THE OGRE REPORT
Sept 19, 2021 (War Robots version 7.3.1)
Mothership Clarifications
The purpose here is to answer some questions about specific mechanics of the orbital support that may not be evident.
THE ORBITAL SUPPORT METER
- Charged by damage dealt and beacons captured.
- Merely turning a beacon white (“liberating”) also contributes
- How quickly it charges is also proportional to the number of allies on the beacon, and the percentages of their mothership Charge Speed Modifier (CSM). Multiple maxed CSM results in a full meter instantly, and is why strikes can sometimes occur within the first 15s of a match
- Inactivity produces no charge
ORBITAL SUPPORT: Attack
- There are two stages:
1) the Target Ray Cannon turret marks the strike zone and deals a small degree of damage to any enemy in it, and
2) the Orbital Strike itself that deals significant damage
- Target Ray Cannon can only strike to 800m, while the second stage Orbital Strike reaches maximum range. If the target acquired by radar is beyond 800m, TRC will not produce the first stage strike, but the second stage OS will activate.
The following do not prevent a hit:
- Ancile
- Aegis
- Absorber
- DR
- Repulse
- Reflektor
- Stealth (more info below)
- Flight
- Overhead cover
The following do prevent a hit or reduce damage taken:
- High durability and healing/resistance enhancements
- Phase Exile
- Phase Shift
- Last Stand
- Transcendence
- Dashing or walking out of zone
- Jumping out of zone
- Teleporting out of zone
STEALTH vs OS
- If a stealth mech is in the strike zone, it will take damage
- A stealthed mech cannot be targeted by OS unless counter-stealth modules are in use
- If a stealth mech is targeted by the OS prior to going stealth and it goes stealth, if it is in the strike zone it will take damage
ORBITAL SUPPORT: Protection
With respect to Aegis, while this only applies to your mech, it should be noted that if you are in front of an ally your Aegis will block direct frontal assaults from hitting them
FINAL REMARKS
There are some adjustments that would contribute to a better combat experience with OS, such as using different colors to distinguish enemy from ally OS, and to give a player temporary post-strike immunity as we have with things like suppression or lockdown, in order to prevent multiple quick-strikes against the same target.
Thanks for reading. I hope you found it helpful.
