So I finished off MK II upgrades to 12 on a golem (thank you massive gold reserves). Some of you are going to ask "why would you do that".
Well lets look at the end result:
Golem MK II level 12: 206000 hp, 42 kph, A large, medium and small weapon slot.
DPM wise that puts the golem on par with a leo (the leo has a slight advantage in most configurations).
HP pool is comparable to a level 10-11 leo (the HP pool is almost perfectly in-between 10 and 11).
Cost wise the golem mk II isn't that expensive. It costs 17 million to buy and take a golem level 12, then 500 gold and another 16.5 million to level 12 mk II. The time sink is minimal as well.
Time wise, 4 days 11.5 hours to take the golem to 12, double that for MK II and you end up just shy of 9 days. The daily tasks from this period will cover the cost of the MK II upgrade.
Taking a leo to level 11: 11days 10 hours, and 31 million gold.
So why would a golem be a better investment? Well time is a big factor but fitting is more important. If you end up with free gear from components, chests or the event then the golem is a stellar platform to get it into play WHILE you level it, and lack a 2nd or third of the item to put it on a more appropriate bot.
A single golem is 1/2 a carnage and 1/2 a griffins fittings. As an example: If you pull a free orkan from a chest or the event you might be tempted to buy the 2nd one to round out a DB -- A golem gives you a platform to put that item to use without a further gold investment. The same can be said for punishers and plasma, molots and tempests. That single zeus, scouge and gekko in your inventory now all have a home.
Because MK II is rare, and MK II golems even more so, there is a bit of a surprise factor on your side as well. Foolish is the leo pilot that rushes in 1v1 only to realize too late that you have the ability to go toe to to with him and survive.
So who should be investing in MK II golems? Well for new players the MK II upgrade makes a lot of sense to take up after getting the 4th slot but before purchasing the 5th. It makes sense for new players who find themselves with items that they don't have pairs to yet but want to put to use. It made sense for me to build one because it was cheep and is an absolute beast in android diamond.

What do you think of my idea of putting a zeus/scourge/gekko on the Golem and using it as a mid ranger harasser?

I'm on my way there on Android, currently at Mk2 level 7. Not going to use Au for speeding it up, my Ag reserves are dwindling fast enough even with normal update speed.
I am doing it in hopes of getting a single Tempest or Ember from event or components. If I don't, I'll probably run it in Zeus-Gecko configuration (will try Hydra, Tulumbas, Taran for the medium hardpoint on the other side of the bot). Will also probably play a bit with the classic TOP Golem of course.
Oh, and you forgot to mention the superb corner shooting ability. Tempest-Molot or Trebuchet-Gecko can operate from beyond even Trident range, and 42kph speed will make catching it with Noricums or Zenits difficult.

What do you think of my idea of putting a zeus/scourge/gekko on the Golem and using it as a mid ranger harasser? Cant say for sure, it just might work. But you'll have to pick your battles. Scourge gets stronger with proximity while zeus and gekkos stay constant. And if it doesnt you can always swap in a taran. Britbots and bulgasaurs might be a problem though.

Can't wait for the 3.4 update log: "We made a mistake when we changed medium robot upgrade times almost a year ago. The Golem's upgrade times are now in line with the other medium robots"

Can't wait for the 3.4 update log: "We made a mistake when we changed medium robot upgrade times almost a year ago. The Golem's upgrade times are now in line with the other medium robots" All the more reason to upgrade a Golem now =) I would note one more thing. The Mk2 Golem gains just about the average durability increase of all bots, but does it at a fraction of the cost in terms of silver and time. That makes it an amazingly efficient bot.

I'm getting tired of getting outranged by mid rangers. Yes, I know its my fault for running mostly orkan builds. So, with the scourge, I'm hoping for a build that is versatile at mid range, and gets more dangerous at shorter ranges. So, at 600m, the zeus and scourge come into range. Under 600m, the zeus and gekko damage remain constant (decent) while the scourge gets more powerful. I'm not sure how well my Golem will perform though due to it's low level. I'm not ready to take it or any of my bots to level 12 let alone Mk2. I think the first thing I'll try once I get it to level 8 is to put it on my Galahad with a pair of gekkos, and then with a pair of magnums and then see which I like better.

Damn. Amazing thread man, I'm super tempted to go for it. Sadly won't be in time to help me for the Halloween event but I take a bit of comfort in the fact that newer players will have an "Old Guard" bot that can be viable to them. Also I would compare the Golem's setup as a Gareth with an additional heavy HardPoint to boot. Don't forget that the way the medium HardPoint is setup it makes for a great cornershooter, even more so if you dedicate it to cornershooting and give it an Ancile to protect from surprise splash. Though that would be sacrificing some firepower...

