I've had exceptional success with a Doc 2Hydra/ 2Orcan Combo. In expert league 1/2 (bouncing around?) Why? 1) It can switch roles hunting hunters or close combat 2) And more importantly, Bots are quite confident, careless and annoyed as I bait them with the Hydra. Assaulting a BOT with 2 Hydra, what's the worst they would expect? Considering how uncommon the Doc is? 2 more light slots or one medium? Nope, when they swing the corner and are met with 2 lvl 11 Orcans, running sideways at 49mph medium and under are most often wiped out. Heavies I offload on while doing a tactical retreat. Of course I try to gauge the opponent in advance not to find myself facing a Orcan thunder Lance at close range. At 250m I have taken out a couple running sideways. 3) it allows you to watch the action from a distance doing tactful damage and closing in when there is an opening.
Another less odd is Lvl 11 Lance- Tempest Punishers. Very effective at #3 above since almost anything melts under 500m away! Takes down Ancile shields to make easy prey for comrades.
I'm interested in other odd combos as I find them to be more fun and effective than the run of the mill.

Thunder Ancile Raijin. Idea is simple - Raijin has a lot of HP, but is vulnerable to rockets. Not only RDB and DB, but also Hydra, Spiral, Aphid, Zenit and Noricum. Ancile solves this problem, making Raijin exceptionally hard to kill. If you park him in good spot (for example, beacon B on the power plant, the one next to the beach), he is almost invincible. There is no possibility to hit him with long-range weapons, Ancile deflects Hydras, Spirals, Aphids, Noricums and Zenits. If someone want to capture that beacon, he must kill you in knife-fight. You have only one Thunder, that's true, but with Bastion 30% damage bonus and almost 500HP with your shields and Ancile, you are able to defeat almost every robot. More than once. What is more, on small maps, you can really help your teammates. I remember one game, when I stood under the C beacon on the Moon, Orkan/Thunder Lancelot used me as a cover. We were able to kill seven opponents! And of course, killing Raijin usually takes long, so you can hold your opponents for a long time. More than once someone finally rescued me, before I died. One thing to note, this setup is weak at the first levels. When everything is at level 6 or higher, it's good to go.

Awesome insight, would have never thought of that. Got distracted by the one Thunder but that's some sound logic! Will try that once I get a Raijin. Already have a Lvl10 Thunder & Lvl11Ancile.

Also the thunder/ancile Carnage, and any Ecu build like a Natasha with two zeuses/tridents, a gekko and an ecu shield, it'll protect you from Zeus, gekko and mostly trebuchet.

Yep a Carnage that can survive a death button and lace you with a Thunder is an interesting preposition. Will try that later ?

My Geppo can be fun - 3 Geckos on a Gepard. Haven't used the bot for a long time then turned him into a mobile disco - his turret and turn speed make it hard for opposing Trebs to hit as well generally harassing red knifers.
Don't play it much but it's a laugh and a lot quicker than the GI Tortoise...er Patton - that bot just looks depressed when it plods around the battle field...

I'm loving my hybrid Rhino. Currently using Molot MK2s & Gekkos @ levels 8/9. The Rhino itself is only at a 6 right now cause it's long range. It's fun to use, requires skill, deals decent, but not huge, damage but it does it out of range of most everything. Anything that can hit it from above 500m can be deflected by the shield except for rare Tridents.
You have to really pay attention though and keep an eye out for the yellow eyes and know when the are going to be fired or are reloading to pop shield in time. If I'm taking enemy sniper fire I usually unload MK2s & Gekks simultaneously, then pop shield while MK2s are reloading. During this time I'm still firing Gekkos. Then drop shield and unload Molots again, etc. For this reason, I will most likely level the Gekkos up faster than the Molots since they can be fired constantly and while protected by my shield.
Also since the speed buff it's easy to get in/out of range of enemies and into/out of position or to side beacons so I can still get some caps for my team while playing outskirts of a map like Canyon or SF.
I've only had the bot now for about 2 weeks so I'm still learning and getting better with it every time I use it. Seeing as how I'm already decent with it and love it, I imagine it's gonna be awesome at like a 10/12.

