Thanks for that info.. I have 1-Golem that I have at lvl9, and it is currently active in my hanger with a Ork, Pun and Thunder.. It holds ots own and it a master class Corner shooter.. This is a recent change for me.. But the Golem seems to be making a comeback and its good to see old bots making a comeback.. Seems to be a recent surge of older bots making their way into Gold/Diamond border.. it makes the game fun when you are up against them, as its a new challenge.. And old challenge renewed.. Glad your still running the old warhorse! Im enjoying the MK II variant and I have two others under- leveled in my hanger now.

Hm, I don't see the big advantage over a Leo tbh. - Sure, you save 3 days on the upgrades to reach a Golem comparable to a level 11 Leo, but then you could take Leo to level 12 later on if you have the time / resources and end up with an HP advantage. - Golem has the heavy on the side which is great, but Leo is a decent corner shooter and the heavy is high enough up to shoot over obstacles. So it's a wash really. - Leo has more fire power. - I do agree that the three lights on the Leo are a pain to get a hold of and level, so slight advantage of the Golem. However, having to deal with three different weapon types can be tricky. Compare a Zeus/Gekko Leo to a Zeus/Scourge/Gekko Golem, I'm not sure you can make effective use of all three weapons in many situations. - Golem is faster. Who needs speed on a Leo?

The mk2 golem is a faster mk1 Leo.

I've actually taken the suggestion back then and I've two considerations:
1) it was great in the first week of November: I was quickly MK2ed, fitted up with midrange energy weapons for an anti-dash role and nobody expected a golem to be able to withstand a full RDB salvo.. people approached, got wasted, but came close to finish me off anyway.. only, they found they couldn't. I keep a lots of stats, but not kill ratios, but as a gut feeling I think it was going 2, even 2.5 to 1. I even entertained briefly the idea of MK2ing my second and last surviving Golem (once, I had 5 of them... good times), but....
2) Then it became less goood: after a week, the other players MK2ed as well and they did so with more effective stuff and could again one shot me. Also, apparently they had all seen a mutant golem and most were not so cocky anymore and approached carefully. I think I went down to 1.5 kills to 1. Still not bad, but nothing too impressive either. I did better with a thunder Carnage at close range and with a molot griffin (even a gunship griffin, more flexible) at mid.
3) Then it was off from my hangar altogether: with premium almost guaranteed and stuff to level, I switched to a full damage-output oriented BR hangar (the one in signature), no matter if I mech out early, and back in was my triple zeus fury. My novelty bot right now (because I need one, otherwise it's too boring) is an ancile/ember Carnage which is actually much more effective than one would expect.
BUT... since I now have a sigle shocktrain (and who knows if and when I'll have a second) once it its at level 11, I plan to take the Golem out again, place a zeus and gekko together with it and see what happens.

No worries. The game should be about experimenting with different builds and you made a great suggestion. Unfortunately, the game does not really favor experimenting .. first you need to level new stuff, which takes forever and is expensive, then your damage goes down and you drop in leagues .. I was lucky to get the second hangar slot from the forum giveaway, and I have just enough bots somewhat levelled (8-ish) so that I can put together a nice party of the forgotten I focus on long-range with the second hangar as the work horses (Gekko Leo currently with Tempest, RDB) and add some fun builds and only drop it on Yama and sometimes on Canyon. It usually costs me 10 league points, but wth.

This is my favorite build! hon_shu This is the sort of thing that the golem excels at! That first scourge/shocktrain/storm has a home on a bot that is fairly sold, one that can brawl as well as work at mid range.

The cost of an mk2 golem is roughly 33 million + 500 Au but a regular mk1 Leo will cost 56.7 million. Similarly, the golem takes 9 days to mk2 while the Leo takes 15.

It would actually be great if all upgrade silver and time costs were halved for all Ag light and medium bots. It would make the game better for f2p and also more interesting at high leagues. One can keep hoping right?

I run a level 12 Mk1 Golem on Android, where I have reverted to a light-medium hangar (and dropped to Diamond 2). It's fun, it reasonably fast, and I use it in very different setups. I agree that a Mk2 is one of the best choices if you build a budget hangar. But I still find it somewhat limited because there is no heavy weapon that works like a Taran or Orkan (maybe Ember, don't have that one as I have stopped giving any RM to Pixo). That second medium weapon on a Lance or Griffin adds so much punch...
I do build a Mk2 Natty though. A bit more expensive than a Golem, but still very cheap, and my preferred midranger.

Because a Boa takes 3 times as long to upgrade and costs 3 times as much money as a Golem? Or, rather, the Golem is at 1/3rd to 1/4th of upgrade time and cost than most other robots. Looking at 1000mil upgrade cost for a level 12 Mk1 hangar, "wasting" 32mil/9 days on a robot that you may discard at some time but may use for a year is a good deal.

Yes this is what I have been looking for. i did not know the times were quite short but those numbers are amazing. thx for the great post, I will use an ember (from the charity contest), taran, and ECU and try to MK2 it. A great investment haha

Golems, Nattys and Pattons are all VERY good alternatives to other silver and gold counterparts
Natty vs Fury - You can upgrade much faster and much cheaper a Natty. It can be done in a week. HP and speed the same. I would imagine damage is close.
Golem - Leo as you mention. Golem takes far shorter period of time to upgrade
Patton - Griff. Unless you need the jump a Patton upgrades much faster, 4 Pinatas, 4 aphids or 4 Mags (think 16K damage per second at level 12 Mk1 nonstop; Mk2 would be 20% higher so that's close to 20K damage per second) is nothing to sneeze at and has more HP than a Griff and is faster.
This is why I won't buy a Fury as a Natty is so close and I have 4-5 in my hangar and they start at level 6 unlike a Fury at level 1. When I get around to it I'll be upgrading some Pattons and Nattys for sure.

