Every time I play tournament in the Grandmaster category (sometimes in master) with more than 3 hours of time to play, there is one player in my group that plays almost 3 hours continuously and gets something around 14,000 to 15,000 points during that time. That happens on day 5 or 6 of tournament. Is that normal? I have been trying entering the tournament at different times, but that seems to be an inevitable outcome. The presence of one player like that every single time makes me doubt of the randomness of the distribution, but besides that, I wonder if I should keep trying to find a different time of the day? I just have been trying to play in that level for a couple months now, but I want to know if that is expected

There's less time then to amass a huge lead. But you still might face clans of max mechs. I gave up on winning Grandmaster. Not worth the frustration. I got 1st place in Professional last night, and it was fun.

You can try joining 1h10m before the end of the heat, but I can tell you there are lotsa ppl who do this as well

Yes that's pretty normal.
I joined GM about an hour before the end yesterday and just managed to get third place, which is my highest placing ever in GM.
Usually I skip a day with the aim of playing Expert on day 4 and master on day 5, which are Saturday and Sunday for me. If I get lucky and have a low scoring group of players in the final heat, I can sometimes get fifth or sixth in GM on day 6.

Thank you for the comments and advice. I need to say that I was mostly surprised by how systematic was that behavior... but today didn't happen. I just found people grinding, but something that I considered more normal, not 400-500 points per battle each time. Anyway, thanks again, that was reassuring. I will try to get high scores in master and try the last day GM just randomly, looking for some luck!

Me, I try to stay in Novice all week for the free Fortune Keys and no grinding or stress. On the last day, if I have time, and if I notice no one in my list is gunning for 1st place, I might grind a bit and see if I can claim in.

At least until Division 3, when the competition got a bit tougher and I started competing against higher level pilots. Pretty sure it's by design. Given that, it makes some sense to hang out in a low division and farm tournaments for coins longer than I did. Now I play enough to get coins for vault rush. These days 35 a-coins earned in two weeks is enough unless you want the skin.

If I remember correctly, you get very little Tournament tickets in the beginning and get more as you advance. So, if you want to grind the TDM early on, you may have to buy tickets. So, they get you that way.
