What do you guys think? I'd pay 200 gold to rent a lance for a week. It would give players a chance to try out bots before investing currency, and Pixo would still be collecting currency. Why is this a bad idea?

That is a great idea! And maybe let players apply a portion of the rent to the final price if you choose to buy the bot.

That is what the test server is for. Try them out there. One problem with rental would be what level is the bot gonna be? Would you really want to rent a level one bot? If they came in different levels, the cost would be different I would think, a maxed lance would be worth way more in rental fees than a level 1 or even a level 8.

It doesn't necessarily have to cost gold.
It's like a free rental, once in a week you can try a Premium bot for a day. To taste it.
Or make some tasks to be fulfilled to have a chance to try some new bots.
Yeah, there is the test server, i think 90% of the community base doesn't even know it exists. Unless they start putting some more advertising about it on the game and not in different platforms.

Pix would implement this and give you a lv 1.

This is actually a fantastic idea! I've seen it done in other games, like shooters where you can rent different guns. Seems like it could be implemented in this game.
The only problem I can see with this, is that a level 1 Lance isn't going to be very useful. Would you have different levels available to rent at various price points?

Here's the thing about your idea. I make 200 gold in TWO DAYS on a regular basis and most of that is from daily tasks alone. If your idea was implemented then they would either be forced to lower the payouts of daily tasks (which might hurt the player base in the long-run) or make renting more expensive than the proposed 200 gold per week; not making them worth renting and causing it to be a waste of time and effort on the devs' part. Neither of this things would help from a financial standpoint, causing Pixonic to possibly lose money over time.
I like the idea but it's just not practical enough to implement.

Maybe 200 Au would be a bit low, so let's say a top tier boy would cost between 300 and 500 for a rental. I think level ten should be the base level for rental bots as it is at level ten when things start to get expensive in this game. I got lit up by a an Orkan Rig today. If I could have rented a Rog today, I'd have happily done so for a few hundred gold. Doubt I'll actually buy the Rog though, so I think Pixo would still be making profits if rentals were available. Shoot, for the right price, Pixo could convince players to lease a fleet of tricked out bots instead of investing in ownership, especially for a casual player.

I wouldn't wanna waste my gold on that. One thing that has kept me progressing is the fact that I have to work for my equipment. If I could have everything right away, there wouldn't be much to look forward to and the game wouldn't be as thrilling as it is. In the end most players will have all bots anyways. It's really just a matter of time. I have everything except Butch after nine months in the game. And there's still bots for me to discover. I have never ever tested Boa, Griffin, Stalker, Patton, Jesse, Doc and the still missing Butch. They're all sitting at lvl 1 waiting for their upgrade time. I have so much stuff that needs to be upgraded first...lol
Pix should add some mechanic guys so we're able to do more than one upgrade at a time. There's "Drop Assault", an Android game from the Warhammer 40k universe. There you can buy Tech-Priests so you can do multiple upgrades on your base simultaneously.

New players would have the biggest benefit with getting their gear to let's say around level 7 or 8 in a short amount of time. As upgrades become more and more expensive people may not even be able to afford two upgrades at a time.

In Mechwarrior Online, we have Trial Mechs. You can try them out for free in a firing sessions or even in a match (which is a bad idea since you can let down your entire team). The Trial Mechs are free to use but they periodically change on a rotation basis, given that there are literally hundreds of mechs in that game. You can't upgrade a trial mech.
Will it work on War Robots? Assuming lets say, you cannot upgrade a trial robot.
The problem is dropping even a level 1 Lancelot on a Bronze league. Or Griffins into beginner's matches.
The other problem is dropping these down on high level league matches, where you can disappoint your team.

In a game I play, you can rent out your character, the higher level the more it costs to rent.
However you can ONLY do this within your clan.
i.e level 10 Lance with level 10 Taran/Ancile = 20 Au per day, this leaves your account and goes into your squad members account you rent from.

Awesome idea!

Like buying cars, people tend to want to buy a new car (unless said new car is a downgrade from the previous version, or costs too much/can't afford it) Unlike buying cars, no pilot wants to buy a scratched up bot with possible "red paint" splatters on the controls and a cracked windshield
And do you think the car manufacturer is going to be okay with you handing back a destroyed rental without paying the full price for, I dunno, damaging said car?

Also like this thread idea.

Good idea, but that would be a bit OP because then wallet warriors would take over. The one thing about the game that I like most is that wallet warriors can't ride in the game any faster than the rest of us. Maybe a unique currency that can't be bought?

It contains used/damaged parts (the parts that aren't broken))

Is the bot you're buying refurbished? Repaired? Brand new? Who knows! In any case, it's 'new' to you, and as long as it lasts a tens of thousands of battles, does it really matter?

Every bot on the market is new, refurbished, and actually, never used! It was bought as a present for grandma, but she took a drive to a shop once, maybe twice, and then put it into the garage. Every year though she did full maintenance and weeped the dust daily! Why do you even ask, can't you see for yourself judging by paintjob? It's new, with skull on it!
