Ok, I've stated that I hated the Nade Launchers for a while. I wanted to love them so bad when they first came out and invested a lot to get my NL12 cloned and then promptly hated it. They do kinda sorta work on Surge - actually works on Surge very well if you trick out the damage as much as possible - but I couldn't get them to work on other mechs.
Well, I'm running them on Aegis right now just so that I can get the extra 10 pilot marks a day cause the rest of my pilots in my hangar are maxed, so I'm working on my other pilots that I don't have maxed. These include Neymar Jr, Major and Impulse. Anyway, today, I finally clued in on NL's strength. You know how DLs are great for those around the corner shots if you break lock? And they really suck of you're at a different elevation than your target? Well, actually, they're good if your target is higher but they suck if they are lower...unless you break lock of course. Anyway, NL is for those times when you are at a different elevation or you have low cover or a small hill between you and the reds. Add an indoor map to discourage JR and HR and boom, you literally have the only gun that can hit in that instance. Throw in a mech like Aegis and the possibilities are great!
I had originally planned on DL8/16 for the Aegis and had even started running my Guardian with RG16 again, but now I'm rethinking this entirely.

I’ve noticed some the newer tourney maps seem ideal for taking advantage of launchers. Seeing more red AI with them too.
I’m tempted to try cryo launchers but it seems to take a full clip to get the stasis to effect enemy mechs. Tw-thirds of a clip sounds more reasonable to me.
Please share if you plan to invent in made launchers. I’d be interested in what you think of them along the way.

just so that I can get the extra 10 pilot marks a day cause the rest of my pilots in my hangar are maxed Does that mean you normally get the 50 marks bonus for 5 completed pilot tasks by buying a 3rd implant in the store? I always skip the "Get 3 implants" one to save credits. I actually just started having to equip Impulse for the 4,000 pilot XP task this week. I'm still leveling my Baron, but I like to run two levelling pilots so I can get all my dailies done in 3 matches. Problem is that I still only have one R4 NL12 and even on Orion that's not enough punch. Since it's just for a few matches I'm trying instead just pairing her with my MR12s. No implant or weapon bonuses, but I think it might be ok for now. I am just not going to get to upgrading my NL12s for a while, but I'd like her levelled more for when I finally do.

Yeah, I was missing the pilot XP task so I was missing out on 10 pilot marks for a long time cause the pilots in my hangar were all maxed. But, I got the 50 marks by aggressively buying blue implants whenever I was flush with credits. Took a few months but I managed to build almost back to what I had before the free implant removal went away. Of course, I've splurged again and am back down in implant parts.
Anyway, I just picked up Baron today so looks like I don't have to purposely run pilots I don't normally run anymore. I tried Aegis with EMR12 (totally forgot I had the EMR12 cloned) with Maverick for a couple of games today and was surprised that it worked well. Then, I tried Redeemer with NL12 and lo and behold, I think I love this build! The Redeemer is fast enough that I can run from cover to cover and can look for those firing places that are ideal for NL12. Then, I can Backtrack if I get targeted. Backtracking and watching a full salvo of HR or JR missiles miss me is hilarious!

Ok, I'm going to revive this thread cause I think I've played with NL12 now post buff to give a better feedback on it.
I'm still not in love with this weapon, but I'm liking it a lot now. In a lot of ways, it's like the DL series except that it's vertical instead of horizontal. The closest weapon to it would be the RPG series.
Ok, things I like about it:
- bigger splash now means more hits, even out to 80m and beyond. I've gotten hits and kills as far out as 90m but I think that's due to the target walking into my barrage. - damage seems to have gotten a boost too, but I can't remember any numbers - bigger splash also means that in a brawl, I don't have to aim or wait for the red bracket and simply spray and pray - good against Eclipse and Surge too. - no warning indicator for my target, so I often pick a target, look which direction it's walking in and unload in it's path. - fast reload, especially compared to the MR series...in the Eclipse, I can get off two barrages per stealth run. - it plays differently depending on the mech you use. For example, on Eclipse, I'm super versatile but mostly play aggressive...on Aegis, it's defensive and plays the role of area denial with a bit of a brawl surprise - because it doesn't have a lock on like DL, you can manually aim where you want the shots to land so they don't all hit cover
Things I don't like but have learned to adjust: - not good in indoor situations unless it's CQC range - figuring out the arc is a work in progress but you get the hang of it after using it for a while. Basically, the further the target, the higher the arc. - in CQC, the explosions can blind me and cover my screen...kinda like I'm "Solis'ing" myself. - can't really do the whole "stick arm out of cover thing" cause the nades will hit cover and you'll waste your ammo...or you'll stick too much out and get sniped.
That's pretty much it...oh, I don't have gold implants for this and haven't really felt the need. I use Impulse and have purple damage implant. This thing is powerful enough on it's own. Where I do feel the need for more power is usually when I'm in Aegis and get sucked into CQC and full frontal engagements.
When compared to the MR12, the MR12 is the better CQC weapon hands down, but the NL12 is a good all round weapon at multiple ranges. Where it shines is when you can plant yourself behind low cover and arc your shots into approaching reds. Virtually every shot that hits the ground instead of the target will count as a side or back hit, which is why this weapons seems to do more damage at mid range instead of point blank range.
Oh, another plus...not many humans seem to use this, so when I encounter humans on the other side, I often feel like they don't know how to deal with me...especially if I get them in my sweet spot with a hill or incline between us. That plus the lack of warning puts the odds in my favour. I can also often flush out campers with this and that's always fun!

I use NLs a lot and mostly go for cqc or short to mid range targets. Really good weapon. In indoor maps I will use it in place of Helix.

Interesting footnote on the NL...
I have discovered that it will correctly range an Eclipse in stealth mode. I've surprised more than one or two human pilots who thought I wouldn't be able to, and brazenly stepped out into the open to engage me. Oops! 🤣 Their range doesn't register, but the grenades will hit the target regardless.

Oops! 🤣 Their range doesn't register, but the grenades will hit the target regardless. Yep! I forgot to mention that was why they are good against Surge and Eclipses. It is possible to manual aim the NLs in CQC up to mid range or so. Try this by yourself in a custom game. Without a target, the nades will drop exactly where you point your cross hairs. If you arc them high, they will automatically go their full range but if you point them at something in sight, they will hit. Couple of my fave tactics are: 1. In Eclipse, go into cloak and run and gun a group of reds, or spray and pray against a red in stealth. 2. In Aegis, drop the dome shield on an advancing red and trap them in it while I back away and blast them. Against humans, it's hilarious and I often get an angry face. Human Eclipse pilots seem to think the dome shield is like the Panther's stasis field and that they are immune to stasis...so they run right up or run into my dome shield, but when I back out, they realize too late that they are trapped. This sometimes works against Surge too if I see them coming and can back out of the dome when they dash in. The time it takes for them to get out of the dome and fire at me sometimes helps me survive the EMP and fire back. I don't always survive but at least I got some licks in.