I love my Golem. I’m running it at just lvl. 10 in D1 and it’s very effective. Currently, I’m using Temp/Pun setup 9/9/9 and I find it just as effective as a Leadhose if not more. The corner shooting is amazing. Even the heavy slot can be corner shot. Koalabear Zeus/Scourge/Gekko is pretty effective as a mid-ranger. Ofc it lacks in damage when compared to a Zeus Fury and even possibly an RDB, but as I stated above the corner shooting is a big plus and it’s a lot more fun to run IMO

Umm... I feel like a fool because I am close to getting my second orkan, but you made a very good point of the golem being a home for your single weaps. Anyways, I have 1,120 gold and I don't know what to do with it. Should I follow through and get my second orkan, or save up for a zeus? I want to make a zarnage in the future, so is the zeus a better investment now or is the orkan? My other orkan is level 6, and as i type this my second pinata is getting to level 6, so I could start off with a 6/6 db griff. Anyone wanna give their take?

Zeus/scourge/geko if you have the other two then a zeus might make sense. Storm, thunder punisher would also work --- there are plenty of where ONE of them can be put to use much sooner on a golem. I would not make any decisions till after the next event you don't know what your going to end up getting for free.

[Beware: Necropost]
Just ran into a Mk II Golem this morning and he was surprisingly difficult to kill. I suicided in with a Spectre with a full payload of Level 10 Orkans and half damage...oops! I couldn't finish him before my Stealth expired and I was toast. So consider this a retrospective from the New Economy era.
So the OP was just around a year ago. Here is the Old Economy/New Economy breakdown:
Old Economy --> New Economy
Golem Mk I (205,200 42mph)
Ag to Mk I 16.99M --> 31.97M (+88%)
Time to Mk I 4d11h30m --> 8d23h35m (+100%ish)
Leo Mk I (271,200 35mph)
Ag to Mk I 55M --> 62.6M (+14%)
Time to Mk I 15d3h --> 15d23h24m (+6%)
Double all of that to get the 20% increase for Mk II.
Golem Mk II (246,240 42mph) ~64M Ag and ~18 days
Leo Mk II (326,040 35mph) ~125M Ag and 32 days (yikes!)
And redfiend was right:
"Can't wait for the 3.4 update log: 'We made a mistake when we changed medium robot upgrade times almost a year ago. The Golem's upgrade times are now in line with the other medium robots'"
It took until 4.0 for the rebalance, but Pixonic did further hamper the efforts of the F2P player. It's funny, I've been 1 Starring my Google Play review of War Robots for a long time now and Pix actually responded to the effect of, "Everything is available without having to spend real money." While that's technically true, they've so radically changed the game that I now refuse to pay one red cent whereas I used to pop for the occasional month of Premium (I even bought some mega deal on Au once...can you imagine!).
Anyways, the New Economy certainly has taken some of the wind out of the sails of the OP's argument. You could say that the Golem is a niche bot but I'd say it's more of a novelty or relic. But, if we stick to the axiom of "bots before weapons," maybe a new player would take the time to level one early. BTW,the other two tenets of War Robots are "slots before bots" and "bros before..." um...nevermind.
I don't have a leveled Golem. I wish I did and then I'd consider playing around with it just for fun. As it is, I probably won't spend 64M and 18 days trying (especially since they nerfed Ag payouts...I'm not paying for Premium ever again).
Cheers!

I would love to level a Golem and a Natty as they don't take too long. A Natty is surely useful at long range with 2 Fluxes and 2 Gekkos. Leo is definitely useful in a one Flux and 3 Gekko setup. Golem is ok and I'm sure I'd have a tough time killing. But no shield unless you throw an Ancile. It's not fast and if you put an Ancile on it won't have enough firepower. This is why I don't run an Ancilot and don't put an Ancile on my Inquis. Gotta have 3 weapon slots in my opinion at higher leagues especially when facing Spectres that have 4.
All this being said if you enjoy a Golem you can level multiple of them by the time you level a post economy one.

While it is certainly a bargain to upgrade, I'd still take a low level Spectre over it. Let's be honest, I can do way more damage and it's a really fun bot to use. Sure it dies at the drop of a hat, but learn to use it and it can play forever. Currently using cheap Tulumbas and if the field isn't littered with shocktrains I can wrack up some major damage.

I remember this thread. I think I was stalled out in Gold II for a few months and couldn't seem to move up, so I leveled 3 Golems to Mk2/12. I tried several different builds, but the one that suits my style best is the Thunder/Taran/Magnum combo. Can't tell you how many Ancilots got taken down thinking I was an easy kill. Managed to break into Diamond finally and have been lingering there for several more months. These days I've been using the Golems as a stabile platform to try new weapon combos as I obtain new weapons. A corner shooting Scourge? No, no... Don't run. I still keep my brawler setup though, got the Thunder/Taran/Magnums Mk2'd, sitting at about 9, and on their way to 12. I have so much fun with that thing I plan on keeping it in the lineup as long as possible.

Still run my Mk2-ed Golem with Thermite, Vortex, and Aphid. It's in the 2nd hangar right now, with the "for fun" builds. As Desert Eagle 44 said, it's a great testbed and still holds up in most fights. Not a bad investment a few months ago... but now, I don't know if I would do it all over again.
