I was in Gold 2, then the 2.9 update and through playing with setups and messing with different bots, just playing around with various setups I slid down to Silver 2.
I was frustrated. I worked HARD to get to Gold2, I was a mad capper, did everything to win the game.
But alas, as I slid to where I am today.. I figured out in War Robots, Winning is far from everything.
I learned SILVER is the best league. The variety of Bots and of skill levels means every battle is completely different. From Cossacks to Lancelot's.. you see them all.. The most common is Leos and Natasha's.
In Gold, and really as you get into Gold 2.. seems like every match is every variety of Lancelot, Griff's, Galahad's, Fury's, ect.. So the battles get kind of stale. I was running a 58-72% winning percentage being a beacon capper.. and yes it w as cool, and fun..
But in back in Silver.. Its all new and real fun again.. I really could care less about beacons.. I am a mid-ranger .. I have my lvl 8 Leo with lvl 8 trident and Pins, a ROG w/Orks, a Galahad with Aphids and Ork, a Plasmahad and a RDB Griff.. Pretty much sums up my hanger.. though I will switch a Galahad for a thunder-carny on occasion.. everything is lvl 8.
I find a LOT of me in Silver.. Lots of lvl7-lvl9 weapons and bots and pilots
I cap when needed, but my focus has been support for the knifers..
It has been a blast.. Its a 50% win rate, so i am not moving forward or backward, but enjoying every game.. MUCH more than Gold 2.
So, its my take on this game.. I have been in it for just under 6 months..
I may be the minority or not.. I was in a rush to get into the elite, into the Diamond and above levels.. But I found I was wrong for thinking that way.
So I am just giving you new players to the game my perspective on maybe not rushing to reach the gold level and just have a blast where you are at.. Take what the game is giving you and have fun with it..
After all, its just a game..

According to the MM system, Winning is only half of everything, lol. But I agree Silver is probably the most fun.

You must be on Android because I'm iOS and see the drop in bot variety occur in diamond. Made it up to diamond 1 but got bored with the meta so I switched to fun and experimental setups and slid down to gold 1. But some of my weapons are already leveled to high and I'll creep into diamond 3 sometimes. All new weapons I'm only leveling to 6 or 7 so I can fight to my hearts extent and stay in gold, excepting underpowered weapons like Spiral and Hydra which I'm trying to level up to be as effective as the others.

Weird, I still see plenty of non TT builds, and have much better games, with much more competent players, in Android Gold 2 than I ever did in Silver and especially Silver 'Tanker's Paradise' 1.

Sure, that can be fun, no one is saying that isn't fun as well. But it's also fun to try things out and see some variety. In any case, with the awesome MM in this game you get pitted against overwhelming odds about half the time and you get to win with weird setups the other half, lol. |

I echo the OP experience in Silver. I've changed my approach from beacon capper to support for my 7.5/7.5 all medium hangar and am having a blast. Pulling back from the front lines give a much better field awareness and with the speed of mediums I can position my bots quickly where they are effective.
Net result is lower beacon count but higher kill and damage. More important is that it is just so much fun playing.
Somehow my 8/7 heavy/medium hangar does not as well with this approach, probably due to the slower heavies.
Having so much fun that win % does not matter much.

I'm pretty much 6 months in as well. 100% Free Player
Got lucky during the event and scored Lancelot, Roga, Gareth and so on.
Now I'm unlocking 5th slot and of course add 2 RDB Griffin lol.
1---I scored piles of 10 gold(per match) in tanking league with my almost maxed weapon Gareth, it ran the most beacons while camping in red base and corner shoot those bronzes till game ends.
2---I leave before a sure losing battle ends and only stay if the battle is winning, that way the system didn't record the losing league points and only add winning points. So even with my max Gareth + trash hanger, I'm getting close to Champion League now(just for the bonus gold to unlock 5th slot sooner).
By the time this exploit get fixed, I think I would be already good enough to take it slow in this game.

Here we go, the grand awakening I had so long ago! Play the game as a game!
I used to play COD: Ghosts like I do this game; just picking different setups and having fun using them. Akimbo Magnums....with ACOG scopes. Be a fake knight by using the riot shield and throwing knives on that castle map.
It's more fun when you are just playing to see what things do! I've turned my darn lancelot into a mid-range rocket beast for the moment, simply because it's new and different and catches all the galahads completely off gaurd (They end up at <half HP every slavo, and I can keep em in cover with one Tulu now, ehehe.......), and I run all the weird setups to irritate people! (poking people with a gekko on top of a gepp and then smacking them with two aphids usually causes a huge distraction...)
Everything can be fun! This game wasn't centered around moving up in the beginning, and it doesn't have to be now!

Boy your Moody this morning... lol.. sorry, it was there I had to use it.. Listen.. I didn't design the game, and I am an ardent supporter of PIXONIC .. BUT what I have found, is what the game gives me... The game is geared to damage and killing other Bots, the rewards are VERY small for beacon capping.. Now yesterday I had a game where I killed 7 and capped 8 beacons.. On Dead City.. Just happened that way.. so I am not saying I "won't" cap beacons.. I am saying it is not my priority .. If the rest of the team is knife fighting I will do what my hanger is set up for mid-range support, with my Rog being a sort of Beacon runner of needed, but is awesome at support.. So how I play is a bit relative, but I PIX put me where I am with its pseudo support of faders and tankers.. It made the system what it is.. I just play the cards I have in my hand..  |

I have to say I am in agreement with op on this subject, probably been playing roughly same amount of time. Got as far as high as gold ii briefly, but the soul crushing mm had me yoyoing mostly between silver ii and 1. Finally decided to take a bunch of those weapons I earned last event slap them on a few old mediums and just go to town. Ran a medium / light hanger and am having the time of my life. I've slid down to silver iii but have slowly stabilized and am actually moving back up the ladder. So avoid the hassle and just play how you like.... Just have fun.
