Even when they do something good and positive and beneficial this game still, in some way, manages to frustrate me no end; Here`s just a few examples;
1. Over the years I`ve sold no end of SE weapons, because they were so fugly, after levelling enough standard ones. Then they eventually decided, as was always blatantly obvious to everyone else, SE weapons should get 5% more damage.
2. Ages ago I levelled a Titan Repair Module because I always thought my Titan would do well with some healing but then eventually decided it healed so ridiculously slowly it was completely and absolutely useless and eventually sold it. Then much later on they decided the Titan Repair Module needed a buff.
3. Without going into individual ones, I`ll just say all the ridiculously new OP bots and weapons that make you feel like it`s not even worth the effort of trying to fight against them and just about every single player is saying how ridiculous they are and is calling for them to be nerfed . After a long, long while and constantly struggling against them you eventually get some of your own, get them levelled, start having fun with them and then they just happen to decide they need to be nerfed.
4. And the latest and possibly most frustrating which I saw today with the new event. No more 250 Rust Rocket components with virtually each and every opening of the crates. In fact no more components at all. Great or what. But what the **** am I supposed to do now to get the last 500 components of the Laser weapon that has been the only ones worth saving up and not instantly selling the components as with all the ****** Rust Rockets components so as to try and eventually get one after months and ****** months.

A few thoughts: 1. I always hold onto at least 4 of each gear-type minus robots. That's 4 of each SE weapons, 4 of each normal equivalent, 4 of each module if they're a niche-type thing (like Titan Repair). For robots, I hold onto two of them if I like them a bit, one if I can't stand them. One of each Titan. I hold onto 2 pilots in addition to what I currently have plans to use; I've been burnt in the past by selling off pilots then getting an idea to try out another oddball build.
2. I generally avoid going hard after the newest ubergear for exactly the reason you mention in #3 of your OP. I've been burnt many times in the past over that. I tend to lean more toward gear that's been nerfed at least once to figure it "safe." Exceptions to that are if the ubergear is vastly improved over what I'm currently using such that even a mostly-nerfed version would still be an improvement or at least a new wrinkle (see: Evora vs Krait/Squall as an example).
Unfortunately, there are no easy solutions to unexpected Pixonic pivots of logic such as what you mention in #1 or #4. Waiting on components, SE availability, or things to show up in the Workshop are a grab bag. Sometimes, you just need to make a bad decision. Hell, I've started leveling a Claw and 2 Jaws for an Invader because I've received no SE versions of either. I want to try out the weapons and don't want to wait until I can get them at a cheap enough deal to justify the expense or to wait until I happen to win them.
Sometimes there is no good option so you get hosed.

They have recently introduced buying components at a "discount." It's no comfort, I know.

Poopface made great points. Being a niche player with all spiders, I still hold onto at least 4 of every wep and mod, both for bots and titans. Since I run only spiders I still keep at least one of every bot, and have every bot and titan. I always wait for a good nerf/buff cycle before investing heavily in any new weapon set. I know this may sound odd, but I maxed out modules first, then pilots, then bots and weapons together. I figure pilots and modules are more sound investments and give more life to whatever I run. Weps and bots are always coming down the pipe so unless something really grabs me, which doesnt happen unless a spider, I dont go in for it. I have had alot of players cuss me out and all due to my hangars, but if you think about all the stuff you win and dont use, its silver right? Well, take it a step further, in my case spiders. I sell so much other stuff it has afforded me the opportunity to max out a ton of them. just my 2 cents.

I levelled a titan repair module as well but it is completely overshadowed by the titan repair amp and other modules that give more than one benefit.
Gotta keep us on that hamster wheel changing and upgrading things.
When the drones first came out I started collecting lots of tier 1 microchips with the grand plan of converting them and saving resources. Then the Einstein's came along and first removed the good tier 1 chips like suppression and lockdown so I was left with piles of useless chips and then they removed chips altogether and we know how that went.
I still don't have any maxed out drones where I had multiples in the last incarnation.

Right when you think it is safe to commit, that’s when they make their move.
