I will try to refrain from ranting but I am very disappointed in my first month of playing War Robots. My first frustration is with matchmaking. I first saw advice saying not to level up your bots, but when I switched and rolled with all level 1s I saw no difference in the levels of my opponents. I am a silver 1000 and was recently paired against a 6k player in one of my matches. I'm consistently paired with higher than 3k players. The point being... if I know I'm going to get dominated by top players why would I even bother with the grind of gathering silver/gold when the top spots will always be taken? That leads to my second frustration which is also a question...is the grind worth it? The game play is spectacular when it is a level playing field but I have no idea how good I am when higher level players are grabbing all the glory. Not enough resoruces leads to very slow upgrades. My 3rd frustration is the recent delays or bugs regarding trying to get a match. First few weeks have been no problems but now all the sudden I can't even get to play without a long delays. Then when finally paired, Frustration 1 takes effect.

First off, welcome to War Robots!
You aren't alone with your frustrations with the MM. Many of us are for many of the same reasons as you. I can tell you that play in Diamond+ (especially Expert+) gets a good bit better where you do have better odds vs the higher league hangers. In general, though, the MM issues are what they are. I'm skeptical that Pixonic will do anything about it any time soon. Either you accept that there will be imbalanced matches on occasion or you don't. I certainly can't blame that don't; it is a very frustrating situation that we all suffer with.
Regarding slow upgrades, it'd be helpful if you posted a screenshot of your hanger with weapons displayed. As a general comment, weapon and mech upgrades do get longer as they climb levels. It takes that long (or longer) to accumulate the needed silver to pay for your next upgrade. That's one reason that a number of people just pick a given weapon/mech level and stay there.
As far as the delays in finding a match, that's not something I experience. My longest since the new patch is about a minute and a half. What device are you using?

I think you got into the leavers queue. So you get to play with champion players and long delay in waiting for matches.
You should be fine again after getting out of it.
And yes I agree with you the match making sux for war robot. And pix is refusing to fix it

I see you are in leavers queue I was in there too. It's very bad place full of tankers. Just don't quit game while battling only quit when you are meched out.

Try to level your hangar evenly, weapons 1st. On my 2nd account I'd get all light weapons to one lvl, then all mediums, then all heavies. Once I got them all to 8 I brought bots up to Lvl 6, then back to weapons.
It does take a lot of time and silver, so you might want to stick to bots with fewer weapon hard points. For example, it takes a long time and a lot of silver to upgrade a hangar full of Leos and Griffins, since they all have 4 weapons each.
Also, try ro stockpile as much silver as you can. You will need far more than you think as you get into the upper levels. For example, upgrading an Ancile from 11 to 12 costs 31 million silver. Save up!

Others have referenced you may be in the leavers queue (or LQ). Lots of threads here about what that is, but essentially it's a separate grouping for players who leave (or skip) too many matches after they start but before the player has done "enough" activity. If you get a battle on a map you don't like and you leave - and do that too many times you get put with other players who do that in order to get resources faster. Unfortunately Pix does not communicate this very well so often newer players get put there without knowing. Search for LQ here in the forum to learn more about It and how to get out.
Now, it's not certain this is the reason for your experiences because you list things many players are frustrated with. LQ just makes it worse. Unfortunately even in regular play you will face players higher than you. And maxing your gear takes a really, really long time. Most with 12/12 weapons and bots have been playing a year or more. And even once you max your hangar the MM will still challenge you by giving you teammates who are lower level.
But you can play this game without paying (just takes longer to progress) and over time you learn how to counter and handle the match ups. And as you said the gameplay can be terrific at times. If you can maintain through the first few months it gets better and the games become more competitive (often new pilots are too good too fast, so they move up leagues fast and face over-leveled competition). There are all kinds of great tips and helpful pilots on the forum to help make it through, so you're in the right place - welcome!

What is this "tactic"? As far as I am aware, the only way to get out of leaver queue is to not leave. That is, play through to the end in a bunch of games, and not quit once battle is joined.

Thanks to everyone that responded. I was blown away by the huge light you just shed over me because I never knew anything about this infamous LQ. I thought I was being smart by choosing all melee style weapons and skipping maps that favor the long range ones but apparently this had a complete opposite effect and put me in the Phantom Zone....errrrr LQ.
acdcfan, Yes, the one player I faced was 6k and was in the #5 clan in the world. I don't know the league symbols but it had a cool lion on it lol.
Sgt. Fury 24/7, your leveling tips was the same advice I saw on YT and I presumed it to be wrong but now I can make sense of it and follow that advice.
I will now search the LQ and see what I can do, thanks boys.

My frustration is when so much trebs and gekko on enemy team. Very annoying when got hit by trebs and gekko.

