest builds. Most people look at Boa as a
get-in-their-grill-and-punch-'em-in-the-mouf kinda bot. Hence... the Thunder as the overwhelmingly, most often seen, weapon.
