So in light of all of the changes, I did what I do and decided to relive the punishment, as well as see what the "new" offers were for scrubs. I was pleasantly surprised. When we all first started, getting MR8 was a steal for $20. Since I've basically played for a year without dropping much cash, I decided to actually spend money this go round on what I considered cost effective. A beginner's guide is coming. As is the case with games like this, getting the most out of what is put in, money wise, should be a part of that. So far I haven't bought anything over $10, but they're actually tempting me to bite with the offer pictured. There is no hiding that the changes to second copies and EN limits were to raise the ceiling, BUT, they also lowered the petty cash bar at the floor. Something none of us would really see or know about from on high.   |

I've seen some hella complaints from non-spenders about that offer.
I think it's great, it's just the MM that needs tweaking. Ah well...

Wow, that's an amazing offer, and one that I might take if I had to do it all over again and saw it. Those complaining should know that dual CB8 Zephyr doesn't last long in the higher divisions but in the lower divisions, it should be killer.

As 「dookie」 of a thing it is to say, people that don't spend ANYTHING don't really have a leg to stand on. I gripe in comparison to how much cash I've dropped, which isn't much in the grand scheme of things. Even then, most of my remarks stick to fair criticisms and by the numbers tweaks that are neither here nor there in terms of overall game balance. $25 for something that would take literally 3-5 months to grind out is what it is. Between the Zephyr offer, the MR8 Guardian offer for $10, and the Pulse 6 Ares for 3$(hasn't popped up yet, but I've seen them, so it's still around), there are plenty of reasonable beginner bundles worth their price point. All of the other three star weapons (Pulse8, Mortars, Javs) pop up for $3 a pop. People that want to play completely free and grind like it's a job, eventually have to learn that they will NEVER be the priority playerbase for games like these. Unlike War Robots, until mid/late game(late R4+), there are PLENTY of decent offers for pocket change to play players. The majority of AI cap out at high R4, except in the rare instances of grinding tournament so much that the AI just straight up throws R5s at you. And that only happens near the end of the EXP track. Pocket change easily chumps people up to the level where they can handle the majority of what they're going to face. Whales be whales, but that is what it is. |

R5 weapons turn every R3 and below mech into tissue paper. With enough gripes, I could totally see it getting switched to Pulse 8's and brought down to like $20. Later on, Zep with no weapons goes for $20 when it's specialization event pops up. Considering 375k credits is about $40 worth of A-coins, the discounted price definitely makes it worthwhile, the same way most of us picked up MR8 for that price point almost a year ago. Carb8 Zep doesn't transfer well, but stick AT10 on it at R5, or wait till R6 and supplement the carb 8 with carb 12, and there ya go. The beginner guide will also have a priority list of mechs and weapons. After my last run, with the EN changes, Carb 12 and Railgun are basically: Literally don't spend coins on anything else until one has them. |

I know this can be controversial, but as long as the game stays in the state that it is currently in... Rocket Mortar 12s should be considered, if not the same priority, at least very highly regarded in terms of end-game hangars, along with RG 16 and CB 12s. They can absolutely turn a battle and I have more trouble dealing with them than Carb 12s when in the hands of a real player. On many maps, even having just one RM 12 can make the difference between a stalemate situation and a win. I can understand not liking them... but with how many I see used and how thoroughly a good team with multiple RM mechs can trounce a team of randos and AIs, they have to be considered when deciding what to spend resources on.
*Before it's said, even with knowing how to deal with them, which I do, a good team with multiple RM players will protect them and use them wisely. Especially in TDM, this can be very hard to deal with. Embracing the dark side is distasteful, but worth considering if one is trying to win.

I've been working a lot. There's a sweet spot between cash dropped, what to buy, when to buy it, and the ideal focuses from phase to phase of progressing through the game.
Simply put,
Phase 1 is getting a 3-4 mech hangar to R4 that can and will hang through the entire first year of play.(week 1-6)
Phase 2 is obtaining and copying the heavy hitting weapons.(week 6 to 1 year(yea...))
Phase 3 is end game, where everything will slow down to a snail's pace. It's the only time expanding side projects makes sense.

By that definition, I'm probably just finishing Phase 1 and starting Phase 2. Here's a rough order of the major items I acquired on the way: Juggernaut Panther RPG 6 Killshot Guardian MR8 Jav 6 Long Arm 8 PC8 Getting bots to R4 / Weapons to R3 Long Arm 10 Stasis Beam 16 Next targets: Zephyr Carbine 12 Railgun (long wait) Bots to R5 while saving for Railgun With no light mechs in your hangar, investing too heavily in weapons that use 6 EN and less is a waste. R5 and 6 are heavy on coin costs, so 4.7 is more than adequate until Railgun and Carb 12 are actually in your pocket. Getting 3 mechs to R5 is pretty much the same price point as buying either one of those weapons in terms of coin costs, and it's easier to get more coins in smaller batches for each mech with those weapons in hand than having high level mechs without that level of damage at your disposal. |
