This seems like the right thread for this. Mechwarrior 5 is in the works again. Early stages, but it looks interesting. I don't know how to add links, but it comes up on google.

www.mw5mercs.com/Coming 2018... -_- I have played MWO, even got a pro-level flight-stick for it last year. Now I just need about 2000% more free time. I've played more tabletop RPGs than I could possibly remember, much less count. I still fondly remember GlitterBoy Armor from GURPS, and MechWarrior CRPG game with the stadium you could blow up and kill hundreds of civilians in order to steal a crappy starter 'mech... good times To be on topic, BattleTech for PC was the first game that I ever defeated the copy-right protection on. We call it DRM now, but same functionality. So there was this page in the box with a grid of words on it. When the game fired up, it would ask you for a word from a specific grid section (A2, C5, etc). In spite of owning a legit copy, the dang thing was a PITA to use because the letters with printed with glossy black ink on a matte black background, forcing you to hold it at an angle to be able to read anything on it. So a friend and I used Norton Disk Editor for DOS, and looked at the raw code in the btech.exe (or whatever file name it was) and we found every single code word in the executable in plain text. So, we started editing all of them to show "「fluffernutter」 you" but about half way got really tired of typing that over and over so just changed the rest to a null value (meaning not "0", but empty). After doing that, the game would fire up, ask for the DRM code, we'd type "「fluffernutter」 you" and if that failed, then we would just hit enter. Worked like a charm

I'm pretty sure that, aside from computer games dating back to The Crescent Hawk's Inception, I haven't played tabletop since the 80's, which would include Mechwarrior. The only game that I've stuck with has been D&D since '79. I still have my Battletech box set and since you've brought it back up, I plan on taking it out to see what my kids think of it. I need to start a BT game here in Raleigh, NC.. anyone want to play? maybe... I'm in Carolina beach
