I've got a couple of standard pilots that I ran up to Colonel and have since replaced them with Legendary pilots (using mostly the same skills, just to T4 status vs. capped at T3). There's no chance I'd go back to using these standard pilots again, but before I cash them in for over 9M Ag each, what's the potential downside that I'm not thinking of? Bearing in mind I've got a rogue's gallery of LPs also going unused.

My personal position has always been to sell what I dont intend to use. This gives me silver for upgrades, and frees up my hangars of clutter. I have no interest in the hassle of scrolling thru a huge museum of content. I take time to carefully consider, then sell it all - mechs, weapons, paint jobs, pilots etc

I’d hold on to one or two for when you get a new bot that you just want to test out or run until you score the designated Legendary Pilot. High level skills are better than starting from scratch. The Skills that aren’t weapon specific would be the best to keep.

Here's my thoughts
Never for any reason sell a legendary pilot even if you have 7 more
I'm pretty sure I have legendaries in stuff like Cossacks
So never sell them
I also intend to get a specific pilot design so I can have a cool bio typhon build that all matches >w< although that's just me having adhd lol

Unless you can think of something that you would seriously consider using them for, not just “well I COULD do this, even though I probably won’t”, selling is the way to go. Normal pilots are for the budget players and nothing more.

Regular pilots are gone instantly.
I keep at least one Legendary always. I generally despise the current Meta and will not use the bots at at all (Khepri, Rev, Nuts, Seraphilis etc.) However, overtime my view can change and what was the despised Meta of the day can become of interest. Mender, though hated in the past, now sits in my hanger in all its green glory. By 2029 I may have interest in a Rev.
Keep the gold pilots.