Thanks for the post. Would have never considered upgrading the Golem before. I was aware that its upgrade costs were disproportionately lower compared to other mediums, but I wouldn't have guessed that would translate into MKII as well. I will give it a shot, and try to accumulate an Ember in the process.

TBH: time and cost wise a golem at level 12 (NOT MK II) is nothing to sneeze at. It is only 4/12 days to get there --- a whole day longer than taking a leo to level 8 for about the same HP and more speed and all the weapon advantages noted above.

Bonus -> i believe the golem's paintjobs are all "flaming hot cheetos" themed, so they would pair well with ember/taran/mag

They did it to rocket dodging after it was a core part of the game balance in terms of speed VS health for THREE YEARS of the game's lifespan. You think they won't nerf upgrade times/costs when people start focusing on a single, cheap bot after they nerfed the costs/times of every other bot? You must live in a different planet then. Ag Light bots used to take less time than the Golem to max (2-3 days iirc) and ALL medium Ag bots used to have the same costs/times as the Golem (where now it jumps up to 10hrs from lv 2->3 for every other Ag medium), and every Ag heavy used to cost/take as much time as Natasha Upper leagues wouldn't be so dry if they reverted the upgrade times to their old values. The Ag bottleneck is more than enough to slow upgrade progress past 10. Pre MM change/Upgrade time/cost nerf, you could build 2-3 five bot hangars for 2-3 levels of play (Bronze: 4/6, Silver:5/8, Gold:9/9) in the time it takes to get a single hangar to 10/10 now, and you could do that with tons of Ag to spare. I'll stop being cynical when Pix changes their tune. I've tried to keep on the ethical/optimistic/objective side of things throughout my time on the forum. The last two updates after everything else they've done to Fudge the state of the game is reason enough to be cynical.

So feedback from early testing: I normally run a pair of scourges on a Rog: the speed and bouncy behavior of a Rog is well suited to what the scourge does best - stay on target keep at optimal range. With level 8 zeus/gekko and 9 scourge I have to say I'm a bit underwhelmed as of right now. I think a big part of my issue here is that I have never spent much time with the zeus as a weapon or the golem as a bot. I also fit up a 7 Treb - 8 Gekko - 9 Scourge (I'm running both right now) and this configuration is much more interesting. The extra range and long reload on the treb work in your favor --- you can soften up a target before closing to scourge range!

Wouldn't the Natasha with dual zeus or treb be a better spend to MK2? Depends on what you have laying around and what you want to do with it. If your suck with a single orkan/scourge/shocktrain, if you want to break up a set of level 12 gear to MK II it then a golem makes a nice stopgap platform. I have enough stuff laying around that a MK II natty makes sense -- it is on my to do list

Good post zer00eyz! Whe I originally learned of the Mk2 Idea I thought: This will be great because it will probably be only available for AG Meks and is designed to make them viable in upper league playWell, I wasnt totally wrong, I guess. I will always have a soft spot for The Golem. It was the first Mek that I ran doubles of in my hangar (I ran two Zeus/Taran/Magnum versions)

Thanks zer00eyz for trying out the zeus/scourge/gekko configuration. Maybe I'll try my one scourge on a Galahad for now since I don't have a Golem in any state ready to play. For long term investment upgrading, I think I would do the Nat before the Golem for myself. Simply because I have more zeuses than I know what to do with right now. I also have 2 trebs and tridents just gathering dust, and since a Nat can mount 2 heavies, I'll prioritize that over the Golem. AND, before I do the Nat, I still have to get my main bots out of level 8 and in to 9 at the very least! I'm interested in your views of the scourge on the Rog though. I have 2 orkan Rogs because I've tried tarans, but I cannot keep the target centered while I'm jumping and running around. Whereas with orkans, I can unleash while jumping, and near hits are counted as full hits. Your comment about how the lock on with the scourge fits really well with the Rog has gotten me interested. Can you share some more experiences? When I get my second scourge, I just might put it on a Rog instead of a Lancelot as I originally planned.

Thanks for that info.. I have 1-Golem that I have at lvl9, and it is currently active in my hanger with a Ork, Pun and Thunder.. It holds ots own and it a master class Corner shooter.. This is a recent change for me.. But the Golem seems to be making a comeback and its good to see old bots making a comeback.. Seems to be a recent surge of older bots making their way into Gold/Diamond border.. it makes the game fun when you are up against them, as its a new challenge.. And old challenge renewed..
