Like martial arts, the effectiveness of a mech depends on the pilot, not the mech. There are of course some obvious pro's and con's, but what I've found during the recent event is the significant increase in the intensity of battles forced us to refine our skills more quickly. With respect to Butch, it depends really on if you wanna focus on LR or a combo of LR/MR, and it doesn't have to be one or the other, obviously you can change it to suit mood. What I have found as the most effective use of Butch is to stay near cover, keep moving, and have a load out of 2 trebs/2 zeus, 2 thunder/2zeus. It is inevitable in the majority of battles that a MR-SR knife fight will start, so having the shorter ranged zeus or thunder is excellent, particularly due to low countdowns.
I see people complaining here and there about Butch. Rather than complaining and blaming the supposed inadequacies of a mech, we need to examine the inadequacies of our piloting the particular mech we're complaining about, seriously. There is a lot to be said about the many subtle nuances of piloting - knowing your ranges well, how to use each weapon effectively, knowing timing, positioning, countdowns, effective use of terrain for cover and mobility and so on. I know I'm singing to the choir, but why complain about the coolest looking mech in the hangar gathering dust when you can enjoy refining the skills to pilot such a beast to great effect. Your team needs your skillful piloting of Butch. Same goes for all the mechs including Jesse and Doc.
Time ta git er done. Boooom Boooom, Boooom Boooom!
And about complaining about the mech - I noticed that most people tend to play this game like a 3d-shooter, just walk straight to enemy, maybe take some cover, and shoot, shoot, shoot.
Then judge bots purely by HP+firepower.
That's why all the hate towards Jesse, Doc, Cossack and all praise for Britbots.
And every new bot is judged purely by it's ability to withstand firefight against Galahad in the center of the Shenzhen.
And opinions like "you are better off with a Galahad and a Gareth than with 5th slot".
Then this trend continues on maps, where people "hate Springfield", "hate Yamantau", "hate snipers" because these are not particularly good for squishy BritBots.
And all the hate to the Trident Fury, because BritBot can't get a hold of it.
But I am sure that new gamemodes will bring some justice, and BritBot lovers would get their share of pure deathmatch arena, and diverse players could finally enjoy their beacon run.
