Got back into this game, after not gaming for 2 months.
Got my Longarm 8’s on it, and when they hit, do a good amount of damage. But, I suck at aiming. I mean hovering chrome off a trailer hitch sucking, my friends,
Question is: Would it be better to switch to something else (suggestions are welcome), or swap in a different unit, like my Panther (I know…I have a hard time working the fence and I feel stupid. More than normal, that is.)
As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated.
BTW: Gave up War Robots 2 months ago. Bendys broke me.

Ok, the Gauss Rifle is a sniper weapon specially designed for folks like you and me, who can't hit things without the auto aim assist that LA and RG don't have. The GR10 seems more worth it if you're in it for the long haul. If you just want to hit people from far out and want dual weapons right now, then go for the GR6. Not sure if they're widely available yet though.
I've seen the GR10 used on the Stalker with it's Predator Drive active to devastating effect and I'm actually seriously considering this to replace my Ares. Hopefully I can pair it with the Legendary Sniper Pilot too. For me, the biggest draw of this build is to be able to shoot while moving...something I can't do with LA and RG - though I'm starting to get a bit better with RG for this.
Welcome back to the game! The biggest changes are that this game is definitely moving in the P2W arena. The most P2W build right now is with the Arc Torrent weapons. When they first came out, they were meh due to their 30m range. But, if you max it, and get the pilot implant that extends it's range, it can go out to almost 60m...which is basically optimal range of CBs, but it's got way more DPS than CBs. I'm still hmm'ing and hawing on going down this road for myself. If the AT12 becomes available, I'll probably jump on the bandwagon.
Now, for Arachnos, its a good starter high EN mech but is super slow and not many people bother leveling it to 32EN.

Welcome back. I’m in a similar boat as you. Took some time off from the game this spring; now back. Casually, at least.
I’m no good at sniping. Even wasted resources on a railgun. KB is giving sage advice.
The only thing I’d add is that I’ve encountered some dangerous Arachnos armed with artillery lately.

Disc launchers might be a good replacement 🤔. Just get the wider damage implant. As to sucking at sniping with Longarms, try aiming ahead of the target, wait for it to walk onto your aiming reticle then fire. Boom, you got him. I learned to do this with RG and it serves me well. Killshot is a special case, just wait until after his dash to fire.

So I dusted off my Arachnos for a match after reading this post and tried it with LA8s. And it feels like the problem is the mech not the weapon. Arachnos seems like a terrible sniper platform. It's just too slow and bulky. It takes too long to get into position to get a good shot and then you can't quickly duck back into cover. Against enemy snipers you're just not going to get off many shots before you get wasted. And now that they're buffing Surge, Arachnos is going to be the weakest mech in the game.
I'd vote you put in the Panther instead. It's my favorite sniping mech and between the speed, the fence, and the wide weapon mounts, it isthe most forgiving to run. I'd just keep practicing with it til it feels natural. Just my opinion of course.

If you're F2P and not that steady at the controls like me, I would say Ares as the sniper. I actually liked it for a while back in the early days and used it with LA8 to good effect. The frontal shield provided good protection from counter snipers and the mech is faster than the Guardian but not as fast as Panther, so it was a good steady platform without being too "whippy". Jugg is ok too, but it's slow like the Arachnos.
TBH, with all the EMP mechs and DLs and ATs running around, tanks have limited use in brawls, so might as well engage at farther range.
