For a while now, I've been tossing around the idea of looking for a clan to join but I'm curious about a couple things.
Now, unless I'm missing something, there is no communication directly in game, even for clan mates? No chat room or messaging option?
Do clans that you're aware of use message boards for communication?
Do clans that you're aware of use voice chat software?
My biggest wonder is how the average clan communicates with one another and if they do it during fights? I'm not a fan of online live chatting and I think that would be what keeps me from running with a clan. I would much prefer to be in a clan that uses message boards to strategize and maybe even some type of texting/messaging software running on a second device.
Just curious.

You have clan chat in-game when you are NOT in a match. Test server shows squad chat(soon) while you are waiting for a match in the loading screen. Most clans have a website with a forum or a FB page. I can't verify it, but it seems Skype is common for voice comms. Wiki and Wiki2 Clans use Line(free call/message app).
I would think some type of live chat software is used while IN a game. But I can also see group messaging - talk-to-text kinda stuff, or a chat room going through to notifications without seriously disrupting gameplay. I think that depends solely on you using a device or a PC to play though.

Oh! And do your research on the Clan itself! If you're un-clanned you accumulate clan points regardless, they go to the Clan you join, but if/when you leave said clan, the points don't follow. Choose wisely.

Choose wisely. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like clans seem to be rated in medals, added up from all their membership. You can see the amount of medals you've accumulated w/i the past 10 days after a battle. The issue, it seems, is that your medal amount and the clan medal amount, update on different schedules. Player medal amount updates every 24 hours, and clan medal amount updates... immediately or every 8'ish hours? I was going to try to verify this by adding up the medals in the clan I recently joined, but all the players on a roster don't seem to show up. I would have to get a clanless player and create a clan to test if clan medals = player medals w/ just 1 player, then add another player, recheck, repeat. ...but anyway, I'm sure its all based on medals, which are earned by players in battle per 100k damage dealt, rounded up, then summed up by total clan roster. I assume that a full clan of 36 players that hasn't played in 10 days will have a clan score that drops to 0. Right?

Yeah I believe that's more or less correct, clan medals update every hour and player medals every 24 hours. Only the medals earned while in the clan are counted.

My clan uses group texting and other group communication software for three reasons: 1. Share information and answer questions from members, especially on upgrades and hanger strategies 2. Share successes or failures and post results for contests we run 3. Coordinate actions during the game to operate like a squad
I am enjoying the game a lot more since I joined a clan and especially since I started to use the extra communication software. I'm always free to leave....just had to cut my teeth as a noob to increase skills to get my hanger slots increased to 4 and my trophy count higher to join a good clan. I've learned a ton from the clan members and have in turn passed that knowledge onto others.
There is a ton of great info on the forums and wiki - the key issue is that there is almost too much info out there so the clan members are able to talk pros and cons of actions and point to relevant info on why they do things....incredibly helpful. And it is fun to run with the same large group of folks from around the world in the games.
