Another weapon. 🙄 Imagine if a grav beam and arc-t had a baby.
If only our current weapons and mechs’ implants weren’t stuck behind gotcha mechanisms. No need for new weapons when my current hanger can’t reach its full potential.

Every new update seems to slip this mess further and further down the toilet.

If only our current weapons and mechs’ implants weren’t stuck behind gotcha mechanisms. No need for new weapons when my current hanger can’t reach its full potential. Amen to that. The mechanism on this weapon looks way more annoying than Grav Beams. You have to beam an opponent until it charges up the "blast" shot. But you have to then separately shoot that and then hit the red for it to do damage. The notice that your blast is ready to use is on the fire controls, so you have to keep taking your eyes off your opponents. And I think (not sure) there's a timed window to shoot off the blast before it goes back to beam mode. Seems overly complicated considering we already have GBs.

Hmmm...my GB16 is already maxed....I doubt I would go for another beam weapon unless it's for a light mech hangar.

So, I just took a look at the description and stats of the PB8...basically, on paper, it's a GB8. You do some sustained damage for a couple of seconds and then BOOM, big damage. Sounds like implosion right? Plus, the beam blast travels a bit slower than a sniper shot so even though it's got 200m range, it can miss.
I do see utility in this for light mechs. I finally unlocked a second hangar and am playing around with light mechs again and can totally see me getting this for Tengu or Shadow.

I still don't have my GBs levelled. Seeing this made me rethink my plans and bump them up on the list. Turns out I am like 18 bps shy of doubling my HG16, so I've turned to my EG12. But then I think GB16 is next. I've been seeing more people using it in FFA to rack up kills lately and it's useful for 5v5 too. GB12 and HG12 I'm going to hold off on for a bit as I move to some other stuff. Seems like they are both mainly CPC builds and I only have one pilot for each weapon, so better to go with the tourney earners for now. Since the damage is equal to GBS, I am just going pass on this new thing.

A note on GBs. As with all weapons in this game, they really only shine in certain situations. The best is when you have fast moving targets out in the open. They hit centre mass so if you have someone ducking and hiding, it can be an exercise in futility. This is one of the reasons I've shelved my GB16s for a bit and am focusing on learning EMR16 on my Panther. I'm also playing with EMR12 on Aegis and Ares to keep up the practice. I think I've finally figured out why I can't use them and that's because I got lazy with them when they had that auto-targeting thing and all you had to do was hit the fire button relatively close to a target and maybe nudge your aim a bit and be almost guaranteed a hit.
Anyway, I digress.... GBs are great for charging and brawling with multiple targets out in the open. If you have someone camping, you often have to wait them out and hope a team mate flushes them out. On the flip side, if you use a wide mech like Panther, you can often stick an arm out and use one beam to weaken a target.
