How does the guy on my team just above me with 761,252 damage get more kills and honor points than me with 1,918,948 damage?

Could be for several reasons. Most notably….
Firstly check their league. Higher the league the more honour points they get. Kill stealing. Run of kills vs kills spread over time. You are using healing and weapons like tricksters and deceivers.
At a guess, he had a good run of kill steals.

So I guess he could have been one shotting people who were nearly gone.

I'ma go with a decent kill streak. Beyond godlike/living legend pays out decently on the honour scales.

Yeah, the honor point system has a lot of targets you can hit besides reds. As pointed out, killstreaks count for a lot, but there's a few other things that can add up too.

The two main things that could be responsible are kill streaks and healing. Healing a lot generally and getting number one healer on your team both net some honor, while kill streaks grant much more honor than individual kills (like, a lot more). Given the guy had nine kills, I bet a mean kill streak is the culprit here.

Kill streaks might definitely explain the high honor points, but being near the bottom on damage while having the most kills and also having zero beacons made me wonder what was going on.

Sounds like the guy was just camping with a ranged bot and was kill stealing. Gotta love that!
