Taking a virgin beacon early in the game is faster than liberating a red beacon (see FAQ). Hence it is vital to rush to the two or three closest beacons right from the start. Unnecessary to say you do not run into a space if it is already held by several enemy bots. I notice that some players first look around who is on their team and then make up their mind what they should do. Thus they loose valuable time. For all who do not know yet: You can look around during the count down sequence. On dead city, you can take an 180° degree turn to peek at hostiles names and check if you face a clubber clan. Don't wast time. Look around during countdown. Make up your mind and know where to go before the game starts. If there are (hopefully) beacon cappers on your team and closer to a beacon, choose to take another beacon. Those taran/orkan cossaks do their job usually very well.

Looking around doesn't tell you what your comrades intentions are.
I was playing Yamato the other day. In a carnage and there was a stalker as well. When we started moving the stalker started towards the centre beacon. So I started towards the side beacon, only to find an oblivious to those around him Boa slowly plodding in that direction.
So be it, I let the boa get that beacon and went to support the stalker in his quest for the centre.
In Shenzhen I will often make a beeline for the centre beacon, hoping to get there before the opposition can set up defences.

I do look around during countdown and I do already have a plan of what I'm going to do based on which map and what bot I start with. But like moody said, you don't know what your teammates are going to do, and I might change my action based on what I see them doing. Also, lots of times all my teammates aren't even there when the countdown reaches 0. Often one or two drop in just as or just after I start moving.

I always look around to see what the other blues are running. But like others have said, that doesn't tell me where there are going. I generally prefer to team up with someone else. Some weapons I'll run off alone with. Other times I want someone else around to finish the red my aphids just took 1/2 to 3/4 of their HP. That way I can move on to the next target instead of waiting to reload, destroying them, waiting to reload again, and move on the next target.

Good tip OP, especially checking out if there are clubber clans.
For high tier, its to see what bots drop, if you see some shield bots, then drop rockets, if you see small bots, drop the plasma, etc.

I had a purchase/upgrade plan laid out, but I may end up grabbing a Cossack to cap beacons early in the match. I've been doing as this thread suggests more and more over the past few days, and i've become more sensitive to my teammates erratic play. I've been on the losing side of quite a few close battles that involved beacons remaining uncapped for unreasonable amounts of time.
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem I suppose.

I look around the countdown to see who are the snipers and cappers. My Pattons and Boas are slow and the only time I can grab beacons is because a team of noobs who are quicker than I am just take cover nearby and no one else is grabbing the nearest beacon.
My Boa is useful for snatching hostile beacons since I can take a bit of hit while someone on my team is drawing Red's attention away from me.
The frustrating bit is seeing knife fighting bots who behave like snipers. Sometimes I even try to lead by example by running forward hoping someone would follow but I always failed because my team mates remain near spawn point while I get nailed by 4 bots at a time.

I feel your pain! Lol! I found that adding a second beacon capper for mid to late game helps. I usually start with a beacon capper, then my knife fighters for damage and control. But it's nice to have that late game speed when you need it.