Tulumbas Rogatka!!! It's exceptional. Just keep moving, maim, keep moving, maim, move, maim move, Beacon steal, move, maim.
You can frustrate RDBs to the point of screaming.

I'm liking the Tulumbas Rog idea, since my Orcan Rog is awesome. Everyone goes for the Griff Orcan but I more than not can take one out with the Rog cuz of mobility. I hate sitting and waiting with the Griff. Nice suggestion with the Tulumbas. Will try! ?

Play like an absolute coward, switch targets costantly, if they chase, lead em straight to another blue.

None really. If they were 'effective' then they wouldn't be 'unconventional'. More often times than not, unconventional loadouts don't generate consistent results. They may at times work but it's mostly out of sheer luck, a specific situation, or the league you're running a build in. Also difficult to assess individual bot performance because these stats aren't available.
Different weapon range set on a switch bot might work but I personally dislike having to remind myself that I'm now switching from 300M to 500M.

Well I respect your perspective but something being 'effective' doesn't make it 'conventional'. Just like with trading stocks, theirs a small percentage of unique methods that gain great results and a major secret to its continued success is in the fact that it isn't widely known. This is much the same in almost any competitive thing. I average a reasonable 530 000 largely due to the consistency of the unconventional bots which are actually more consistent than my Ancilot, or all the other traditional stuff. (3 Lances, 2 Fury, 1 Galahad, Carnage, 5 Docs, yadayada so I like the unconventional not because of lack of choice but effectiveness against the conventional. Everyone has a plan for what they know. I guess the more people that ignore unconventional the more that will walk into your traps overconfident and underprepared ??. Hence this thread to look for other adventurous minds!

People in some places have suggested using Thunder/Taran on a Boa for maximum effect, and that idea is not too shabby. However, since I just got into Level 20 and Workshop Points 3 days back (R.I.P. me), I have been using Thunder/Tulumbas until I acquire my first Taran. Any comments? (Before you rant at me telling to use an Orkan instead, I'll politely say no, because I'm saving my Gold for a 5th hangar slot)

I'm sure it's not the most effective but LEO Zeus Pins. Had pretty decent success. Don't see any on the field. It's a pretty decent counter to RDB. High HP makes it difficult to take down and gives it an advantage over Fury I feel which just gets bashed now-a-days.

Boa is one of the most underrated bots out there today. Quite fast, has decent damage and is quite tanky. Basically a budget Leo for less the cost and more speed.

I would recommend the Punisher and bring him out after the first few Min's when the Tulumbas Griffs are gone. Your Thunder isn't much effective at 300- 500m. So you should try to get closer in which case the Tulumas won't add much and their reload is slow. The punisher instead would deal damage at the distance but bring real complimentary pain at under 250m which is where you should aim to engage. If you want to stay at distance and shoot then I would use the Patton for that role. Would do almost double the damage as the one Tulumbas and you won't have to hang around in the open while your Thunder is off loading. Stats wise the medium Punishers are comparable as a budget option to the Taran's. Giving up mainly breaching Anciles.

Ancile Punisher Leo.
Doesn't care about snipers.
Doesn't care about rockets.
24 RPS to 36 RPS after spinup. Each bullet has a critical hit chance to break a weapon/legs/ability. More bullets means more DPS at range (which is the only thing that makes it better than pun Ancilot)
Breaks shields.
Pain in the arse to remove.

This was a new one to me...saw him in Valley. Kang Dae and Molot MkIIs on a Lance. He was second damage, but obviously that was his other bots. Guess he was just trying it out for fun. Maybe it wouldn't be the worst mid- to long-ranger once everything was leveled? Wouldn't have to worry about return fire from Treb snipers. Just gotta watch out for RDBs sneaking up...and Gunship Griffins, I suppose. Not something I would run, but you never know.

