Matchmaker continues to puzzle and annoy me. This is my normal hangar:  When I make one change, to swap out one of my Pattons for a 6/5 Griffin, just to experiment with a heavy, all of a sudden matchmaker puts me up against enemy teams that look like this:  |

Sometimes it is not you but the opponent - look at their win rate. There are some hypotheses that when your win rate gets into 50%s or lower, you will face lower ranked opponents.
Nothing proven, just observations based on looking at hangers people post on odd matches they've had.

I have a heck of a time getting my % down near 50. I mean literally, I can camp and not fire a shot and still average 55. Don't know how some end up in the 30's. Luck of the draw on teams I suppose.

I feel you. I run low silver and only low silver now. I have several hangers worth of bots and weapons now that are all high silver/low gold, but with my win rate I see near maxed hangers with all of them. Every once in a while I'll trot a higher hanger out only to be reminded why I stay in low silver, where at least the players have poor enough skill. I can usually net some gold even though they're running 6/6 heavies against my 4/7 Ag mediums.
Nothing like closing in for a kill and repeatedly getting your rear ended handed to you because the opposing player happens to lose a lot of games. Welcome to High Silver, where win rates go to die.

I swear you are drawing from the bottom of the stupid bin to assemble my teams.
Imagine if you will, a sunny day in Springfield. You've fast capped 3 with your first bot. On your second bot as you are heading out (blue spawn near/on the roundish catwalk) to recap and and engage, you look over at the bridge leading to center beacon. In the middle of the bridge are 4 blues, clustered together and looking like a bunch of baby chickens, or seal pups cowering together out in the open. 2 mixed range nats and 2 others I couldn't even tell behind the nats. Your 5th mate never showed.
I wanted to be red with a trident right then.
Sorry blue, I can't save this one, I'm out. No use spending the time or data on that one.

MM punishes players for high win percentage and damage numbers, and can seem very sensitive to hangar configurations at higher levels of performance. I had to tune down some weapons on my 4/7 mediums to restore some sanity to the matchmaking. At 80%+ win rate and 4/5,5,7,7 mediums I still see an endless stream of enemy Leos and Natashas piloted by guys with under 40% win rate. If I replace one of my meds with a Leo of my own, then I see enemy WSP/Au bots with strong weapons on a regular basis. In general, running a single heavy in your hangar just isn't worth the opponent inflation that comes with it.

I was running 3/6 boas mismatched with 4/6 cossacks for the cap speed. Never ending new heavy pilots, smeared with a few rhinos and occasional carnage. I know I'm getting punished when the fully decked rhinos are on the charge.

The most significant mismatches seem to come when they are squadded up as a clan. You'd think matchmaker would take it the other way and make life hard for them since they are grouped. Ah well, such is life. |
