When my oldest son was just a little bean, we used to watch an exceedingly gentle cartoon called " Oswald" back when NickJr was a wholesome channel w/o commercials. Oswald (voiced by Fred Savage) was slow-paced and great for a tired parent to nap to for little kids' developing minds about the hapless misadventures of a giant blue octopus and his pet Dachsund, Weenie (inside joke for those who watched The Wonder Years in the late 80's). He had a buddy named Henry (voiced by David Lander of Laverne & Shirley fame) who would periodically exclaim, "What goes on here, Oswald?" when some strangeness was afoot. I couldn't help but have Henry's voice voice pop into my head multiple times over the last 24 hours. With my somewhat underleveled, largely off-meta hanger I found myself crossing the threshold into Master 1 and am now 1/3 of the way to the Champ barrier.
While it's certainly debatable whether it's a good idea to keep going (it isn't), the sadist in me wants to know how far I can take this flaming 「dookie」show. I've been trying to figure out how much of this is due to any of the following reasons: 1. Decreasing number of players in the game. 2. Decreasing quality of players in the game. 3. Preponderous number of accounts that should be in M2+ but which are permitted to languish in Expert and/or M3.
I'll humbly submit that I'm good at leveraging the beacon-capturing and healing aspects of Honor accumulation, but it surprises me that I'm climbing like a rocket with no signs of slow-down. Also notable is that over the last week, I'm rarely dropping more than 3 mechs + Titan, that my win rate is currently 58%, and that my total end-game score has been largely over 4M and is frequently over 6M.
It might look like I'm humble-bragging, but I'm not. This legitimately baffles me. I really would suspect that I shouldn't be this competitive. That I am is truly bizarre.

Good topic and I offer up your mirror image in terms of "League Ranking Oddity." Similar concept off an meta hanger. Scorpion, Fafnir and Fenrir have been around a good long while. Radiation Guns have been around a bit but certainly not top of the line Meta. I've been running these since they came out which is why they are MK2.12 or MK3. I've messed around with the weapons and this is where I landed. Same with Ares. Been around a while and running all kinds of stuff and now the NEW Lasers. Gives a bit of new life and excitement to old Ares. The tetradactyl of a Titan I run is just that... a dinosaur with some reasonably good weapons at range. My obvious nod to the META is my kitted out IMUGI. This is the first high end bot I've had in a LONG time. Captivated by the mechanics... still trying to optimize use of the teleport and have yet to see a teammate use it! I like how it looks and the aesthetics of this game are important. The new Lasers are fun... too much Star Trek as a kid. I ditched the META chase (and Clans... actually followed MUNKEEEE out of the same Clan) long ago. It was either quit the game or find a more sane way to "enjoy" it. To be transparent I do have 1,856 Champion Trophies. Once I decided to not chase META I dropped out of Champions League and through Masters like a like a 15 Ton Anchor. All the way to Expert. Have been living, rather happily, at the low end of Masters 3. I rarely get above 50%... ever so briefly... and mostly live in the mid-40's. Never quit a game. I'm on IOS (iPAD) and I'm in SE Asia (Vietnam) so running on the Asia Server. Your post was interesting because I wonder what it would take to again start to climb... rhetorical question as generally it would be Angler, Nether, Nuts etc. Usual stuff. As far as the competition in lower Masters 3 it is everything from Champion S Clans to low level Experts running MK3 Meta Gear. The CHN and KOR players are all over the place. In short a complete S@#$ Show. Anyway, thought your situation and mine made for a nice comparison.  |

 After just enjoying this unexpected score and realizing we got screwed by another tanker, I couldn’t help but wonder where I sit in the rankings.  I’d be lying if I didn’t admit the chorus of this song started running through my head. |

That is strange. IMO you can believe that you’re a GOD playing out of your mind and smashing the world or you can KNOW that this evil AI controlled game is toying with your perceptions
I have a cat and mouse approach to the MM algorithms, if the game is consistently pitting me against stronger competition I play my weaker stuff and ride the wave downward. Help it along!
If the opposite occurs I play my best droned up gear and ride it the other way. Screw the MM and its malevolent ways, and equally screw the totally dysfunctional league ranking garbage. I say play BACK at the beast so you can stay where you want.

This whole game is becoming………….……. *ding ding ding* one big joke. becoming?  it's been one big joke after another for years hence why most of the decent players have left and moved on , if they delt with the hackers again they would lose 50% or more of the playerbase now ......if they actually fixed matchmaking they would have those that PAY crying that they can't win against BETTER players ....but they SHOULD win right?!?!? they paid after all!
this is the way its been for as long as i can remember!

I’m under no illusions that I control my destiny. That said, I can tweak it. High damage + bacon + healing = elevated league ranking
With this, I’m getting a lot of bacon, a ton of healing, and respectable damage. Just further shows how broken everything is. I’m not so much reveling on how amazing I am (I’ve long become used to my awesomeness) as much as I’m curious to watch the 「dookie」show unfold. I’ve come this far, I might as well stick it out before going back to Zenits and Hydras.

last night i had 3 straight losses, each with a player dropping out early intentionally to tank...
had full high mk2/mk3 stuff too and definitely woulda help
