At least, that's what I think. Music is special, to almost all of us. It goes to our heart, right from our ears and often it don't even take the detour over the brain. So, here's what I want to know: What is your most appreciated, most loved, most heard song. And what I also want to know: Why?
Of course, I go first. My favorite song is Mr Bojangles, performed by Samy Davis Jr. It's a song, celebrating life. A man, that don't let his life break himself. He went to jail, but he still can dance. He can still jump, and he's doing it. Whatever will come up, he can handle it. That is the very soul oft this song.
How about you? Love music, like I do? Tell me, please...

This question, I have so many answers I can give to this question, but I can only pick one?
Fine here goes, at the present moment, it's "Black Gold Reign" by All Shall Perish Because there's just so much guitar melody in it especially in the solo, and as a fellow guitarist myself, with a nearly unhealthy love for music, I like it

You can give it your all. You like five Songs? Gimme five answers. There's no limit. There's just music. Right now, I so love Lindsey Stirling, Shadows. Next week, I hear coldplay, or something else. It's music, Art, so who cares?

There's just too many to list here. Or maybe I really haven't found a single song that rises above the rest

I'm sorry to say that song lyrics have never really done anything for me. I get the concept but it is not me.
If I want a story I will read a story.
That being said I love music. I play bass and have a love of melody and how it interacts with harmony.
Therefore I listen to bands with a similar outlook to my own - where the lyrics mean less than how they sound.
My favourite individual song 'And you and I' by Yes. (a band which also has a very definite bass presence).

My favorite would be Roundabout by Yes. Love the keyboard solo at the beginning and the build up.
Some other favorites would be: Rainbow in the Dark by Dio Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap by ACDC Tusk by Fleetwood Mac

SOOOO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM! Great thread idea!
OK, some favorites from the mellow side... I'll throw in some of the other stuff I like if the thread keeps going:
Royksopp - Running to the Sea (Seven Lions Remix) Why I like it: Haunting vocals and one of the chillest remixes (chill, but I dare say there is a hint of metal influence towards the end) of a live song I have heard... I can lose myself in it.
Mad Season - Wake Up Why I like it: It sums up a period of my life, while at the same time I have memories attached to it that I won't get into. Plus, I love the interplay between the band... that bassist and drummer get it.
Crywolf - Ghosts Why I like it: Another haunting song... the arrangement and vocals are just soul stirring.
DJ Shadow - Six Days Why I like it: The awesome Brush Snare solo-ish parts, the old retro feel, the discord between the chill music and the minimal, yet, terror inducing lyrics.

I'm a big Dixie Dregs, Flying Colors, Dream Theater and King Crimson listener. Being a drummer that means either moody and I would get along great or we'd be at each others throats.

Being able to play together with somebody I have found has little to do with how well you get on. I will say that while I am a bass player and listen to prog rock, but that doesn't mean my skill levels are extreme. I am in an Alice Cooper tribute band and get by, but that is pretty much the limit of my playing ability. A drummer of a higher skill level might be put of by my in time, but pedestrian, playing.

AC had some great players pass through his band. If you're expressive, in key, in time, show up on time and sober all is good. All that being said I've been away from it far too many years now to pick it up again. Almost all of what I was ever involved in was instrumental stuff. Seeing how the music biz and booking people handled unsigned bands when I lived LA was just plain cruel.
Anyhow, back OT, here's one I've seen played live probably a dozen times, but it never ceases to amaze me. Light years beyond anything I could do.

No chance in hell could I pick one or even five songs as all time favourites, I'm a fickle with what I love as over time it changes. I dance the Argentine Tango and DJ so music is especially enthralling to me <3 one friend described my tastes as "melancholy" but what I actually love is when something can make me *feel* and this is especially true for music. When I dance with someone being able to channel the feeling of the song is what's important to me. Here's some random (current favourites) Something a little bit jazzy and if you like it, check out "Satellite / Stealing Time" as it seems to be a crowd pleaser Something a little more mainstream, sad and tells a storyHow I love the movie Gladiator, Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard were a match made in musical heaven. I love too many tracks from the film but something you guys may not have heard is an earthy version of "Now we are free" Something a little tango now, certainly music from Argentine Tango is hard to understand but when a person understands it then it opens up a new world Another tango, sorry about the quality but I am secretly in love with the Dancer Noelia Hurtado plus this song is just too much fun to dance

This may or may not be interesting to you, but here is something from one of the early pioneers of electronica. He did a lot of work for Amiga and Commofore projects way back when. Some of his work was also featured in the game Zoids (Commodore). His work also appears on a lot of Peter Gabriel's older albums.
This is best listened to via headphones and at volume.