The problem with Tulu Rog is, it doesn't do much damage (I think an Orkan Cossack does more)... It is strictly a capper and distraction, with no pushing or staying power. So if you stay in it too long, you are a handicap to blues. But it is very survivable, so it's easy to just stay in it and perform "thousand small cuts" routine, until reds have meched out most other blues or have decisive beacon lead. It can be fun I am sure, and it can be useful (by which I mean, really pull its weight for win) sometimes. But I believe enjoying it for more than a quick beacon capping run will bring your win% down. Taran is ok on Rog, but not bursty enough. Current Rog is made for Orkan: casually run or jump to have LoS, unleash hell while already running/jumping back/forward to cover. With luck and skill Orkan Rog lives a long time too, while actually doing meaningful damage.

I accept people have different play styles and that this is a game and should be fun. However I strongly hold a different opinion which I want out there since the forum is also about giving advice to newer players, so I am adding my £ 0.02. The Rogatka is my favourite 'bot. First Au purchase after 4th slot and never regretted. Bought a second and won a third, so I have had quite a few run-outs with a Tulu Rog. The strength of the Rog is its mobility, it is not that difficult to get in and out of 300m range. Every time I have tried out Tulumbas on a Rog I have always found myself thinking: I wish I had Orkans 'cos I could have got in there and taken out that 'bot. RDB Griffin is a far superior Tulumbas platform with enough firepower to make a difference, and it still has sufficient mobility to keep out of 350m range. For fun I am currently running all three Rogs: based on what I have to choose from two Ork Rogs and one Taranasaurus Rog. Even the Taranasaurus is far far more effective than the Tulumbas Rog. You may enjoy running a Tulumbas Rog - fair play, have fun, your choice - but to state it is "exceptional" in a thread about effective load-outs is mis-leading.

However, with the new matchmaking it's more efficient to use heavy robots, say Thunder Punisher Leo or Thunder Magnum Leo. Also Plasma has lost a bit of punch. Tarans are still very effective. Do get a pair of Tarans and have it in your hangar, maybe as part of a Plasma Griffin.

Back on topic, recently ran into a red Thunder Punisher Leo: spawned on me as I was turning a beacon in BR. Ouch! This is actually the most common Leo loadout in lower leagues, at least in my pet FB account. My unconventional loadout is a Molot Zeus Natty. And I still wonder why there are so few people running it. The great advantage if this build is that you can hit Zeus/Trident robots from 700m, and usually the bullets will do enough damage to make them sprint for cover. And if someone rushes you, the Molots can deal a fair amount of damage. Certainly not enough to worry a Lancelot, but at point blank range they have almost twice the burst DPS of a Magnum (though the reload times hurt), and if you are chased by a low-health robot you can just slug it out. Finally, Molots do help to take out Anciles in support of blue knife fighters. And a pair of Zeus can really wreak havoc in any lineup. A lot of players still underestimate Zeus, but that Natty racks up some serious damage with the capability of delivering 30k every 6 seconds. (OK, -20% as my Zeus are only level 10. But so is the rest of my hangar.) And one huge advantage is the cheap upgrade cost. A Natty can be brought to level 12 in just 7 days (from 6) and it costs only 25 million, compared to 15 days and 55 million for a Fury. And level 10 is really a bargain at 4.3 days and 9 million (Fury: 8 days and 15 million). Compared to the Carnage, the Natty is obviously missing the Ancile, but has the added HP and the Molots. I ran a Zeus Carnage for a long time, but like the Natty better - for one simple reason: A Carnage is automatically targeted by every sniper/Zeus/Plasma build around, while the Natty is usually underestimated.

It's not a beasty damage dealer, what it IS though is the paper to a lot of rocks out there. With all the RDB Griffs out there now, a Tulu Rog is superb at dealing with them and others for that matter. But yep, they are a quick deal. Great for Early or late capping and excellent for when three red RDBs show up.
