Granted this could be luck, coincidence, my skills improving, or who knows...
My old hangar was: Level 7 Ancilot with Tarans Level 7 Stuka Griffin Level 7 Hydra/Spiral Griffin Level 9 Thunder Carnage Level 9 Orkan/Pinata Gary
It's a decent hangar but I struggled to escape Silver on Android. I was close once, but lost the challenge and always settled on the low end of Silver 1.
New update and I said why not... I was almost done anyways with my all light hangar so I switched:
Level 9 Orkan/Pinata Gary Level 9 Taran/Mag Gary Level 9 Thunder Schutz Level 9 Carnage Trident Level 4 Rog with level 7 Orkans (working on all 9s)
With the new hangar, I reached gold 3 without even noticing. Not only that, I was at times posting higher damage scores.
It's a bit counter intuitive. I thought for certain I would lose rank. The new hangar is... Fragile to say the least. And I may be an ok pilot but not that good.
This makes me wonder... Was it luck? Or am I seeing weaker opponents because my hangar shifted so heavily? Anyone notice anything like this?

Luck for sure. I have tried many ways a few weeks back to test if there was hangar scores. Nothing.

Notice that your weapon's level are significantly higher? That would destroy opponents much quicker. Then you'll make more wins in less time than before, and it means more league points in less time than before, and it means higher league in less time than before...until your winrate is "too high" and MM matches you with more superior opponents than you.

Luck might have something to do with it, but it could also be player preference and inherent capability.
You may just run lights better than you run heavies. It might be that you naturally excel at hit and run (mindset thing) as opposed to moving slowly with heavies.
Also your hydra/spiral griffin is a really weak bot. It does good damage, but has no real battle-field presence, area control, or beacon capping capability. Running it might actually have hindered you and your teammates more than you think. You might have done good damage with it, but it never helped actually capture beacons/win games. I bet you could probably trade the thunder shutze for the ancilot and up your league score even more. The thunder shutze should be replaced with a thunder carnage if you still want that in your line-up... but you'll find out that it's fragile and won't help you advance leagues into expert like the ancilot will.
The carnage trident is a different beast. It actually projects power and forces lanes of control and engagement. I know I try to avoid being in the line of fire of tridents. Hydras/spirals don't do anything to my battle plan... because you can do nothing about it. And they don't do enough damage on their own to stop me from beacon capping...
