I finally took a look at the Tengu details. I'd avoided doing so up to now to avoid feeling new gear envy. I'd only seen it in the wild a few times, usually in high SP hangars. It looked cool but I didn't feel the need to replace any of my existing mechs.
So, jump stealth with damage on landing PLUS stasis. Hmm...no wonder people are paying for it. TBH, the few I've seen usually die right after they land anyway, or after they land and kill me. They often try to tackle more than they can chew. But, I can see with Pilots, it can be a beast.

The Stasis and stealth make it the combination of inquisitor and Mercury. It's forward/up movement is faster and more diagonal than Lancer, so Lancer is still the only mech that can get to stupid high places. It's a nightmare to fight against if theres only 1 player on each side, because like panther's fence and grounded AI lancers, the AI can't acknowledge how it's ability works and makes it a high priority because it's a light mech.

It would be nice to know the blast radius but it isn't listed in the bots stats. Jump damage aside, the other abilities don't seem to do much to stop immediate retribution. Jump and get popped faster than a balloon landing on a cactus.

What's the max EN? Is it 16 like the other light mechs? What's the max HP? I just picked up the 2 star Tengu deal today. I have no immediate plans to use it, but will let it upgrade naturally like my Stalker and only take it out when it's R5 or so.

Haven't picked it up yet, but I might get it, and put it up on blocks until prints start coming in. The regular deal for a 3-Star Tengu is $6.99. The upgrade cost from 2 to 3 stars is 750 A-Coins, 64,250 Credits and 18 bps. So the extra $3 comes in at 250AC per dollar which is solid (plus the bps). I think it's pretty either/or as 750 AC isn't that all that much and as a rare mech, Tengu bps should be a pretty common draw from the crates, but personally I'd prefer the $6.99 deal over this one. I probably should put it on my list to buy too just to start getting the bps. It'll be quite a while before I could upgrade it but it has bumped out the Cheetah as my next mech to get.

I took the Tengu out on a couple of custom matches where I filled both teams with bots. It is WEIRD! Like, it doesn't really move like other mechs. More like a bird. The jump is more of a dash/hob and doesn't have much range. IDK, right now, it's just gonna sit in my inventory and I'll throw credits at it when I have them to spare or when I need to complete a "spend x credits" task.

oK reality check on my earlier post - there has been a 3- Star Tengu for $6.99 deal, hasn't there? I thought I've seen it at least twice but someone was telling me they have never seen it. Now I am wondering if I have confused it with a deal for Stalker instead. Did I make a mistake??

I don't remember seeing a 3 star deal. This deal today was the first Tengu deal I've seen for low dollars. I don't remember exactly how much it was.

Hi!! I'm new here. Playing almost 6 months now. Just want to add that I was offered today a 3 star Tengu for 10.99... not sure if I will take it, apparently is only effective when is maxed

Well I went and got the 2-Star version. Upside is that I could then earn the 300 A-Coins from the Specialization Spree. I am so used to disregarding the Sprees because I lack the gear, but for only $3.99 to get the chance to earn some extra AC plus a good mech, that seems like a pretty good value. Finishing the 6 MVP task at only level 2.1 was the bigger pain than getting 30 wins, but I managed to get it all done. I wonder how many Sprees they'll offer for this mech - I mean they don't offer them for Cheetah anymore right? (or at least I don't think so, but I don't own a Cheetah so I haven't been paying attention). Feels like there is a shelf life on this and then the Sprees move on to the latest gear. Koalabear, you're right it does move weird. I wish it jumped more like a Mercury with some real hang time instead of that abrupt hop & drop. Also can't figure out what its impact radius is yet. And it'd be nice if it showed you how long you were in stealth instead of having to count to four in your head (does the 4 seconds start when you begin the jump or when you land?). Has potential though - feels like a high skill mech to run. I think it'll be pretty fun when I finally can get around to levelling it up.

I don't think an extra $7 is worth it just for the 750 A-Coins, 64,250 Credits and 18 bps difference between 2 and 3 stars. It's a shame they aren't offering you the $3.99 deal - I thought that was a universal offer to all players but I guess not. That sucks.

They're still doing the whole secret test group thing. The 2 star one was $7, the 3 star one was $11 for Tengu at the start of the specialization spree.

TBH still on the fence with Tengu, I like to be at the heart of the battle (my favorite is killshot with MR) and Tengu seems to be a good mech for that, but I'm already mid/late game and I have another priorities right now. Also light mechs are too expensive to upgrade. It's a little bit annoying that they are making different offers to each player. The other day I saw in plarium's forum someone complaining that in one account got and offer for 400 A coins for $2 (I've never seen that) and in the other 1500 A coins for $4 (definitely never had that one!!!). The best I've had is 1,200 for $7 =(

I've definitely seen some video of folks rocking the Tengu but I think for endgame it will be a middling mech. As far as light mechs go, I would max out a Shadow before dealing with the Tengu. That's my plan at least.

OK so the downside of buying the Tengu just became apparent. A new mech means their new skins completely janxed up the odds on the Fortune Crates. I spun 15 of the 10-key crates and I didn't win A-Coins a single time!!! I figured I'd get 1-2k in AC. Getting a few 300AC Specialization Sprees doesn't really balance that out, grrrr.

