I'm not sure if I missed a blurb about Gekko's on the last update, or what.. but
DAMN!
Seems like every game I play now it's all Pink Floyd's Electric Light show tour. I almost feel like I should dress my bots all in black and have them swing glow sticks. Just laser beams EVERYWHERE!
One game last night it was like every red bot had gekko's on them. It was springfield and I had all 4 bots destroyed inside of 4 minutes. I couldn't go ANYWHERE. Those stupid things just melted all four of my bots.
What happened?

Pix was like "hey, buy more Gareths and Galahads!" Then they released 3.0 with the return of rockets and just said "gotcha!"

They did another buff to the Gekko (+25% this time) in the 2.9.2/2.9.3 update.

They also started giving away gekkos in events. People who did some mild grinding in the last two events will have two gekkos by now.

No Brit bots will get you eaten by gekkos and trebs. With Britbots you will get close enough to have the honor of being blasted by splash.
The only consolation is that people's enthusiasm for spirals and hydras seem to have diminished somewhat.

They tend to lose for their team but this does bother me somewhat. Case in point just played a match against this loser with the mental constitution of a gaping 「bum-bum」. It was in Springfield and sure he did cause grief to our guys deploying across the riverbed but once we started moving with armor it was high time to ditch...but he stayed...and stayed..and stayed in that Patton to hand his team a loss, spawn where they did it was imperative to grab center and far beacon (E&D, B was his home beacon) Despite being useless in a team of team players he was the least penalized.  During the match I figured he must have been one of those dimwits with a gek Patton & some hydra setup. Imagine my surprise when I saw what he could have unleashed and probably won the game with.  Between the league point distribution and retards like this individual, it ruins a lot of good games for others. ...looking at the hangar it could be the hangars owner's kid playing...perhaps |

I still have 17 Gekkos (stock level) laying around from the 3rd anniversary event... Jeez I might power up 4 in time to come for my own Vader Patton, the rest are silver collateral. Hahaha! |

As a matter of fact: That low health and low speed quad gekko patton ain´t invincible. I know, cause I run one with 4 nice red lasers (12/12). I had the gekkos months ago where they made a lot less damage than they do make now and I had them at level 8 or so back then and thought "well, looks nice but is basically useless" - which it was back then. Then the boost came and made the weapon usable. But: - If you play against people who know the map and take cover you´re pretty much useless and yes, even the open maps have cover spots to get away from a gekko. No splash damage so without direct line of sight you can´t do a thing. - more than once one of the other players switched to a fast bot with some nice Orkans and wasted me in seconds. Patton is not known for its great maneuverability so getting away is no option. - When you have depleted your energy and the enemy is still walking, you´re toast if they have some mid-range weapons and move towards you. To be useful with gekko, you always have to maintain at least 500m distance. 600+ is better - which is hard as bots move. - if you´re a stationary camper, you´re toast: tridents, zenits, hydras. you name it. gone in seconds, especially if they team up against you - if someone in the red team has a tripple treb fury: bye bye quad gekko patton. Sometimes I don´t see them and wonder what the heck is happening. From personal experience most of my matches around 3000 points are without gekko lightshow. A lot of matches I´m the only star wars bot and there was one match, where four, yeah thats 4, quad gekko bots were walking around. It looked amazing;) So: Gekko is still a niche and probably will stay a niche cause the gameplay if you really want to be outstanding at it is hard. It´s not standing around and pushing the button if someone walks by. Playing a slow bot with mediocre health and four nice red beams is fun, but it´s also constant movement, constant monitoring what´s happening on the map and unlike with other bots: one false move and you´re toast. We´re not Superbot. |

It's kinda like this: Pix says [Hey, buy more light robots! They make good beacon runners!] And then when we buy those unshielded bots, Pix goes,
[Ha, gotcha!] and releases all those Gekkos and we get busted. I saw a ton of teammates and enemies having Light Stick parties (should be Oh I Get Sick Of Gekkos parties)
and I was stuck on my non-gekko Galahad. The rest of my teammates were busy watching dancing docs and breakdancing griffs, while I tried my best to capture
the central beacon without getting spotted by any tap-dancing Rogs.

I run a Molot Galahad as a specific counter to Gekko/Trebs. good for capping far beacons without being annoyed and get those laser campers irritated a bit. probably better beacon capper than a Rhino in maps like SF, since rhino cannot always walk with the shield facing the enemy to the side.
one preblem of this build is in general lower dmg output. and not sure how it will perform in the beacon rush mode,

The best help from Gekkos is going from cover to cover. Even in Springfield, there's plenty of it.

Gecko is too strong.
Suppose there are five energy cells per cell every second.
It becomes 16k with 3.2k × 5 (second).
Reference: With full firing, aphids 17k Talan 17.76k
Although Gecko has a long reload, it is not good to have only a difference of about 1k.
I have an impression that I am targeting more accurately than other long range weapons. Probably high attack power, switching is slow. Of course, when there are many physical shields, they will not be issued, and even if they are taken out, they will be changed to other robots.
Would you be able to increase the power by the irradiation time? It increases by 25% (maximum 125%(2.25 times)). Damage is judged from the 1st second, so the execution thermal damage (attack power increase) will be from the second second. every second.Instead, please lower the attack power to 1.84K. Thermal damage judgment lasts for 3 seconds.
Thermal power after specification change: 1st second(1840*100%) + 2st second(1840*125%) + 3st second
(1840*150%) + 4st second(1840*175%) + 5st second (1840*200%) = 13800(13.8k)

Gekkos are allot better now, love it. I leveled up mine to 12 and put on a Patton. Any bot without a shield is good targets. Helps against the RDB brigade of rockets that hide 500m away on some maps. Also good against some trebuchet bots. Oddly enough I hardly run my gekko Patton now days. It gets a little boring plus trebs like to get you as much as you like getting them. I don't see gekkos as much now being it's been a month or more since they were buffed. But I am happy they are buffed. It's a neat weapon to use sometimes to break up the monotony of what you always see. Had they not buffed them, you wouldn't be talking about them. Just collecting dust in hangars.

I'm not entirely sure but I do believe one advantage the Darth Patton has over a Leo is it's damage output speed. Tempest/Gekko Leo is also a viable choice. Gives you a bit more range than a Zeus, and lock-on isn't a problem.

Zeus/gekko Leo is not as good as people think it is mainly because that heavy slot its useless until you get to 600m. What's the point of having a heavy slot if you can only do damage with it at 600m when your other weapons are true long range? It's better to waste some shots with the treb than it is to not do damage at all with your heavy slot. Then when you get to 600m with that setup you'll be toast pretty fast to a crafty RDB, trident, or hydra setup. It's too limiting. I've tried both and treb/gekko leo is way better because you're making use of extreme range. |
