It is actually not random but the beacon cap gold is awrded to the player who gets the most beacon FIRST.
That means in a tie, the player who gets to that number of caps first in the course of the game will be awarded.

Be careful tho.
I saw a bunch of people leaving the moment they realized they didnt have a good chance to get most beacons anymore...
I tend to leave the base beacon in Yamantau alone because of these dip「dookie」s :/

I have thought about the getting the beacons first bit was the means by which ties are decided. But i actually think it is whose beacons lasted the longest. Getting the beacons first does play into that, but if a red takes your captured beacon, your timer stopped.

Hmmm... Maybe Foxtrot Charlie can have a comment on this. He would probably argue that it's "random" even though I think he lost 50+ coin flips in a row on beacons.

I tried for months and months with our clan to figure out who gets the beacon gold in a tie. We could not confirm why. I paid attention each match to see who got the beacons first or last or held longest, and we could never find a pattern after tons of matches. I still think it's random.

I thought it was based on control, if you capture or capture/recap and defend a beacon that is pivotal to winning by territory you get more gold. That's how it seems to work in my experience at least.
