If you have a PC or console, here's a new game from Pixonic. Feels very much like War Robots, a lot concepts recycled from War Robots (weapons, robots, pilots and etc) but much better graphics and more dynamic. Imagine fury and titans being able to jump and dash. What's new and interesting is that rather than getting entire bot, you buy parts, such as chassis, torso and arms. So you can have franken-bots such as one with fury legs, phantom torso and bulgasari arms, for example. Torso gives you an ability and possible weapon mounting point, arms have weapon mounting points and legs will determine your weight limit. So you can experiment and customize your bot to your playing style. No doubt it will be p2w, but right now the game is pretty easy to advance in and reminds somewhat of early days of War Robots, where you can actually compete and win with punishers. On the down side, very few human players now so get ready to play a lot against AI bots. Which is both good and bad, you can easily earn the resources and advance in levels but game can get tedious at times. Only one map for now. And if you are considering it, wait until Pixonic releases patch, a lot of players complaining about not being able to join the game. (I myself got locked out for 2-3 days during holidays) Not free, on PC you need to shell out at least ~15$ but playing close to 90 hours now I'd say it was worth it.

Here's my "frankenbot" build, typhoon shoulders, phantom torso and griffin chassis. The idea there was this creation allows you to have 5 punishers (light weapons, game has only light and heavy weapons). And I needed griffin chassis because it would support the weight, but as downside the bot is fairly slow.

easystrider : Thanks for the intel, sincerely BUT I don't think there's a single veteran forum member here that trusts Pix AT ALL to keep it low cost.

easystrider : Thanks for the intel, sincerely BUT I don't think there's a single veteran forum member here that trusts Pix AT ALL to keep it low cost. Yup, no doubt. I'm also convinced it's going to have similar business model as War Robots, because this is what Pixonic does and it has paid off for them. One thing I'm not sure about is if it's going to work translating this model to PC and consoles, there's already some pushback. On the steam WRF forum they already got some "hate" posts by disgruntled former War Robots players. That's also why despite this game having only one map and still being buggy I have close to 100 hours playing it already. Just enjoying the early days where the game reminds of the best days of War Robots. Where 15$ and little bit of play time can get you a hangar where everybody can compete on pretty even basis. Pixonic is already adding new content like crazy, they just recently added griffin bot, halo and other weapons. They are not balanced properly and kind of useless for now, but that's way better than adding OP content. I figure Pixonic, as much as they want to, cannot revert to their business as usual of OP content and nerfs while the game has so few payers (as of now there's about 12-20 playing, with 60 all time peak). I'll be happy to post any updates in case anybody is interested.

easystrider Sure go ahead and post updates, thanks! Keep them here in this thread so they don't get out of hand. :-) Meh, no risk of that. You see how it was, the game was around for over two months and nobody even posted about it here. It was mentioned in general discussion but didn't get any traction there either. Pixonic didn't even care to advertise their own new game. On second thought I guess there's no point of posting updates here, anybody interested can find us on steam forum or go to Pixo page directly. Regards, all.

15 bucks currently to get... but then watch them add in a monthly fee to get something, then create all sorts of bovine fecal matter to keep grabbing your cash....

Looks like my time with WRF has come to an end. The US server almost never has enough players for even 2x2 game but Pixonic has already added a squad play. So I got matched against 3 human players game after game today. Well, it was fun while it lasted, but time to move on to greener gaming pastures.

Looks like my time with WRF has come to an end. Sorry to hear that. I always approve of folks having cheap, mech-related fun!

Looks like my time with WRF has come to an end. Sorry to hear that. I always approve of folks having cheap, mech-related fun! I'm always on the lookout for that perfect mech-related fun. Pixonic has had the right formula, but monetization antics they pull manage to ruin it yet again. For me, the ideal would be what they had in WRF couple months ago, minus titans, with more maps (and of course minus Pixonic). There are other mech games on PC, but these are either turn based, single player or etc. Not bad, but a different thing.

Further notes on War Robots Frontiers, for those who are considering this game. First and foremost, the game is in early development and Pixonic has made it clear that once the game reaches release state everybody's progress will be reset. Moreover, they may also reset the progress while in early dev to, as they put it, test progression speed of players. You only get to keep whatever you paid for and got in special packs. To give you an idea, I purchased 15$ most basic pack and after playing for 160+ hours I have millions of in-game currencies, pretty much multiple components for each robot, all the weapons in numerous quantities and pretty much everything else you can buy/earn in the game. On reset, I'll lose everything but will get to keep 4 punishers. Second, you can already tell progressing will be pretty expensive. For example, after playing for 160+ hours, placing first or second in most games, scoring 4-8 million in damage in many games I managed to earn millions in in-game currency, which was barely enough to fully max out 1.5 bots in my hangar. Clearly this game will be scaled to folks who play it non-stop, so more casual player will have trouble keeping up. Third, I was naively hoping Pixonic would draw some lessons from War Robots and slow down adding new content in WRF. Quite the opposite happened, the game is still in early dev, has only two maps but already has Seraph in it. In War Robots it took 7 years to get there, in WRF it looks like less than 7 months. To their credit, there's a slightly better power balancing in WRF, but this is not finished product yet; it's quite possible they keep the power balance to not scare off players, once this thing goes live I'm sure they'll try to monitize hard. Lastly, the player population. All of the above might not have been so bad in a thriving, popular online game. But WRF consistently has like 20 active players, spread across 3 different regions. Maybe more will join, but for now it's an unmitigated disaster. TLDR; summary: 1. Right now you'll pay money to be an early release tester. 2. Once game goes live you lose your current progress. 3. Aggressive p2w will be also present in WRF, if not even more aggressive since Pixonic might try to "milk" smaller player population. On a positive note, before Pixonic managed to add some content from War Robots WRF was pretty fun to play, more or less balanced game. Which kind of reinforces my opinion that War Robots could be an amazing game again if they removed half of the garbage content they managed to add over the years. Over and out. Edit: Will give this game another look on release, see where things have settled. Until then, based on what they have done with the game so far, it's an easy pass.

Spring update is out, the game is slightly redesigned. As predicted and promised, everybody's progress is reset.

Any ideas when it releases to console if ever? I'll post that question on steam forums, they are pretty good about responding there. The did announce console versions in 2022, I hope they'll stick to that promise.

Any ideas when it releases to console if ever? This is the response I got: "We don't have any release dates to share at the moment. The console version is still in the works, and we will provide more information as soon as we can." My guess is they'll do all the design iterations of the PC version, release it there, and then take the lessons learned and release console versions.
