MA: Mech Arena is No Longer Fun

You’re singing my song, brother. And pilots weren’t even out yet when I got fed up.

I agree. I usually have two or three beatdowns when I solo play but when I squad with friends, matches get ridiculous.  

MA was better before global. There were some seriously fun matches that were tense and could have gone either way and kept me playing more. Now, too many matches are predetermined or made to lose. 

If Plarium knew that they would release Pilots the way they did I don’t understand why they’d increase the bot ENs as much as they did. Combine both factors and you’ve got too large an imbalance. Sorry, I’m not getting on the hamster wheel again or paying to participate in a arms race. Been there, done that. 

While I’m venting, the superiority of mortars is maddening too. Playing some matches against full human squads spamming mortar shells is beyond frustrating. There’s no fun in not being able to do anything.  Railgun too.

I’ll gladly fork over ten to twenty bucks a month to a game I’m enjoying. I happily forked over cash to MA during its development, but I’m really feeling less inclined to spend now. I’m not interested in the meta that the bot EN-increase thrust on the game and I don’t trust that spending on pilots to increase the effectiveness of the skills-builds and such that I enjoy will increase the fun. 

I haven't upgraded my pilots or implants much so my SP has stayed the same pretty much. I'm sticking to my guns...gonna focus on my mechs first and get them to max before I spend any significant resources on the new stuff. I even leave games where I can see I'm outmatched or if there is a clan squad on the other side and I'm like the sole human on mine.

If you're going to use pilots passively, just keep spare implants of the identical type if you intend to change from a blue pilot to a purple pilot, or a purple one for a gold one.
Don't socket specialty mods. Save the mod rarity for at least that rarity of pilot. Since you will have the blue ones for awhile, just slap them on with the basic damage+ reload/range/splash for whatever weapon set you intend to use with a pilot weapon type.
Since Implants are reset to level 1 when removed, keep duplicates handy, and save high rank implants for high rank pilots.
The first few levels are cheap, and upgrading the ranks of blue pilots is significantly cheaper than the purple/gold pilots. Pilot level ups only start to take more than 10 games after rank 4, where they get their first weapon bonus. I would say only rank up blues after this point if you're going to have that weapon type in your hangar for more than one mech. For instance, I have Jester and G-lock. G-lock has Arc torrent mods(always useful into end game), Jester has Shotgun Mods. My flex spot is usually filled by shotgun shadow, with Arcs on the Ares.

If you do rank blue pilots past 4 stars, remember that they keep it forever, and that they're still overall cheaper, at about the same rate as their bonuses compared to other rarities.

Can even see the effect of pilots in the FB groups,before pilots players asked question and offered advice and overall were decent places to read.

Now the line is drawn in the sand between those who like pilots and those that dont,and it's getting nasty with outright hatred getting thrown about and the usual git gud and grow some balls blah blah,I don't play the game but I stayed in the groups to monitor the games progress in case the game improved.

What I have read lately tells me I'm right to be out of the game,but there is some entertainment value in reading these cat fights for sure.

There’s a population in there that thinks because they like everything about the game, then everybody should. And if you don’t like it and then complain about it, you’re just a wuss who doesn’t like the challenge. Funny how every one of them I’d seen in game had maxed or near-maxed hangars, which they’ll tell you got entirely through grinding, but then you find out that’s not exactly true - most of them dumped real cash into it at some point, and not just a few $$$ here and there. And every one of them has some kind of mental disorder. Seriously, they’ve all got this macho tough guy complex, which did absolutely nothing to rekindle any hint of interest in continuing to play.They weren’t in the majority by any stretch, but boy they could hate-bomb and take over any thread in there in no time. Talk about your toxic player base.

Im starting to see a trend in my breaks and lunches at work. There are prime play time for me. I usually play I still like playing, but i spent some of that time Cubing, and watching Oak Island and rewatching an episode of BoBF lately. I'm going to bed with daily's not complete.

Not when it takes 5 games to get your first win. 

Lately my WL ratio is probably better in cpc than 2v2. I have been running into more humans in 2v2, probably trying to earn Battlethon death match awards. 

  This was a 2v2 earlier today. My current SP is about 2900.














Max hangar.  How much does all that cost? 

I don’t know, but this kind of player is exactly why game developers do and will continue to do what they do. Apparently there’s a lot more to be made from a handful of these in a very short time with relatively little effort than from thousands of nickel-and-dimers.
