In the leaderboard challenge winners prizes they keep awarding decay weapons to the top finishers. In two months I have accumulated 9 of them. I like them well enough but have only upgraded three of them for my bots. I have little experience with other weapons and just use what I get for free.
Does war robots ever change the weapons prizes? Why are they pushing decays and to a smaller extent the other radiation weapons like blight. Or should I just be happy because they might be that good?

Personally I don’t like them. I know of a lot of people that do, but the firing rate/sequence is inconvenient for the way I play.

Pixonic usually picks a slightly off-meta weapon group to hand out in droves in an attempt to say the game is budget-friendly. It was Hornet/Mangetar, then railguns, and now is the radiation guns.

They just haven't updated the leaderboards for a while. They radiation weapons are still good, especially for countering the laser weapons, because you can reach them easier. I like them, but don't run them anymore because there are better options.

I just can't make myself like them, especially if your game has any sort of lag you end up missing heaps of shots and they always seem to be on reload. I know the new lasers are easy mode but at least they alleviate the lag issue with the lock on and constant fire.

I've got a MK2 rad gun setup on my Fenrir that I like because it's good at slapping flying bots in the endgame, and I can also deliver good hits on Titans (slower and bigger, so it's easier to get the repeat hits that stack the damage).
On my Pursuer, I've got three of the light versions at 1.9 or 1.10, and they're definitely less useful, but I'm also running Otto as the pilot so at least there's more volume of fire. They've taken the place of Magnums on that bot for me; I could probably also run Magnetars, but Otto doesn't support those.

In my opinion they are solid weapons, I have a lot of options available to me and can say there is certainly drawbacks to Radioactive weapons, however if you are accurate with them the damage output can be impressive and 600m range is nothing to scoff at. Once I got used to their firing mechanics it became one of my favorite weapon systems, I run 2 mk3 on one of my Seraphs atm and it works incredibly well.

I run rads on my Fenrir and Tyr, my two core robots, love them. Yeah it can be hard to hit the tiny boxes, and reload means soaking up damage on occasion, but taking out a Seraph with rads is, well, rad.