I would suggest you to buy another Griffin and get a pair of Tarans. PDB Griffin is one of the best builds that always guarantee consistent high damage output. I also don't recommend to use Zeus Leo when you only have lv.6 stuffs, use it only after you have 5th hangar and lv.9~10 Zeus. So my recommended hangar for you will be: 1. Thunder Leo with Pinatas 2. PDB Griffin 3. RDB Griffin 4. Thunder Natasha with Punishers or Thunder Leo with Punishers. |

It's an outrage how Pixonic treats new players. After all, they would be their main source of income.
LQ is strictly an in-house problem, they introduced a "new, improved" matchmaking that made things a lot worse, because it encouraged tanking. To combat tanking, they introduced LQ. Now LQ is heaven for tankers (easy gold there), while honest players suffer, often because they don't know about LQ.
And all they had to do to solve this was to go back to hangar based matchmaking, which had a few warts, but those would have been easy to cure.

Silver League is a nightmare.
I chose to upgrade weapons rather than mecha. The extra damage, with lower armour gives greater Silver returns because Repair costs are kept low .. and that's really where the crux is. If you purchase Premium, you can earn 180-240k per Match easily in Silver League. Returns diminish as you upgrade, regardless of League, though. You'll need to do exponentially greater damage with stronger weapons if you wish to maintain a good Silver return, if you have high-level equipment.
Pixonic has opened up the MM because "Tankers" have deliberately manipulated their Score and this has inflated both Silver and Bronze League(s). It's a vain attempt to have high-level Players engage high-level Players, regardless of Standing(s). It's a novel idea but hurts honest Players.
I was stuck in Silver for 3 months with more than 1300 Wins, at the time. I know exactly what you're going through. The Matches become easier in higher Leagues but the Players are worse - no teamwork like Silver League. So, you're not missing much lol

As proposed above, I would ditch natasha and go with two leos (thunder pinatas, and or thunder punisher), an rdb and plasma griff, until u gather more resources. And save gold for 5th slot. And play until u leave LQ, game will become more normal then  |

Silver league players cant cooperate. you will be frustrated b/c you are still in silver / bronze and trying to rambo. War robots is not a 'twitch reflexes' game. its populated, for the most part with robots that move as fast as a grandma with a walker. its more of a chess game. First move is random, following moves unit placements are calculated. the team that wins is the team that places their pieces in the correct order. |

my journey from newbie to casual player was fun. from cossacks, to destier brawls, to golem and leos up to high tier gaming.
If played normaly? it is fun, challenging ,and learning curve is moderate. You are having this problem because you leave matches.
just upgrade weapons and bots when necessary, and just play. Silver weapons can compete with gold weapons. and if youre stingy like me 5K gold is just 3 months. and 750 gold for gekko is just like a week. And dont be in a hurry for higher leauges. If you are outclassed, the mm will just do the tanking for you.

Pix REALLY needs to let new players know about the LQ. It must be utterly baffling, and must put so many players off the game.

Don't sweat it too much. Just play til you mech out and then start another battle. Rinse and repeat. Don't think of it as grinding either. Think of it as learning to use the different bots and weapon set ups. Look here for good setups. When I got back into the game, I found so much useful information here about how to build bots. Before, I was just hot dogging it. One thing I would advise about bot set ups is to NOT do the swiss army knife setups. This means, don't put too many weapon types on one bot. Go with same weapons or weapons with similar ranges. You have a thunder pinata Leo. Change your other Leo to a thunder punisher Leo. A thun/pun Leo is an excellent team player bot that does well hoofing it alone too.
Also, I would get a second Griffin and put your magnums there. Once you have enough WSP, then get 2 tarans. As others have mentioned, this is one of the best bot/set ups in the game. Until you have enough WSP for 2 tarans, put 2 punisher mk2's. The Magnums have infinite ammo, so even with punisher/magnums, you can do what many of us do: mash the big red button and not have to worry about the different weapon ranges.

But Gold was a piece of cake compared to Silver. Silver is a world of frustrations, to say the least. If you do what you should do, like care about beacons, you'll never get out because your idiot teammates will mess it up and you end up low in damage because your teammates go only for damage. Or you get picked up by a 11/12 Treb Fury on an open map. If you are not clubbed by a very organized high level squad. |

I've went through Silver multiple times across different devices and platforms. The first time I went through Silver into Gold on up I would have agreed with your assessment. However, going back, starting a new account, and leveling it up through Silver a second time resulted in one major change: I didn't get stuck at all. I didn't even slow down. In fact I went right through Silver into Gold with barely a 6/7 hangar. By the 4th time I loaded a new account and went through Silver it was just a process and 6/5.5 is all that's needed to get through with less than 100 wins. Based on my experience I would posit that the roadblock everyone encounters in Silver isn't the Silver league itself. It's a lack of a particular set of skills and knowledge. Everyone that sticks with it long enough will eventually pass that phase. Advancing steadily afterwards is 'easier' simply because what it takes to clear Silver is foundational to the game. After that it becomes a matter of micro adjustments and consistency of play, as one adapts to the increased rate of speed in which a bot is destroyed and the general balancing of skills (the degree to which players skills vary shrinks with increased league levels). These have more impact at the higher levels (starts to become noticable mid Diamond), because the increase is gradual. I dunno...I really believe that everyone who makes it to Gold 1 could start a new account and move through Silver without encountering the dreaded wall. I just don't see the league itself, as the problem. I think that it's a misperception, because most don't go back through the leagues with a fresh hangar. |
