Started a new account a few months ago. First I gave up as I was stuck with robots leveled too high and gold spent wrong. Thinking back, stalkers at that time were a great annoyance, dancing around everyone and making life miserable. That was before we had the spider-bots and the brit-bots of course.
I became aware that I very seldom see stalkers nowadays, and they are taken down by pilots who can deal a good amount of splash damage. Is that only my impression, or have players lost their interest in stalkers?
As I have one shelved which needs to be upgraded, I wonder if it is worth the wait.

I don't have a stalker. IMO they are little more than an annoyance. They are fast and run from most fights since they only have 2 light weapons. They are good for capping beacons, tying up the other team for a few seconds, and thats about it. I wouldn't bother upgrading one.

They also got a tier upgrade as well. Use to be you could play stalkers pretty darn low, not anymore.

I have a stalker. I only use it when messing around platooning. I do see less of them now, but they are still largely in play in gold.

I still see several in the tiers my 6/8.5 hanger drops me in. Sometimes 3 or 4 at a time... in those games if you are on a team of randoms, they are rarely won. They can take beacons and run away without being hit. Then pop out and hit with very high level Mags or Aphids... a level 6 Plasma Griff is easy meat for a competent Stalker pilot with level 11 or 12 weapons.
And even if it is just one... they can still be a PITA to kill if the pilot is good. They deffo have the capability to cause more than an annoyance. Granted, not every pilot is good enough to do that... but it still can/does happen.
In my Brit Bots I just swat at em like a fly till they screw up and I get the opportunity to kill them un-stealthed and out of cover. But in, say, a Tri Carney? I HATE to see those little buggers <350m away.

Stalkers have a use in high gold with teamwork I see them all the time, a stalker can cap or liberate a contested beacon where any other bot would be demolished by multiple players targeting them thanks to the stealth. They can also use speed to cap or liberate a beacon away from the front as a distraction. Other than that I haven't found a good use other than annoyance.
I love when they try to run up, circle and I swat them because I can still follow and lead my individual hardpoints onto their bot even at point blank. A maxed rdb griff at point blank range should be able to kill a maxed mag stalker and still have more than half it's health left. Tip: walk forwards then use the movement stick in the opposite direction to step backwards(not rotating your legs) across their field of view and repeat, most players will miss enough that you can swat them even easier.

I still see a fair few in low gold and they still seem effective armed with high level Mag's,they cap a lot of beacons and can cause problems for a team trying to take them back,i have one in my hanger stuck at level six but haven't used it in a good while.
The Stalker is one of them bots that take a long time to master piloting but when you do they can be an asset for your team.

I use to play with a guy in a clan pre mag nerf, 5 slot maxed mag stalkers.. one of the other members had 5 slots of maxed trident furies but that's another story. If he played that stalker hanger we were guaranteed a beacon win unless playing top clans with their best players on comms, even without us having a full squad. If used correctly with teamwork they can be decisive.

Thanks for all the answers and good advice. My stalker will stay shelved for now and I put priority on upgrading my weapons further.

One of the reasons why you don't see them all that often is because of the predominance of shielded bots and splash damage weps. Personally I failed at the stalker (I have one); too aggressive.

I hate it when those times a well coordinated random team filled with these little buggers and just cap every single beacon and our team is having a very hard time recapping and defending with our big heavies and when that happens 1-2 minutes pass and blue team lose.

In my experience, aphid stalker and pinata stalker are super annoying and actually do some damage. Mag stalkers are sort of annoying and not that effective especially with all the shiled bots these days.

Pinata stalkers can be annoying, but their damage isn't too great. Aphid stalkers are a real pain and are worth hunting down . Everytime I run an aphid stalker, the enemy team will collaborate and go to the nth degree to take it out of the match

If you can attract 2-3 reds to chase you around for more than 2 minutes, that's a win for the stalker. Think main purpose of stalker is causing distraction more so than causing damage.

I go for stalkers wherever possible as they generally know what beacons are, and I don't like that . It's also kinda fun to run troll bots like these every once in a while

I still see quite a few in my tier, I run 6/7 heavies with one or two 6/9 Stalkers. Admittedly I'm most effective with Aphids as opposed to Mags or Pinatas.
As much as I adore Stalkers the fact still remains that they have a loooooooong list of exploitable weaknesses. I just so happen to have succumbed to pretty much every single one.
