And just like that, our Stalkers were a little less so.
Have a good weekend, gentlemen.

I was keeping in general a "positive attitude" about new mechs and balance, but this one seems to be OP. At least that's my initial opinion

Depends on what the max EN capacity is. If it's 16, it's perfect. If it's 24, its powerful. If it's 32, it's OP.
I guess it's kinda like Stalker and BH ability but is only targeting one mech vs the Stalker and BH being able to apply it's extra damage on any mech. To me, that's still balanced, especially considering you can feasibly miss with the ability.

They’ve got very good footspeed and are just shy of an Ares HP when fully maxed. With their mark and shield piercing ability they’ll be a danger to tanks and good squad mates for team play. Pretty attractive attributes for a support mech. Aesthetically, Orion has a Mechwarrior vibe that appeals to me. Granted, my Stalker is only currently 16EN, but I could see why a new player might choose an Orion over the Stalker.

Hmm, ok something to think about I guess. Now that I've decided to get the Surge, all my resources will be focused on that and getting it maxed with the AT12 build. If the Orion is readily available by then, then I'll consider it. If not, I'll continue working on the Stalker.
What's the range of the Orion's Mark ability anyway? And do you have to have LOS to your target or can you mark from behind cover?

Scape211 and Mayer have some good vids that demonstrate its use. The mark does seem to curve some for shooting around obstacles. Like you, I’ve got other toys to upgrade. I think I’ll wait to get an Orion for less than ten bucks. They say that variety is the spice of life. If anything, it’ll be a bot to change it up a bit. If it rocks, I’ll take it to 24EN.

I understand (please someone correct me if I'm wrong) there is no distance limit for the mark to be applied in the first shot. After that, if the original target is killed, the mark is automatically transferred to any mech that is inside the described limit (30 m).
The fact that Orion doesn't have any kind of shield is what gives balance to the mech. You cannot just throw the guy at the middle of the map, because he will die soon. Doesn't seem to be a good option to use as a brawler, and that's why he's not an attacker. I need to say that at the beginning, I overestimated his HP. I believe many people just acquired Orion with the idea that they will be able to just sweep enemies from the map, and I don't think that's the case; unlees they have him maxed, in which case probably they were already doing that with other mechs. Orion is more like an strategic mech that can kill or help to kill strong (high HP) targets.
However, I still believe the ability is OP... it's just too much damage. For two things I believe this mech could be a game changer: 1) Snipers. You can now use an autotarget skill and after that pierce any mech with LA, specially with LA12. That could save a lot of valuable bullets when you're sniping. 2) Tanks. For me, this is the new tank destroyer. It's going to depend on how many Orions we see on the battlefield, but he could cause tanks to be less effective. Additionally, the other weapon besides LA that seems to be ideal for Orion is DL12. I could be wrong, but I'm expecting to see a change in some big whales/all maxed hangars from tanks to this guy.
The part I'm afraid, is that if the AI starts using Orions, this could push the game more at the defensive "peek-a-boo" strategy (that I personally do not enjoy). An Orion-sniper Zephyr (with LA and bot-aim) combo will be lethal. Rise of the support mechs...

Yea it seems like its range is whatever it wants to be, had someone firing over me and I was 100m+ from them... It does seem to be LOS, I did watch it hit the object in front of me a few times when they tried to mark me.
The thing is silly powerful, once people learn how to play it I could see it being a nightmare to deal with.

Fully upgraded, this build would be dishing out damage like crazy and any mech it doesn't outright destroy will be crippled by the time it gets to cover.

Is there some type of alert that let's you know you have been "Marked"?

Is there some type of alert that let's you know you have been "Marked"? Yes, a pretty dramatic red skull... and you will be slow (stasis effect) for 3 seconds after the mark is applied.