I'm enjoying Tengu. I've gotten a few multi kills here and there at 3 stars, with Pilot help.. Just one MR8 on it, well levelled. And it's pretty speedy. Kind of squishy but I use cover and try to keep out of sight of that red-eye. At higher level it shows good promise, especially in cpc on control points.

Been messing around with it alot the past few days.
Stealth during the jump doesn't help unless your victim is using weapons that require a target lock to fire. More often than not, because of it's limited effect radius, (20 meters is my best guess) you'll get locked down or destroyed mid jump by direct fire or get caught in a missiles blast radius. This is especially true against AI.
Stasis doesn't help much unless you land behind the target. I have managed to use the ability more than once on the same target, but don't count on it. An ability duration implant comes in handy here. Haven't seen an implant to increase the effect range... yet. That would be nice.
Managed to jump up onto a small ledge, but I noticed that the ability didn't activate when I landed. Not sure if it was because it didn't actually finish a complete jump, if that makes sense.
All in all, it can be a fun bot with stand off weapons, but it dies pretty quick in a close range fight. Okay, I lied, it dies if the enemy looks at you funny.
Individual bot tasks... Weapon Typist. Mysterious weapon yet to come? Could be it launches exploding typewriters or keyboards. I'll keep you posted. 😉

This ^^ I got killed in a custom game where I filled the teams with bots and my Tengu died 10s in. Haha, of course, it was base at 2 stars and I was just messing around, but I sure don't miss those early days when mechs died from a loud sneeze!

I don't think I ever will be able to finish the purple skins, there are millions...

Usually those don't go into the FC until after their special event ends. Not sure the Ukrainian ones will ever go in either, since they are currently 1 Credit each. But yes, as you clear skins, your odds of winning the other prizes increase. With the other skins, normally the odds of winning any of new skins (where they release a copy for each mech) is very low. So for skins like Fright Light, Sunrise, Slimescale, Circuitry or Wintersong, my current odds are 0.29% per mech skin (you can see the odds of winning each prize by clicking on the info icon at the top of the pop-up screen for the different 5/10/20 key crates). My odds for Credits and to a lesser extent A-Coins are a lot higher. But when you get a new mech, then some of the older skins (like Green Floral, Artic Camo, Pink Bling, etc) get added to the crates and they get added in at a much higher percentage. For me I think it was well over 5% per skin. The A-Coins are at a similar percentage, so they got crowded out by those skins and I didn't win any AC.

By blue I meant rare skins, sorry I wasn't clear, they have a blue background and that's why I call them blue. I read about that before and I bought some of the rare skins that you can buy with credits, but the only percentage that changed was for the other rare skins; the percentage for A coins and credits remained the same. I guess only when you totally clean the old or rare skins is when the odds for coins are modified.

It's been a while since I had to deal with the rare skins and you're right, there are so many purple/epic ones I don't even pay attention anymore. I actually forgot that skins actually came in rare, epic, etc classes. If I remember correctly, then the odds outside a class of skins don't change until you clear all of them out. I am pretty sure that's how it works. That would explain why I kept winning the rare Tengu skins because the odds on each kept going up. I had forgotten too that you can buy rare skins for Credits. Is that all rare skins or only just some of them do you know? I should keep that in mind for when I get my next mech. I'll probably win enough credits from the crates to make up the expense. I swear I learned all thus the hard way when they gave away the Arachnos and then I just totally forgot in the interim. Probably end up forgetting again on the next mech, oy...

Don't buy the skins...they're really not worth it...unless your aim is to knock those skins out of the Fortune crates, then just buy the blue ones for credits not A-coins. Credits flow pretty quickly, but A-coins take forever to accumulate naturally without spending money.

So... I didn't get Tengu last time, and a new offer just appeared. People that already have it, were you able to use it? Or he's just there collecting blueprints? I'm asking because I'm still under the impression that he is only really good when maxed, and I'm not sure maxing many mechs is a real option in the near future... at least not for me, there are others with higher priority at this point.

Mine is collecting dust...er...blueprints. From what I've see so far of it in action, it's not a direct confrontation mech. It will melt against almost any other mech in a 1:1 confrontation. You have to play it smart and use it's ability more for getting close and disappearing off radar than as an actual weapon. When using it for combat, it's more of a coup de grace weapon than a brawling weapon.

I like the mechanic of the jump and kill. Mine is 4 stars and it's okay. I've used it in cpc in place of killshot, though there's no comparison. It gets uncontested cps. I think at 5 and 6 star it will be more durable. It's fun and thats what counts. I have gotten some multiple kills with its jump and that is fun. That should increase as it levels. Not the best mech in the game but I Iike it. Edit: I plan to put two Jav6s on Tengu eventually. That should make it more deadly.

Thank you for your answers. I was convinced by reconnecting, at the end "fun" is still what I'm aiming for. I will get it, and give some time to collect blueprints, at least until I can upgrade it to hold dual 6 EN weapons. I'm not sure when that will happen, considering also the 6250 A-coins that are needed for the upgrades. Anyway, in the meantime, I can focus on other mechs that are closer to be ready.
