So, here's the thing:
I never played the black market gatcha game that much, because odds are pretty good that you'll get stuff you don't need. I'd spin through tons of silver crates and usually just end up with yet another Typhon or something. Or maybe a pilot I'd never use. All the time, I just ignored the bronze crates because, well, nothing in them was particularly shiny or interesting. But then I eventually ran out of green crack, and while considering buying some more, I noticed that usual little $1.99 for 8000 keys deal in the market. So, I shrugged and decided to see what I'd get for 8000 keys worth of bronze crates.
After mass-opening tons of the things, I finally realized the true power of the bronze crates: everything in them is useful. It's always silver, gold, a bit of platinum, power cells, and (perhaps best of all) more keys. As you keep winning keys, you keep opening more and more bronze crates, getting more and more basic resources and still more keys. On average (And after selling the inevitable Dreadnaught A24 parts you win), that $2 key purchase will end you up with several million silver, about 1500 gold, several hundred platinum , and several thousands of power cells. It's probably the best deal in the game for maintaining all your basic upgrade resources.
Anyone else playing it like this?

Yup, and enough players did the same so Pix had to go and nerf the Bronze box. Still the only one I bother opening.

Most times, yeah, bronze. I've occasionally gone for the silver recently just on a whim but like you said, everything in bronze is useful.
But I also say this as someone who capitalized on a couple of 44K key purchases last year and stocked up big-time on gold-chest weapons and modules. This was before the chests were changed up significantly, but it also helped me make a big leap in capability at the time.

They have suffered a nerf recently but still OK for resource collection. Shh don't tell them this.
Save the keys for 50% progress bar "events" and you would probably get to open 2 X super chests with 8k keys as well.

They may have nerfed the Bronze chests, but since they absolutely slaughtered the Silver chest the Bronze chest remains the best option. The Gold chest is just too expensive for what it offers (usually just something you sell).

I once spent 1000 keys on the bronze chest, didn't get a single piece of platinum. Never opened it since. Gold chest is the best for me, I can win older SE weapons I don't have yet, and get superchests as well.

And as a FTP that’s kinda a big deal
