I'm not complaining, but it's 5v5 again this week.
Did they finally realize FFA is a really crappy game mode, and pretty much the only game mode where SP dropping still actually does something?
They ~have~ fixed the MM in that it always loads AI for current appropriate SP/hangar slots available. The only thing that was still being abused was using the SP averaging to shoehorn a max Killshot into a weak hangar to basically have an unkillable zip-splat for 300+ pts a game.
I always hated FFA. The maps made specifically for FFA suck, every map was basically "find and camp the few spawns where things can't spawn directly behind you"
Fingers crossed it stays in the dumpster.

Holy moly. Either something in FFA broke, or putting up 5v5 was a mistake. All of the new derby tasks for the day are win FFA matches 😂🤣

OMG! 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah I've wondered for a while if whoever runs events lacks a calendar app, or has a drinking problem or what. There are a decent amount of scheduling errors that occur for something that should be a routine administrative task.
I'm stoked that I get to play Agoura and Hanging Gardens! I do wish it was a week later though when my new sniper pilot would be higher ranked.
Totally disagree on FFA. I mean to each their own, but I enjoy it a bunch except for the tankers. Especially because I am not getting boxed in and jostled by AI teammates. Yes, it's mostly about sniping and DLs but you can definitely go mobile and wreck with Surge. Also the fact that it is every other week makes it easy to build a hangar that is a consistent earner. You only have to plan for and practice 3 maps, so it is a good revenue generator. Bracket tankers are really the only big downside, for me at least.

Bracket tankers are really the only big downside, for me at least. As someone that is staying off of my main account I hit the lottery and can burn like $300 in one sitting to un-nerf my hangar from the grade update, FFA is just a week where my 3 Mech account only gets 200 acoins. The account I have the most sunken into has most of what I own at R5 or higher, so I can't even scale my hangar back to avoid the MM bracket where everything but my bastion dies just because I blinked, or a de-sync says I wasn't adequately hiddenm There are specific areas where it's possible to circle about and "be mobile" with surge, but every moment of being uncloaked is sitting behind cover in a way that blocks a spawn. The middling SP between 7k-9k is absolute horsepiss because it's one of those spaces where most AI are invested heavily into legendary pilots/mods on otherwise mediocre leveled gear.

Yeah, I found my satisfaction went up a lot when my hangar broke 10k SP or maybe 9500ish. Hard to recall especially because they redid the SP scale at some point. The MM can still be harsh, but overall getting to an endgame hangar mellows out the game some.
What annoys me now most in tournament is all the small maps. 5v5 was a lot better before the last couple rounds of new maps, including putting the 2v2 Neon maps in there. Just getting jostled around all the time, pushed into fire, and then getting half my shots blocked by AI, really starts to wear on me.

I don't think FFA is gone cause they apparently fixed a bug with it. Maybe we don't have it this week because of the update?
IDK, I was finally getting used to it and was actually starting to do well. I discovered that it was all about finding the right spot with my back to a wall. Redox actually did really well in a lot of the maps but I've since switched to Guardian. Play style is similar but with variances. Once my Guardian dies, I switch to Eclipse and Surge and then Panther. My KS is useless in FFA, hence I'm trying to replace it with Redeemer.

I'll be making some changes to this once my Eclipse is maxed, but I have been running this for a while in FFA and it has served me well. I realize we all have different inventories but if folks are looking for ideas to try out, here you go. Listed out here in general drop order. Generally I want something that is expendable but can go on a killing streak for the first mech, and usually something that is effective but dies easily for last slot, so my hangar refreshes. Koalabear I know you'll like #5 for Freeside. Red Shift (industrial map) 1) Guardian DL16 2) Panther RG16 3) Stalker DL12 4) Surge AT12 5) Onyx DL12+DL16 Of all my openers Guardian DL16 on this map is the one that most often can last most of the match and rack up solid kills. The Onyx actually lasts longer than I want it to but with a lower kill rate, but so far I don't have anything that works better. The ability is pretty handy on this map picking off weak targets. Both Panther and Stalker are monsters up in the 2nd floor corner pocket spawns. Atlas Foyer (hotel) 1) Stalker DL12 2) Panther RG16 3) Surge AT12 4) Bastion EMR12 / MG12 5) Guardian DL16 Stalker usually dies quick but with a kill or maybe a few. Experimenting with MG12s on the Bastion as a different sniper style but EMR12 works well in the right spots. I actually find it is better to go roving with the Guardian DL16 than stay in a sniper position. Freeside (open air) 1) Stalker DL12 2) Surge AT12 3) Guardian RG16 4) Panther EMR16 5) Paragon DL16 Paragon DL16 is actually a little badazz on this map! Total secret. Yeah it can die ultrafast (fine for 5th mech), but it can also hang on and kick butt. The ability is awesome for running around the little barrier wall in the middle of each pocket. Definitely gone round and round and wiped out everything chasing me. No one expects it! 😁 Stalker can also last and be a terror if things start out right. EMR16s are what I like least but others wreck with them.
