Like most players I have mechs and weapons under par level wise, since returning to the game I have more or less stuck to the same hanger of nearly maxed stuff just to be competitive as possible.
I am wanting to have a break and run different stuff in my hanger just to shake things up,a four star Orion,5 star Jav 8's and just some older stuff in general to mix things up.
I have read MM takes your total inventory score and finds opponents or AI of similar levels, this would probably result in very short games and a lot of frustration,so do you guys mix up your hanger just for a change and how do you go about it without becoming target practice for any opponents on the field.

So I tweaked my hanger and the results are below, the first three games were a result of my AI team getting botted out leaving me solo,in fairness the fourth game my team mate left the game, the last one was two opponents with high level D/L's 12-16's,and Helix which tore my team apart. Seems the game is stuck in a rut with only maxed items worthy of play, anything else is not worth considering and we all know the grind and cost to level things up. I'm trying to not get bored with the game by being stuck with the same five bots and same set of weapons but I don't see a way out.

Yeah, I mixed my hanger up last week for a while and got some serious beatdowns for a few games. It’s an interesting observation. Often, if I haven’t played for a bit, the first two matches I have are made to lose affairs. So, this just could be nothing.
My gameplay has been really down for two weeks. I think I’ve grown tired of a number of things: 1) I rarely perceive myself as being a deciding factor in a match. It’s MM, MM, MM. don’t get the warm and fuzzies like I did in the development, early release days. 2) I’m sick and tired of the insta-death the AI dished out. Good grief. Tired of having mechs in my hanger disappear seconds after spawning. Bring some durability back Plarium.

The MM doesn't use your total hangar score for anything.
It works off of your MAXIMUM USABLE SQUAD POWER.I say this because my smurfs is still using R1 Paragon and Lancer, but t2(green gear) hasn't started appearing on AI, despite the minuscule power increase of ranking weapons up, active and inventory.
If you have a set of R6 mechs and weapons to arm them, the MM will always use that squad power. Since my main account has had gold bordered stuff since before the change, I don't know if the new teirs make a difference in what the AI spawns.
They ~may~ have made it so that higher teir gear doesn't spawn on AI until that gear is unlocked by the player, but it's more likely that it doesn't matter what "rarity" the mechs capable of the highest possible squad power are. Meaning, someone that takes Blue border mechs to R6 without any gold border gear is still going to get the curb stomp.
No way to know because we've been here for years, and only the people that started recently will know, years from now.

Bring some durability back Plarium. Outside of Redeemer and Orion, Gold teir gear has 50K+ health advantage on everything below it, before the matter of pilots being a % health increase. Bastion, Brickhouse, and Gatectasher purposely make everything else look squishy.

I haven't played much recently, just for the dailies. However I have arranged my hangar with that mech with the vertical shield, Surge, Onyx, Orion and Surge. Weapons range from MR8 to that replacement for Javs and Jav8. And I've been hitting about .500 in the games I play, mostly cpc. My sp is way down, about 2700. Nothing is near max except.maybe the Jav8s. I find mechs count for more sp than weapons anyway. I was also bored with my first line mechs, plus there was an Onyx event.
Edit: Actually I didn't have Surge in my hangar, just the other four mechs I mentioned. Since yesterday I added Tengu with Javs4 and 6. A bit over 3000 sp now and I'm enjoying cpc with the setup. Iirc none of my currently active in hangar mechs is more than 4 stars.

After digging up a few of my older accounts:
The MM is going off the highest ranked mechs you can field in a squad, and likely by the new teir system even if it's not currently implemented across all accounts.
An old alt with a hangar that tops off with three R4 mechs saw AI between 3.7 and 4.7
An alt with just Jug, Lancer and paragon at R2 saw Teir2 mechs and weapons fromn1.7 to 2.7.
The new MM is heavily favored towards the new progression system, and anyone that has maxed or near maxed gear before the gear heirarchy + teired gear hub alternative to the progress path, is locked in to fighting bots with pinnacle mechs, weapons and pilots.
Beta players that have anything less than the likes of Mayer, are exclusively fighting whales and whale provoking AI, with the only balanced players being other Beta players in the same predicament.
They've rebalance the entire game, and game progression. Rushing progression for new players will have them hit a wall, with progressive pay walls.
Middling players (no gold border mechs) with R4-5 hangars have a chance to stabilize.
Old heads, or anyone with R6 gear, are pretty much stuck with "buy and max out this new thing or perish".

Yea, the unspoken "progress" path of the new gear progression is weapons before mechs. The EN a hangar can field and the teir it sits in > everything else.

Yep that's why I said total inventory score not hanger,I can understand that as it stops players tanking down levels as we all saw happen in War Robots, the downside is it narrows down gameplay choice and as such FUN !!!. I sometimes think about purchasing some of these 2 star weapons and bots that are in the store, but I did get Orion that way when I came back to the game and between BP,s and A coins it's a pointless exercise as it will take an eternity or a big payment just to get them battle ready. The way to bring some hanger change is events,I wish someone at Plarium would think outside the box and look at the bigger picture in terms of fun rather than grind grind grind.
